About: alph implements and analyzes historical and traditional ciphers and
codes, such as polyalphabetic, substitutional, and mixed employing
human-reconstructable algorithms. It provides a pipe filter interface in
order to encrypt and decrypt block text to achieve transparency. The
program is meant to be used in conjunction with external programs that
transfer data, resulting in transparent encryption or decryption of
information. The program can thus be used as a mail filter, IRC filter, IM
filter, and so on.
Changes: A small problem with the BASE64 encoder and FEISTEL was
corrected. The TEA cipher was introduced and the manpage was updated
accordingly.

About: Arabica is a C++ XML parser toolkit that has a full SAX2
implementation (the Simple API for XML), including the optional interfaces
and helper classes. It also implements the W3C DOM (Document Object Model)
Level 2.0 Core, together with XPath 1.0. It delivers UTF-8 encoded
std::strings or UCS-2 std::wstrings, but can also accommodate custom
string types and alternative encodings. It provides uniform SAX2 wrappers
for the expat parser, Xerces, libxml, and the Microsoft XML parser COM
component.
Changes: Arabica now includes an XPath engine which implements all of the
XPath 1.0 recommendation with the exception of the id(o) and lang(s)
functions. This initial release only supports DOM::Node<std::string>. The
libxml2 declHandler for SAX is now zero initialized. The hasNamespaceURI
and getNamespaceURI functions in DOM were fixed. Assorted compliance fixes
and adjustments were made to ensure clean builds using gcc 3.3.3 and gcc
4.x.

About: GNOME Sudoku is a GNOME-based puzzle game based on Sudoku, a
popular Japanese logic game. It provides a simple interface for playing,
saving, printing, and solving Sudoku puzzles and generates symmetrical
puzzles with unique solutions. It features support for infinite undo, a
rating of the difficulty of games, and a memory of all games you play.
Changes: This release adds an interface to print many sudoku at a time (so
you can print sets to bring on vacation or give to friends), an interface
to control the sudoku generator by hand (by default, sudoku are generated
in the background as needed), a Debian package, and a number of small
bugfixes.

and detecting standard named networks, detecting (and given time,
decloaking) hidden networks, and inferring the presence of nonbeaconing
networks via data traffic.
Changes: This release primarily addresses a potentially serious issue with
packet dissection that could lead to security compromises, as well as a
possible output issue with network SSIDs. There were also minor feature
enhancements and bugfixes. All users are strongly encouraged to upgrade.

data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with event
updates using fam), XML (mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb,
LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA generators
include image, audio, and animation decoders.
Changes: Latitude, longitude, and google-maps-location EA were added for
geospatial tagging of files. The megapixels EA now has optional support
for the KDE3 metadata interface. The optional ability to mount OpenOffice
documents, bibtex, XWindow, and klipper was added. XML mounting abilities
were improved. Bugfixes were made for emblem handling in EA indexes. Minor
bugfixes were made for the EXIF and ID3 plugins. Bugfixes were made for
passive view rereading and a rare bug for sorted active view and file

About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) is a tool
for developing and executing regular expressions using any of more than 20
search programs, editors, and programming languages. For each program in
each locale a palette showing the available regular expression constructs
is provided. The features of each program are determined by running a test
suite, which guarantees that they will be correct for the particular
program version and the user's locale. Executed expressions are recorded
in a history list, from which entries may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. This allows complex regular
expressions to be developed in pieces. It fully supports UTF-8 Unicode as
long as the underlying program does.
Changes: The init file system has been completely revamped. The number of
features that can be configured from the init file has increased
considerably. Since the new system is incompatible with the old one, a
command-line flag allows old-style files to be used. Font selection has
also been greatly improved, with different fonts for different purposes
and a better font control panel. A bug affecting some combinations of

[058] - rsyslog 0.9.7
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Mon, Aug 15th 2005 10:41
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, and
fully configurable output formats (including great timestamps). It is
designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to
work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features
require changing the config file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: This is an unscheduled release. It addresses some issues people
had with the new build system introduced in 0.9.6. It also fixes a bug
that prevented rsyslogd from being correctly built with MySQL support. If
you did not have any issues, you do not need to upgrade to this version.
0.9.7 will probably be replaced by the end of the week with the regularly
scheduled feature-enhanced version.

[075] - Unimaginatively-named Calendar 3.4.2
by Sam Clippinger (http://freshmeat.net/users/samc_silence_org/)
Mon, Aug 15th 2005 14:14
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Unimaginatively-named Calendar produces useful, printable calendars
on a Web site. It draws nice, stretchy bars across multi-day events, so you
can understand what's going on. It puts all of the information you enter
onto one screen, so you can print it. The printed copy is just as usable
as the on-screen version. It allows you to schedule a single event on
multiple, arbitrary dates (even if they don't form a pattern). It supports
repeating events and private calendars, and allows iCal/Sunbird users to
subscribe. It allows you to categorize events and limit what the user sees
using themes.
Changes: The names of the leakytent packages referenced through reflection
have been changed. This only affects the calendar code if it is running as
part of the leakytent system. The version.txt file has been moved into
templates/calendar, and a soft link provided to it in the website root. A
subtle problem has been fixed in Event.loadOccurrences() that would treat
a null entry in the given event array as a null event array, thus loading
all occurrences of all events instead of just skipping it. This was giving
a lot of strange duplications in production.

by Thomas Leonard (http://freshmeat.net/users/tal197/)
Mon, Aug 15th 2005 02:37
Internet
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install
software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL
of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the
program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to
the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use",
etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run,
using environment variables to let it find the components.
Changes: Local interface files can be run directly or registered as an
extra source of versions (allowing you to make a CVS copy appear on the
list of available versions easily, for example). Extra system cache
directories can be listed, allowing easier sharing of downloads. A bug in
the detection of the version of tar was fixed. Mandrake and SuSE RPMs are
now available.
