Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Gnumeric is a powerful and easy to use spreadsheet using GNOME. Its
goal is to provide a full featured spreadsheet and a smooth migration path
for people and organizations currently using proprietary applications. It
provides more sheet functions and greatly improved accuracy when compared
to Microsoft's Excel. A plugin system lets you extend Gnumeric, adding
functions, I/O formats, and real time data capabilities. The existing
Python, Guile, and Perl plugins let you define complex functions. Gnumeric
is capable of reading and writing MS Excel, and reading Lotus, Applix,
Quattro Pro, OpenCalc, XBase, DIF, SYLK, HTML, Psion, MPS, oleo, sc, misc.
text formats, and its native XML. It can also generate Latex, HTML, and
others.
Changes: Win32 font improvements were made. When you hide a toolbar, it
will stay hidden. Many graph improvements were made for cases such as
rotated text. The beginnings of conditional formatting were added, but
there is no GUI yet. Spurious line breaks in printing should be gone. Lots

About: The Prelude Library (libprelude) is the glue that binds all aspects
of Prelude together. It is a library which enables Prelude components to
communicate with the Prelude Manager. It also makes it easy for third
party software to be made 'Prelude Aware' (able to communicate with
Prelude components). It provide common, useful features used by every
sensor.
Changes: A workaround was added for systems without variadic macros. An
integer truncation issue was fixed on systems that do not support the
"%llu" conversion specifier. A compilation issue on systems without
va_copy() was fixed. The connection port number (5554) changed to the IANA
reserved Prelude port number (4690). The full analyzer process path is
recorded, as per IDMEFv14 recommandation. More IDMEF Criteria operators
were added. Case insensitive matching is allowed.

About: The PreludeDB Library provides an abstraction layer upon the type
and format of the database used to store IDMEF alerts. It allows
developers to use the Prelude IDMEF database easily and efficiently
without worrying about SQL, and to access the database independently of
the type/format of the database.
Changes: Error reporting through Python bindings was improved. Fix
insertion of FileAccess Permission, missing retrieval of UserID tty. More
operators are supported, including a case insensitive version of the most
operator and a new regexp operator. An invalid UTC offset applied to
broken down time match was fixed. A new preludedb-admin tool was added to
allow PreludeDB databases to be saved, loaded, deleted, copied, and
printed. When no database password is set, a default of "prelude" is not
used, since this prevented a user from accessing a database with no

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and

The fairness is based on several zero-knowledge-proofs from Christian
Schindelhauers research paper "A Toolbox for Mental Card Games". It has a
graphical user interface based on xskat 3.4. The modified sources are
included and require an X11 environment.
Changes: This release uses a more secure key derivation function (PBKDF1)
from RFC 2898. For compatibility reasons, the former encrypted keys are
still readable. Furthermore, there exist user commands to export and
import a public key manually. The key and ranking databases are now stored

About: Rats! is a parser generator for C-like languages (though currently
it only generates parsers in Java). It has been designed so that grammars
are concise and easily extensible. To this end, grammars are organized
into modules that can be easily changed by adding, removing, or modifying
alternatives in individual productions and composed with each other
through module parameters. Furthermore, it relies on ordered choices to
avoid ambiguities, supports syntactic predicates for unlimited lookahead,
and integrates lexing with parsing. Finally, it has extensive support for

About: The file renaming utilities (renameutils for short) are a set of
programs designed to make renaming of files faster and less cumbersome.
qmv ("quick move") allows file names to be edited in a text editor. The
names of all files in a directory are written to a text file, which is
then edited by the user. The text file is read and parsed, and the changes
are applied to the files. qcp copies files instead of renaming them. imv
("interactive move"), is trivial but useful when you are too lazy to type
(or even complete) the name of the file to rename twice. It allows a file
name to be edited in the terminal using the GNU Readline library.
Similarly, icp copies files instead of renaming them.

About: uClibc (µClibc) is a C library for developing embedded Linux
systems. It is much smaller then the GNU C Library, but nearly all
applications supported by glibc also work perfectly with uClibc. Porting
applications from glibc to uClibc typically involves just recompiling the
source code. uClibc even supports shared libraries and threading. It
currently runs on standard Linux and MMU-less Linux (also known as
µClinux) systems with support for ARM, i386, h8300, m68k, MIPS, mipsel,
PowerPC, SH, SPARC, and v850 processors.
Changes: Many routine updates for improved architecture support and
improved standards compliance.

Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
About: unicap is a library to access different kinds of capture devices.
Device drivers are loaded with a plugin system so that new drivers can be
easily added. Currently, it has support for video-4-linux,
video-4-linux-2, IIDC cameras, and video-to-firewire converters, and
provides GTK widgets for live video display and access to device
properties.
Changes: This release fixes bugs in the IIDC/DCAM plugin that caused
images of certain formats to get corrupted. The GTK+ video display widget
now supports the display of the Y411 color format.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Whois domain is a PHP class which can check the whois information
for domain names. If the result for a query is negative, then a standard
message is given. Special features include string validation for the name
part, a dynamic selection menu for the defined TLDs, domain checking or
full domain querying, and multiple domain check.
Changes: A small problem has been fixed where if the user requested data
about the .de domain (denic), the exec function would not work for this
kind of TLD. This release adds the method get_whois_data() and an if
clause to always use a socket connection for this kind of TLD.

About: Xpdf is a viewer for Portable Document Format (PDF) files. (These
are also sometimes also called 'Acrobat' files, from the name of Adobe's
PDF software.) The Xpdf project also includes a PDF text extractor,
PDF-to-PostScript converter, and various other utilities. It runs under
the X Window System on UNIX, VMS, and OS/2. The non-X components (pdftops,
pdftotext, etc.) also run on Win32 systems, and should run on pretty much
any system with a decent C++ compiler. Xpdf is designed to be small and
efficient. It can use Type 1 and TrueType fonts.
Changes: This release adds the continuous view mode, partial page
rasterization, and the ability to search backwards and case-sensitively.

About: yacpi is yet another configuration and power interface. It shows
acpi information (battery status, etc.) from your proc filesystem in an
ncurses interface.
Changes: Display of the battery state has been fixed (before every time
charging was displayed). Support for multiple batteries has been completed
(with a new command line option -m). There is some code cleanup. Display of
battery status is changed if the terminal width is small. yacpi is now two
times faster.
