[001] - amavisd-new 2.3.3
by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 21:39
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssasin Perl module. It talks to the MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.
Changes: This release adds a safety net around calls to SA to prevent
potential runaway clone processes with SA older than 3.1. Releasing a
message with a different quarantine ID than requested is now fatal.
Undefined variable dsn_cutoff_level is now ignored. Handling of
syntactically invalid IP address in lookups is documented. Parsing of an
IPv6 address in $*_method is fixed. On submitting to an MTA, the parameter
BODY=8BITMIME is now passed on when needed. This release checks during
startup that $myhostname is a fully qualified domain name. Sending the
mail header has been sped up. IP lookups and reading the loop in SMTP DATA
state have been optimzed.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: AntiExploit is a on-access exploit scanner to detect local
intruders. It scans for over 3900 suspicious files, has daily database
updates, and will act if a file is accessed. It uses the dazuko kernel
module, which is also used by clamAV, Amavis, and other virus scanners.
Changes: Fixes a bug in the write_log function that could give an attacker
root privileges under certain circumstances.

[003] - Ascii2Binary 2.7
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 21:43
Utilities
About: The Ascii2Binary project consists of two complementary programs
that convert between textual and binary representations of numbers.
Ascii2Binary reads input consisting of textual representations of numbers
separated by whitespace and produces as output the binary equivalents. It
is useful for generating test data and linking programs that generate
textual output to programs that require binary input. Binary2Ascii
converts binary numbers to text. In both programs, the type and
size/precision of the input or output is selected using command line
flags.
Changes: The exit codes returned by both programs have been redefined to
provide a fine-grained indication of the nature of the error. This makes
them more useful in scripts, which can now distinguish errors arising from
ill-formed or out of range input from invalid command line arguments and
system errors

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: AS_IPFW is designed to be a firewall API, but it also includes some
rulesets that can be used for certain setups. Special features include
recognition of all nmap scan types, proactive slowdown of such (50000% and
more), and the ability to provide back fake information to scans.
Changes: This version adds support for kernel-level iptables-based Stealth
Scan (TCP half-open) detection. The TCP FNX scan slowdown efficiency has
been tuned by about 38%.

by Rob Manning (http://freshmeat.net/users/manningr/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 21:41
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Systems Administration
About: DB Copy Plugin is a database copying plugin for the SQuirreL SQL
Client. It makes it possible to copy and paste tables from one session to
another and between different databases and includes primary key and
foreign key constraints for copied tables, and uses Hibernate 3.0
internally to perform database object type mappings. It supports
Firebird, Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, MySQL, HyperSonic, Pointbase,
and PostgreSQL, and allows the user to select a Hibernate dialect for the
destination database if one couldn't be determined automatically.
Changes: This release adds custom column type mappings for IBM DB2, and a
new configuration option to disable auto-detection of the destination
database (which causes the Hibernate dialect chooser to always appear when
copying to a new database session; dialect choices are cached for existing
sessions). The Oracle type mapping for LONGVARCHAR has been changed to use
CLOB instead of LONG, since LONG is deprecated and multiple LONG columns
for a single table aren't supported, whereas multiple CLOB columns for a
single table are.

Information Management
About: Gourmet Recipe Manager is a simple but powerful recipe managing
application that is intended for the GNOME desktop environment, but
should work on any platform that Gtk supports. It allows you to collect,
search, and organize your recipes, and to automatically generate shopping
lists from your collection. It aims to make it easy to enter and
organize your recipes with an intuitive interface.
Changes: Fixes menus in the shopping list so they work without GNOME
libraries. Fixes unit adjustment in shopping lists (so that easily
readable units are always used). Behaves better when locales are behaving
badly.

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Home Automation
About: Grifcat is a simple utility which monitors a Griffin Powermate and
sends state change information to the calling script. It tracks the button
and wheel motion, reporting each move as it occurs and accumulating net
changes in both directions. It is convenient for script writers and those
looking for an easy way to integrate the powermate into their applications
via a simple coprocess. Grifcat uses libusb to access the USB in a platform
independent manner.
Changes: Grifcat can now control the LED built into the Griffin Powermate
as well as read back input given to it. You can directly set the
brightness as well as configure the "pulsing" effect.

About: The GTK Programmer's Calendar is intended for people who think
about time in terms of files and projects, and for people for whom what
happened is more important that what will happen (e.g., "what projects did
I work on last Thursday?" or "My last three days of work needs to be thrown
away; how do I get it out?").
Changes: Many bugfixes were made. The current day is now highlighted.
Meta-days are supported (for example, -1225 for December 25th of every
year). Time is now supported. Periods are now supported (for example,
20050820P3d for a period of three days starting 2005-08-20). Help was

[030] - Gtk2::Ex::Datasheet::DBI 0.8
by Daniel Kasak (http://freshmeat.net/users/dkasak/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 04:17
Database :: Front-Ends
About: Gtk2::Ex::Datasheet::DBI is a Perl module that is used in
conjunction with Gtk2::Perl to give data-aware "datasheet" functionality.
The programmer creates a GUI with Gtk2-Perl (and possibly Gtk2-GladeXML),
and then creates a Gtk2::Ex::Datasheet::DBI object, which then "binds" a
DBI data source to the datasheet, managing querying, navigating records,
applying updates to the database, and error handling.
Changes: Dynamic combos are refreshed when a toggle that they depend on is
edited. A renderer type is automatically chosen based on the database field
type of each field, but can be overriden. A default value is automatically
chosen for each column based on the database field definition, but this
can be overriden. String or numeric comparison is chosen based on database
field type for combo renderers. The "none" renderer was renamed to
"hidden", but old "none" renderers are still supported. The text renderer
is used for hidden columns so that dynamic combos can be pointed at them
to catch changes.

[031] - Gtk2::Ex::DBI 1.2
by Daniel Kasak (http://freshmeat.net/users/dkasak/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 03:44
Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Gtk2::Ex::DBI is a Perl module that is used in conjunction with
Gtk2::Perl and Gtk2::GladeXML to give data-aware "form" functionality. The
programmer creates a database form with Glade2, and then creates a
Gtk2::Ex::DBI object, which then "binds" a DBI data source to the form,
managing querying, navigating records, applying updates to the database,
and error handling.
Changes: The default values are set from database field definitions when
inserting a new record. A key is created in the records hash for each
field when inserting a new record (which avoids Perl warnings about
uninitialized values). set_defaults() was removed since it was
incorporated into assemble_new_record(). More eval{} stuff was added
around DB interaction, with Gtk2::Ex::Dialog::ErrorMsg warnings when
things fail. Gtk2::Ex::DBI->new() returns FALSE if the initial query
fails.

by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 08:26
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
About: HTMLpage is a text-based HTML editor. It can use drag'n'drop to
generate hyperlinks and image tags with relative links and image sizes. It
allows you to create a table by highlighting and copying a table from a
document, pasting it into HTMLpage, and then clicking TABLE-ify. It will
turn the comma-delimited data into a nice neat HTML table. Plain text can
be converted to HTML. It also features spell-checking, color tag
generation from a color picker, and keyboard shortcuts for several common
HTML tags.
Changes: This project supersedes HTMLRox, and it no longer requires
ROX-Filer or ROX-Lib. The dependency on PIL (Python Imaging Library) was
removed. An integrated help section in tabbed notebook form was added.
Error-checking and portability were much improved.

Sun, Aug 21st 2005 11:57
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: minpair generates a complete list of minimal pairs (words differing
in exactly one segment) for use in linguistic research from a list of words
in UTF-8 Unicode. By default, only searches for pairs of words of the same
length differing in exactly one segment. Command line options allow the
addition of single insertions or deletions and single transpositions. In
order to find all minimal pairs it is normally necessary for the input
notation to use one character for each segment. Even in IPA transcription,
this is often not the case. minpair provides for this situation by
accepting definitions of multigraphs.
Changes: The GUI will now optionally sort the output. Interactive font
selection is now provided. Many aspects of the GUI can now be configured
by means of an initialization file. These include features of the GUI
itself, such as fonts and colors and default settings for minpair
parameters. It is also possible to define custom character insertion
widgets in the initialization file. The GUI has been reorganized and
beautified.

Changes: A major rewrite was done. All known bugs were fixed. More robust
image scaling and image alignment was added. Far more robust calculation
of Y-space needed for current block of data was added. Support for color
background setting for cells was added: the current options are "box" or
"ellipse". Group headings are kept with data, so a group header isn't
printed at the bottom of a page. $cell_spacing was replaced with dynamic
calculation of $field->{text_whitespace}.

[071] - shn2make 2.12
by cliff (http://freshmeat.net/users/iamcliff/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 11:58
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
About: shn2make works with sets of SHN or FLAC audio files and the make
program to automate the burning of archive and audio CDs, and the encoding
of MP3 and Ogg files. It finds the SHN or FLAC files in the current
directory and verifies the MD5 checksums. It then looks for the .nfo or
txt file, finds the song names, and matches the songs to the available
files. If everything is correct, it outputs the text of a Makefile. The
targets of the makefile automate the various tasks that need to be done
with SHN and FLAC sets. For example, "make Ogg" will uncompress and then
encode all the files in the set to named and tagged Ogg Vorbis files.

[078] - Sysbotz Search 1.0.1
by sysbotz (http://freshmeat.net/users/sysbotz/)
Sun, Aug 21st 2005 21:44
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: Sysbotz Search is both a search engine and an advanced search
dialog written using AJAX (or DHTML technology) to provide search results
as you type. The server side script has been tuned for speed to provide
nearly instant results to facilitate the live search results functionality
on the client side. The client side script also will degrade down to a
normal search box on older browsers.
Changes: This release adds support to the search engine backend for the
file types PDF and XML. Several more factors have been added to the
keyword analysis, resulting in much higher quality results. Searches can
now be refined by phrase, match all keywords, or match any keywords. The
