[009] - Clean Slate Smalltalk 0.3.5
by water (http://freshmeat.net/users/water451/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 00:14
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Slate is a prototype-based object-oriented programming language
based on Self, CLOS, and Smalltalk. Slate syntax is Smalltalk-80-based,
rather than trying to be clever and complex. However, the language
semantics, environment, and run-time design are all much more powerful
than in traditional Smalltalk systems. The design goal is to bring
together many excellent existing ideas into one system, and to provide an
environment where design decisions in one area don't constrain others.
Changes: This release adds single-process event-loop concurrency with
promises, a platform information/control plugin, online help for the REPL
and Debugger, use of an extended define: form to replace the
addPrototype:/addSlot: hassles, additional higher-order collection and
stream manipulation facilities, slot-observer pattern support, and support
for logical directory locations such as the home or current directory,
resolved dynamically on use.

[012] - DB Solo 1.2.5
by DB Solo (http://freshmeat.net/users/mhantula/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 08:46
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration
About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you to
explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc queries.
It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, Solid, and MS SQL Server. In
addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas, tables, indexes,
views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored procedures, you can
view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the results of queries.
You can also graphically view foreign key relationships.
Changes: Support for generic JDBC connections was added. You can now
connect to any JDBC-compliant data source by providing a JDBC driver for
the data source. To set up a generic connection, you have to point to the
jar file, pick the correct driver class, and enter the connection URL for
the data source.

Wed, Aug 10th 2005 03:14
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: DB_cart Class is a MySQL shopping cart script that can be used with
third party product catalogues and membership systems. The MySQL database
structure is neutral to existing systems. It can handle the shopping cart
(add, update, and empty) and checkout process (set the shipment address
and email the order). For existing cart users, the shopping cart is still
available upon the user's next visit and is visible by checkout.
Changes: Because there are problems with the Euro sign, the format_value()
method was modified a little, and the messages() and mail_order() methods
were also modified. The manual on how to use this class was created, with
explanations about how the files "db_cart_example.php" and

[030] - JSBSim Flight Dynamics Model 0.9.9
by Jon S. Berndt (http://freshmeat.net/users/jonsberndt/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 06:41
Education
Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
Scientific/Engineering
About: JSBSim is a multi-platform flight dynamics model. The FDM is
essentially the physics/math model that defines the movement of an
aircraft under the forces and moments applied to it using the various
control mechanisms and from the forces of nature. JSBSim has no native
graphics. It can be run by itself as a standalone program, taking input
from a script file and various aircraft configuration files, or it can be
run as an integrated part of a larger flight simulator implementation that
includes a visual system. The most notable usage example is the FlightGear
simulator. JSBSim models the aerodynamic forces and moments by the classic
coefficient buildup method.
Changes: A server capability was added, so JSBSim can be run remotely over
a socket. Additional flight control features were added.

by Andy Roberts (http://freshmeat.net/users/theroo/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 22:18
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: jTokeniser is a Java library for tokenising strings into a list of
tokens. A variety of possible tokenisers are available, including a very
basic whitespace tokeniser, a more flexible StringTokeniser, a couple of
regular expression tokenisers, and a tokeniser that utilises Java's
BreakIterator, which provides more complex, locale dependant tokenisation.
More recently, a tokeniser that add breaks text into its constituent
sentences. All are very simple to use.
Changes: This release added an option to allow the regular
expression-based tokenisers to keep the delimiters rather than simply
discarding them.

About: Juxy is a Java unit testing library for XSLT. It allows you to
write JUnit tests for XSLT stylesheets. You can easily setup
transformation context (parameters, variables, current node) and then
invoke the transformation. There are corresponding methods to call or to
apply individual templates and you can even pass parameters to these
templates, or apply templates in different modes. Result of the
transformation can be verified in a number of ways; you can evaluate an
XPath expression or you can perform canonical XML comparison. It works
with any XSLT processor that supports the TRaX API.

by KitiKat (http://freshmeat.net/users/kitikat/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 00:08
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Kitikat Java Framework is a powerful but simple Datastore
processing framework. A Datastore represents an in-memory copy of data. A
program may retrieve the data from a data source, such as a relational
database, manipulate the data, and then propagate the updates of the data
back to the original data source or to a different data source. Once the
data is retrieved, it is a disconnected, data source independent version
of the data. A change history of the data is maintained to provide dynamic
updates to a data source, and there are several levels of concurrency
control provided for multi-user environments.

About: Salonify is a Perl script which displays images that you have
organized in a directory hierarchy. The Web user can choose to see photos
as thumbnails or in small, medium, or full-size format; rotate the images;
modify the captions; move from folder to folder or image to image easily;
and customize the layout. The administrator can also take away any of
these abilities from the user if they want. By default, the captioning is
totally democratic (or wiki-like)--anyone visiting your site can change
the captions. You can also lock this down. Salonify generates nearly
w3c-compliant HTML (getting closer all the time) and renders quite well in
all tested browsers, including w3m-img, lynx, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape,
Internet Explorer, etc.. It uses JavaScript when available but does not
depend on it, and makes special allowances for bugs in certain browsers.
Changes: This release added the option for the index of photo albums to be
a nested collapsible list. It is now possible to edit descriptions of the
albums through the Web. Numerous backend functionality improvements were
made, such as the ability to move albums around in the directory structure
without losing metadata. Documentation and presentation were also improved.

[063] - SwingWeb 1.0.0-RC1
by thlee (http://freshmeat.net/users/thlee/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 22:16
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Swingweb is an implementation of the AWT toolkit that enables an
AWT/Swing application to operate inside a Web container and display as a
Web application to a Web browser, purely in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. No
code conversion is required for a Swing application to run in the SwingWeb
environment. SwingWeb allows a developer to use the Swing UI model for Web
application development, which should save development cost by merging the
development process of both a desktop application and a Web application.
Changes: This release includes features like JDK 1.5 support, a threadless
event queue, a share-app mode for scalability, session management, URL
manipulation, selection events for JList, JTable, and JTree, and more
complete documentation.

[066] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 14
by Dennis Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 06:15
About: SODE uses long Taylor series to solve systems of ordinary
differential equations. It generates code to solve the equations in either
Icon (or Unicon) or Maple. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of
the location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control
the error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there
are so many possibilities.
Changes: The ability to echo the input data in the output was added. A
"write" bug in the Maple code was fixed.

[071] - TrackIt 1.0 Beta 2
by Jason Dalton (http://freshmeat.net/users/tjasond/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 22:11
Software Development :: Version Control
About: TrackIt is a Web-based project tracking tool designed from the
ground up to provide maximum flexibility, customization, and most
importantly, usefulness to the developer. It has built-in support for
various Extreme Programming constructs, as well as CVS integration. It

[072] - Twindy 0.2
by NiallM (http://freshmeat.net/users/NiallMoody/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 14:34
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers
About: Twindy is a window manager inspired by Tracktion, the multitrack
audio editor/sequencer for Windows and OS X. It tries to apply Tracktion's
workflow, in which everything is on the screen at once, to a window
manager. There are two panels, a main panel in which new windows/programs
open by default and may be selected using tabs, and a lower panel, which
can only hold one window/program at a time. It uses a modified version of
the JUCE library (included), resulting in relatively few dependencies and
a fairly unique appearance.

[073] - txt2html 2.42
by Kathryn Andersen (http://freshmeat.net/users/kat/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 03:35
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development
About: txt2html is a Perl program that uses the HTML::TextToHTML perl
module to convert plain text to HTML. It supports headings, lists, tables,
simple character markup, hyperlinking and is highly customizable. It
recognizes some of the apparent structure of the source document (mostly
whitespace and typographic layout) and attempts to mark that structure
explicitly using HTML.
Changes: The --instring option was added to the txt2html script, which
enables one to process a string instead of a file. The --instring,
--inhandle, and --outhandle options were added to HTML::TextToHTML. The
--instring option works as described above. The --inhandle option enables
one to pass in input file handles to process. The --outhandle option
enables one to pass in an output file handle.

[077] - xlit 1.4
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Wed, Aug 10th 2005 23:18
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: xlit is a program for converting text from one writing system into
another. It allows the user to define a transliteration simply by typing
the input strings in one window and the strings to which they are to be
mapped in another. Transliteration may be restricted to regions bounded by
specified delimiters or their complements.
Changes: Support for arbitrary pairs of strings as delimiters (e.g. such
TeX style regions as {\foo .....}) was added. Files containing the entire
transliteration definition, just the left hand side, or text to be
transliterated may now be specified on the command line. Miscellaneous
minor improvements were made.
