[001] - AqBanking 1.5.0beta
by aquamaniac (http://freshmeat.net/users/aquamaniac/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 00:15
Office/Business :: Financial
Software Development :: Libraries
About: AqBanking is a modular and generic interface to online banking
tasks, financial file formats (import/export) and bank/country/currency
information. It provides frontends for Qt, KDE, GTK, and console.
AqBanking uses backend plugins to actually perform the online tasks. HBCI,
OFX Direct Connect, and DTAUS discs are currently supported. AqBanking is
used by GnuCash, KMyMoney, and QBankManager.
Changes: This release added some commands to aqhbci-tool. which now allows
an HBCI account to be completely set up via the command line. The hbcixml2
tool can now be used to extract SWIFT records from HBCI log messages. Some
bugs were fixed and all importers (except OFX) now transform data to UTF-8
before committing to the application. AqHBCI was cleaned up internally.
Updating from versions 1.3.x and 1.4.x is strongly recommended.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: AudienceConnect::E-Zine is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution
for independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. AudienceConnect can be extended to deliver any digital
content such as sound and image files. Installation is very simple, as no
database technologies are used.
Changes: Generation of static HTML for search engines has been fixed.

Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management
About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.
Changes: The assignable field is now validated before saving into the
database so that a proper error message can be displayed if the field is
empty under some abnormal conditions. The field mandatory requirement was
made more easily customizable based the status of the issue. A bug that
could cause a closed issue to not be re-opened when edited through email
was fixed. A database JDBC statement is now always closed in a finally
clause.

[014] - Conary 0.61.10
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 17:42
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Updating systems is now more robust, the conary update command
now takes a --sync parameter, and there are some new options to make
packaging groups more flexible and powerful.

by Indrek Jarve (http://freshmeat.net/users/indrekjarve/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 10:20
Communications :: Email
Information Management :: Document Repositories
Office/Business :: Groupware
About: Conflux is Web-based groupware and collaboration software. It
offers a shared central document repository, shared calendars, tasks and
contacts, and an email client. It has support for Unicode, multiple
languages, and date/time formats for the English, German, and Estonian
languages. Access rights are offered in hierarchical (group) form.
Changes: Performance problems in object view forms related to relations
have been fixed. Compatibility with various SMTP servers has been
improved, so outgoing email messages no longer violate the 1000 characters
per line limit defined in RFC-2821. Outgoing email messages that were
created based on a draft email now correctly save to the Sent Items
folder. Previously, while the messages were sent out correctly, an empty
message was saved to the folder.

rogue host is determined, and alerts the administrator of any suspicious
logins.
Changes: This release fixes an issue which caused multiple instances of
the same host to be added to /etc/hosts.deny (due to exceeding multiple
DENY_THRESHOLD* settings simultaneously), displays a more useful error if
the Python version is out of date, and changes the email timestamp format.

Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 09:39
Multimedia :: Video
About: Dirac is a general-purpose video codec aimed at resolutions from
QCIF (180x144) to HDTV (1920x1080), progressive or interlaced. It uses
wavelets, motion compensation and arithmetic coding, and aims to be
competitive with other state-of-the-art codecs. The Open Source
implementation provides a C++ library with an encoder and decoder.
Changes: This is a minor release with algorithmic improvements to motion
estimation and chroma fidelity and arithmetic coding. Decoding speed has
improved by 20-25%. The bitstream has changed, so files encoded using
earlier versions will be incompatible with this release. Patches have been
provided to include Dirac support in MPlayer, ffmpeg, and transcode (via

[032] - GXPARSE 0.1.9
by Ian E. Gorman (http://freshmeat.net/users/iegorman/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 23:41
Text Processing :: General
Text Processing :: Markup :: DocBook
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: GXPARSE is not a new XML parser, but is an additional processing
layer that makes it much easier to use event-based parsers like the SAX
parser. It supports both direct sequential output and random access output
(via the Resequencer interface). The random access mode delays output until
all input has been processed, but makes it much easier to handle ID/IDREF
attributes. GXPARSE maintains most advantages of the event-based parser.
Application development and maintenance is considerably easier, but
processing is a little slower.
Changes: Pattern matching was simplified. A new class (Modifier) of
operators makes it easy to build complex patterns and to do recursive
pattern matching. The ScanRule class works like a Perl pattern-codeblock
rule. Preliminary examples show how to do recursive-descent parsing with
subclasses of ScanRule and ScanMatch.

by Chox (http://freshmeat.net/users/neelan/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 23:35
Database :: API
About: Kodo JDO allows you to write database calls using Java statements
instead of SQL statements, by supporting the Java Data Objects standard
for transparent persistence. It is the most complete implementation of the
JDO specification for relational data stores, and comes with tools for
producing a schema from an object model, producing class files from an
existing schema, and a performance pack (distributed caching and statement
batching) that improves performance by 15 - 30 times. It supports most
relational databases, application servers, and IDEs, and reduces the total
coding effort by 20-40%.
Changes: A number of new features were added. The query cache now caches
aggregates and projections, including queries that use grouping. Support
for savepoints, with both in-memory and JDBC3 plugins, were added. Support
for Oracle Object fields through JDBC SQLData interfaces were added.
Support for large transactions was added, including several optimizations
in the datastore cache when using large transactions. SQLWarning instances
are now checked and can be handled in a customizable way.

separated from the general purpose console emulation. As a consequence,
there are now two different pieces of software: lcd-linux which is now an
abstraction layer freely inspired by the tty layer, and the controller

[059] - nat-traverse 0.4
by Ingo Blechschmidt (http://freshmeat.net/users/iblech/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 09:40
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: nat-traverse establishes connections between hosts which are behind
NAT gateways (hosts which do not have public IP addresses) without the need
to reconfigure the involved NAT gateways. Additionally, you can setup a
small VPN by using pppd on top of nat-traverse.
Changes: The new option "--quit-after-connect" has been added, which is
useful if you want another program to use the tunnel. For example, you
could configure OpenVPN to use the the same ports as nat-traverse, and
thus OpenVPN would be able to cross NAT gateways.

System :: Networking
About: Netdiscover is a network address discovering tool that was
developed mainly for those wireless networks without DHCP servers, though
it also works on wired networks. It sends ARP requests and sniffs for
replies.
Changes: This release added a "-c" request count option, some screen
display changes, support for decimal sleep times, some changes to support
GCC 2.95, a customizable array for IPs scanned on fast mode, and changes
to scanning loops and sleep time that make scans slower by default, but
safer and less likely to experience packet loss. Usage parameters were

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: NetXMS is a monitoring system with a modular architecture. It can
be used for monitoring an entire IT infrastructure, starting with
SNMP-capable hardware (like switches and routers) and ending with
applications on servers. The system has a three-tier architecture; the
information is collected by monitoring agents (either its own agents or
SNMP agents) and delivered to the monitoring server for processing and
storing, where it can be accessed by using the management console. It
features centralized configuration and centralized agent upgrades.
Changes: This release fixes stability issues discovered in 0.2.3, adds the
ability to edit the agent configuration file from the management console,
and adds an "Agent.Restart" action in the core agent.

Desktop Environment
Software Development
About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the Internet.
Changes: This is the second Beta release of the 1.5.0 NX Server Manager.
The tree-menu code was rewritten to offer better speed and reliability and
more validity checks on the configuration parameters than can be fed to the
NX server.

About: Pop 3 scan is a full transparent proxy server for POP3 clients. It
runs on a Linux box with iptables (for port redirection). It can be used
to provide POP3 email scanning from the Internet to any internal network,
and is ideal for helping to protect your "Other OS" LAN from harm,
especially when used in conjunction with a firewall and other Internet
proxy servers. It is designed to enable scanning of incoming email
messages for viruses, worms, trojans, spam, and harmful attachments.
Because viewing HTML email can enable a spammer to validate an email
address (via Web bugs), it can also provide HTML stripping.
Changes: This release replaces the goodcode routine, creates "scannertype

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: PyEphem provides scientific-grade astronomical computations for the
Python programming language. Given an arbitrary date and location on Earth,
it can compute the positions of the sun, moon, and planets as well as any
asteroids, comets, or earth satellites whose orbital elements the user can
provide. There are additional functions for computing the angular
separation between two objects in the sky, determining the constellation
in which an object lies, and finding the times at which an object rises,
transits, and sets on a particular day.
Changes: Two bugs have been fixed and three small features were added. You
can now determine the right ascension and declination of a point in the sky
given the location of an observer and the azimuth and altitude of the point
above the observer. You can easily normalize an angle into the range zero
through twice pi. Earth satellites read in from TLE files now remember

About: SISC is an extensible Java-based interpreter of the algorithmic
language Scheme. It uses modern interpretation techniques and handily
outperforms all existing Java interpreters (often by more than an order of
magnitude). In addition, SISC is a complete implementation of the language.
The entire R5RS Scheme standard is supported. This includes a full number
tower including complex number support and arbitrary precision integers
and floating point numbers, proper tail recursion, hygienic macros, and
full support for first-class continuations (not just the escaping
continuations found in many other systems).
Changes: A novel infrastructure for 'optimistic' compilation, increasing
performance by 20-50%. Support for SRFIs 51, 54, 55, 60, and 62. A new
native implementation of SRFI 14 using bit vectors. Support for SLIB 3a2.
Better error handling, including a permissive parsing mode. Simplified
DEFINE-CLASS syntax. Class definitions can now refer to classes, slot
accessors, and modifiers in the same scope. The OO system has been
simplified to remove slot initializers and default values. The addition of
a DEFINE-VALUES primitive which works all scopes. Debian packaging.

Education
Education :: Testing
Software Development
About: TAU (Tuning and Analysis Utilities) is a set of tools for analyzing
the performance of C, C++, Fortran and Java programs. It collects much more
information than is available through prof or gprof, the standard Unix
utilities, including per-process, per-thread, and per-host information,
inclusive and exclusive function times, profiling groups that allow you to
organize data collection, access to hardware counters on some systems,
per-class and per-instance information, the ability to separate data for
each template instantiation, start/stop timers for profiling arbitrary
sections of code, and support for collection of statistics on user-defined
events.
Changes: This release adds new tools for performance data mining and
knowledge discovery, an Eclipse plugin, support for large trace files
(over 2GB), GPSHMEM, and importing CUBE(Kojak) profiles in paraprof,
improved OpenMP instrumentation, memory headroom calculations, 3D profile
displays in Paraprof, and PathScale compilers (C, C++, Fortran 95) for
Opteron Linux. TAU now supports Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases in
PerfDMF. Numerous other refinements and bugfixes have been added.

About: The WebAbility Web and Application Server (WAWAS) is intended to be
a PHP servlet, application server, and PHP server pages (PSP) system that
is designed to be a Jakarta equivalent on a PHP platform.
Changes: The code has been rewritten almost from scratch to support MIME,
modules, a configuration file, etc. It is prepared for PHP servlets,
Beans, and PSP, which will be coded soon. A static site should work
without problems; CGI is working normally, at least for PHP (some
variables are still hard coded).

About: Trackfs is a small program that tracks file system changes made by
another program (or group of programs). It is similar to "installwatch",
but works quite differently. While installwatch uses LD_PRELOAD to
intercept library functions like open() and unlink(), trackfs runs the
child program(s) with tracing enabled and tracks the system calls they
make.
Changes: Linux/x86_64 "biarch" systems are now supported. vfork and clone
handling were fixed. A manpage was added.

[101] - Vintela OpenSSH 4.1p1vrc1.8.0
by David Leonard (http://freshmeat.net/users/dleonard/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 11:14
Security
About: Vintela OpenSSH is a version of OpenSSH modified and packaged to
provide default single sign-on capability for Vintela customers using the
Vintela Authentication Service (VAS) and/ or Vintela Management eXtensions
(VMX) products. Vintela's version of OpenSSH defaults to authenticating
users via the GSSAPI-with-MIC mechanism, and authenticating hosts with
GSS-KEX. It works in conjunction with VAS, to allow secure shell single
sign-on to Unix hosts that have been joined to Active Directory domains.
Changes: This is a feature and bugfix release. Bugs fixed include Privsep
interaction with GSSKEX rekeying, and spurious characters appearing after
the GSSAPI realm name. New features include hostkey-free capability, and
the ability to specify SPNs to client. Security and performance
enhancements are included through packaging with recent versions of zlib
and OpenSSL.

[104] - xcalib 0.6
by Stefan Döhla (http://freshmeat.net/users/unrzn0/)
Tue, Aug 23rd 2005 23:48
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Video
About: xcalib loads the 'vcgt'-tag of ICC/ICM color profiles to the X-
server, in order to calibrate the user's display by tweaking the LUTs in
the video card. Users need a profile which contains the 'vcgt' tag to
achieve monitor calibration with the video card's LUTs. These profiles
can be created with most commercial profile creation programs. For
testing purposes, some profiles are added to the tarball.
Changes: Zero-interpolated upscaling if LUT is greater than vcgt was
added. Reading of mLUT instead of vcgt was added, but is not currently
memory-safe. This is used for profiles created by ProfileMechanic Monitor.
Obviously wrong profiles made by AdobeGamma are now concealed. An fglrx
version was added for ATI's proprietary driver. A loss calculation option
("-loss" or "-l") which shows how many steps are lost by calibrating the
device was added. Limits for VideoCardGammaFormula were added to the
internal parser.

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: Xlayout is a simple utility for controlling X11 windows and pointer
from the console or remotely. It can alter the geometry of a window, the
position of the pointer, hide a window or send it to the top, list all
windows, and get the current pointer position. For use in scripts, it has
the ability to return a status result ("1" for error, "0" for success). It
can also ease windows into location.
Changes: Beta testing has begun. This release includes features to display
information on the current screens connected. Some of the convenience
methods were smoothed out. Bugfixes were made for the user input. A lot of
code tidy ups were done.
