[009] - Dabo 0.4
by Ed Leafe (http://freshmeat.net/users/edleafe/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 11:24
About: Dabo is a three-tier, cross-platform database application
development framework, written in Python with the wxPython GUI toolkit.
The controls in Dabo's UI are easily bound to data by setting two
properties. The business object is designed to afford you complete control
over the validation and handling of your data. The cursor classes are
abstracted from their backend implementations, allowing for easy support
of nearly any backend database. Dabo's design and approach has been
inspired by RAD database development tools such as Visual FoxPro, Delphi,
and Visual Basic.
Changes: The dGrid class has been rewritten to allow you to work directly
with Column and Header objects. It also has several new convenience
methods, such as 'buildFromDataSet()', which allows you to pass it a set
of data and have the grid construct itself to properly display that data.
There are now several visual variations of the pageframe object that use
tabs, lists, or drop-downs to select pages, as well as a tabless version.
Many of the dialogs to interact with the user have been simplified. There
are many bugfixes and code tweaks.

About: DB Visual Architect for Eclipse (DBVA-EC) is a full-featured
Object Relational Mapping (ORM) plugin for Eclipse that provides
round-trip code engineering support with Java. The tool acts as a bridge
between object model, data model, and relational model by automating the
mapping between relational rows in a database and object models which can
be manipulated by a Java program.
Changes: Creation of non-existing columns was fixed for reverse Oracle
databases. A progress bar hang at 100% when opening a project by
double-clicking in the file manager was fixed. A VP-UML IDE Integration
problem on NetBeans 4.1ea2 was fixed. Some zooming problems in sequence
diagrams were fixed. An attribute/operation sorting problem was fixed. UML
2.0 sequence diagrams are now supported in ad hoc report generation. The
containment behavior of combined fragments was enhanced.

[011] - delsafe 0.0.68
by psds (http://freshmeat.net/users/psdasilva/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 22:31
About: delsafe is a set of utilities to hopefully allow you to recover
recently deleted files. Basically, when you delete or in certain cases
overwrite a file the original file is moved into a trash can. It does this
by overriding the original unlink, rename, open, and fopen library calls
using the Linux LD_PRELOAD mechanism. Trash cans are placed on top of each
mount point and are accessible by each user directly or through links
placed in the user's home directory. This makes deletion very fast
because, in fact, it is only a renaming. To each filename in the trash can
is appended a time/version stamp.
Changes: LD_PRELOAD is now set to /lib/libdelsafe.so instead of
libdelsafe.so. In some distributions, libdelsafe.so is not found unless
the full pathname is specified. delsafe_clean has small enhancements.

About: DrScheme is a graphical environment for developing programs using
the Scheme, MzScheme, and MrEd programming languages. DrScheme runs under
Windows 95/98/NT, MacOS, and Unix/X. DrScheme's features include source
text highlighting of syntax and run-time errors, support for multiple
levels of Scheme from beginner to advanced, an algebraic stepper for the
beginner language, interactive and graphical static analysis, a graphical
user interface (GUI) library, objects, threads, modules, exceptions,
TCP/IP, regular expressions, and filesystem support.
Changes: A new "Debug" button that provides debugging support was added.
Users can pause programs, inspect local variables, set pause points, step
expressions, and change evaluation results. This uses MzTake, the scripted
debugger. MzScheme now supports reader extensions and readtables to
customize the reader, and customized structure printing. The draw.ss
teachpack has a new interface, which is documented in doc.txt and the
revised HtDCH. A new "Java+dynamic" ProfessorJ language improves
interoperability between Scheme and Java. FrTime was refined with
important bugfixes and performance enhancements.

Internet
System
About: L7-filter is a Netfilter match module which classifies packets
based on application layer (OSI layer 7) data. This means that it is able
to classify packets as HTTP, FTP, Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc., regardless of
ports. It complements existing matches that classify based on port
numbers, packet length, TOS bits, and so on. Combined with Linux QoS, it
allows for full layer 7 packet shaping.
Changes: A pattern for Napster that matches OpenNAP was added. This
pattern matches both client-server (search) and client-client (download)
connections.

About: LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning
content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared
content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional
boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It
has strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class
using wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a
one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students
portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to
projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous
student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well
with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole
network of servers at participating institutions.
Changes: This is the third release candidate for version 2.0 of LON-CAPA.
In addition to bugfixes for printing, it adds SuSE 9.2 and RedHat
Enterprise to the list of Linux distributions which are supported "out of

Tue, Aug 9th 2005 22:38
Communications :: File Sharing
Communications :: File Sharing :: Direct Connect
Communications :: File Sharing :: Napster
About: MLdonkey is a multi-platform, multi-network peer-to-peer client. It
supports several large networks such as eDonkey, Overnet, Bittorrent,
Gnutella (Bearshare, Limewire, etc.), Gnutella2 (Shareaza), Fasttrack
(Kazaa, Imesh, Grobster), Soulseek, Direct-Connect, and Opennap. Networks
can be enabled or disabled. Searches are performed in parallel on all
enabled networks. For some networks, each file can be downloaded from
multiple clients concurrently.
Changes: IP block lists in bz2/gz/zip format are now directly supported.
The program no longer connects to IP blocked EDK servers. C code for
accessing HDD usage data was added. Per client statistics, multitracker
support for downloading, and the ability to parse more fields from
torrent files and show them in the HTML interface were implemented for
Bittorrent. For Fasttrack, all finished files are committed, files hashes
are not verified yet, and bootstrapping Fasttrack nodes should be more
reliable. A new structure of ./configure options was created for building
the GUI, which is disabled by default. MLDonkey now creates its data in
$HOME/.mldonkey for new users.

[042] - msort 8.5
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 23:20
Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities
About: Msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. Records
need not be single lines. Key fields may be selected either by position or
by tag. For each key, distinct sets of exclusions, multigraphs, and a sort
order may be defined. Comparisons may be lexicographic, numeric, by string
length, date, or time. Optional keys are supported. Msort uses the Unicode
character set and provides full Unicode case-folding. The basic program has
a somewhat complex command line interface, but it may be driven by an
optional GUI.
Changes: A third method of key selection has been added: it is now
possible to specify a range of characters as a key. Each key may now have
a set of regular expression substitutions associated with it. This allows
such things as making names beginning with "Mc" sort as if they began with
"Mac". There are also some minor improvements and bugfixes.

[062] - Rats! 1.7.0
by Robert Grimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgrimmm/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 07:42
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Rats! is a parser generator for C-like languages (currently only
Java). It has been designed so that grammars are concise and easily
extensible. To that end, it relies on ordered choices to avoid
ambiguities, supports syntactic predicates for unlimited lookahead, and
integrates lexing with parsing. It also has extensive support for
automatically generating abstract syntax trees, thus greatly reducing the
need for explicit semantic actions.
Changes: This release adds a simple yet powerful module system. Support
for building and printing abstract syntax trees was added to the Java
driver. Several bugs in the C parser and pretty printer were fixed.

About: Ravenous is full-featured Web server written in Java. It allows you
to write dynamic pages in Java without the need to read stacks of books
before you get started, while still providing the features needed to
create complex, high performance sites once you get more development
experience.
Changes: This release fixes a few more Windows-related bugs and adds a
native Windows installer and service script.

[064] - rlwrap 0.23
by Hans Lub (http://freshmeat.net/users/hlub/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 05:21
Terminals
About: rlwrap is a readline wrapper, a small utility that uses the GNU
readline library to allow the editing of keyboard input for any other
command. It maintains a separate input history for each command, and can
TAB-expand words using all previously seen words and/or a user-specified
file.
Changes: Completion word lists are now kept in red-black trees,
dramatically speeding up startup with large completion lists. rlwrap
copies terminal settings from the client, so wrapping programs that
manipulate their terminal (like emacs and vim) should be transparent.

Desktop Environment :: File Managers
About: ROX-Filer is a fast and powerful graphical file manager. It has
full drag-and-drop support and background file operations, and is highly
configurable. It can also act as a pinboard, allowing you to pin
frequently used files to the desktop background.
Changes: The MIME type system has been upgraded to fully use the
freedesktop.org system, including guessing file types from contents.
Options have been added for vertical icon arrangement and only showing
iconified windows for the current workspace. Panels can be moved to a
different screen edge from the GUI. Tab completion is case insensitive.
Video thumbnailing and MIME rule editing applications can be launched
directly from the options box. Estonian and Basque transation were added.
Many bugs were fixed.

[066] - rp-pppoe 3.6
by David F. Skoll (http://freshmeat.net/users/dskoll/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 23:19
System :: Networking
About: rp-pppoe is a PPPoE client and server suite for Linux, NetBSD,
Solaris, and Mac OS X Beta. It is fully RFC-compliant and supports
cookies, relay-IDs, and multiple simultaneous PPPoE discovery phases. It
is cleanly coded and fairly efficient, and supports kernel-mode PPPoE on
Linux 2.4.x.
Changes: The kernel-mode plugin works again; it was broken by changes to
the pppd program. A long-standing bug in the pppoe-server program (which
called pppd with arguments in the wrong order) has been fixed. All the
adsl-* scripts have been renamed to pppoe-* for consistency and to more
accurately describe their function. The kernel-mode plugin can use any
interface if you prefix the interface name with "nic-"; it's no longer
restricted to interfaces that start with "eth". The userland pppoe program
runs as "nobody" rather than "root" once the session has started.

[067] - rsyslog 0.9.6
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 08:05
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, and
fully configurable output formats (including great timestamps). It is
designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to
work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features
require changing the config file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: This release focussed on streamlining towards the first 1.0
stable release. The documentation has been greatly enhanced and changed to
HTML format. It now includes an installation howto. Samples of system
startup scripts have been added, hopefully facilitating deployment. The
capability to specify the UDP listening port has been added.

by Boris Kolpackov (http://freshmeat.net/users/bosk/)
Tue, Aug 9th 2005 08:15
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. It generates a
vocabulary-specific, statically-typed C++ mapping (also called binding)
from XML Schema definitions. The mapping consists of data types that
represent the given vocabulary, a set of parsing functions that convert
XML instance documents to a tree-like in-memory data structure, and a set
of serialization functions that convert the in-memory representation back
to XML. xsd features C++ standard library-based language mapping,
configurable base character type (char/wchar_t), support for all XML
Schema built-in types, custom Schema to C++ namespace mapping,
platform-independent generated code, and more.
Changes: Support for serialization of the in-memory representation back to
DOM and XML was added. A C++/Tree Mapping Serialization Guide which has an
in-depth treatment of the serialization mechanisms provided by xsd was
added. Examples were extended to showcase modification and serialization
of the in-memory representation.
