[003] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.4-STABLE
by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 06:03
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ and DMZ-2-LAN
forwarding, protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, and extensive user
definable logging with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It features
support for all IP protocols and VPNs such as IPSec. and is easy to
configure and highly customizable. A filter script that makes your
firewall log more readable is also included.
Changes: This release adds a multiroute setup script (also for NAT/SNAT),
fixes a bug in fwfilter which caused part of the log text to be cut off,
adds color tweaks for fwfilter, and adds miscellaneous minor bug tweaks
and bugfixes.

[004] - BitTorrent 4.0.4
by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 02:19
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
System :: Software Distribution
About: BitTorrent is a tool for copying files from one machine to another.
FTP punishes sites for being popular. Since all uploading is done from one
place, a popular site needs big iron and big bandwidth. With BitTorrent,
clients automatically mirror files they download, making the publisher's
burden almost nothing.
Changes: Trackerless Torrent files can now be identified. Opening an
already open torrent now behaves correctly. Play/pause state is no longer
saved across invocations of the GUI. Many more bugs were fixed.

[008] - EasyBookmarks 2.9.1
by B.Weber (http://freshmeat.net/users/foxbow/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 06:23
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: EasyBookmarks is a Web-based bookmarks system. It features easy
installation and maintenance, support for multiple users with personal
lists and personal configuration, and support for several databases with a
detached database engine. It has Mozilla/Firefox support with a bookmarklet
to add the current page to the collection and RSS feeds for each category
to support livebookmarks. The generated pages are HTML4 compliant and
support custom CSS for easy customizing.
Changes: The "Open in new window" option now affects an entry and no
longer adds a new button. The Edit entry in Life-Bookmark is no longer
malformed. The path to the root directory is now used in the RSS feed so
it works if ebm was installed in a subdirectory. The Edit view now allows
you to copy public entries to private categories. Copying an entry will no
longer change the Edit view to show the target. Logins from the RSS feed
now set the username in the form.

[010] - EXProxy 0.8.0
by dcr (http://freshmeat.net/users/dcr/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 06:18
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: EXProxy is a simple HTTP/HTTPS proxy server packaged as a Java
library and designed to listen to HTTP requests and responses going
through it. It has also the ability to modify requests and responses on
the fly. For HTTP over SSL, it uses the "man in the middle" principle, and
so will generate warnings about certificates in your Web browser.
Changes: The API is now stable; almost everything has been modified. The
API now provides listeners to receive failures and client connections
events. Performance enhancements have been made thanks to the Netbeans
profiler. There is now a simple graphical user interface to quickly launch
and test the EXProxy engine. This release adds an SSL dead lock bugfix,
better error support within the code, and better log messages.

[011] - fwknop 0.9.3
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 15:01
Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: fwknop implements an authorization scheme that requires only a
single encrypted packet to communicate various pieces of information,
including desired access through a Netfilter policy and/or specific
commands to execute on the target system. The main application of this
program is to protect services such as SSH with an additional layer of
security in order to make the exploitation of vulnerabilities much more
difficult. The authorization server works by passively monitoring
authorization packets via libpcap.
Changes: An on-disk cache of MD5 sums was added so that the MD5 sum check
can remain after restarts of fwknop. install.pl was updated to be more
friendly to Mac OS X. Variables access.conf may now have values instead of
just being defined. Additional server authentication mode code was started.

Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
Terminals :: Telnet
About: KildClient is a MUD client written with the GTK+ windowing toolkit.
It supports many common features of other clients, such as triggers, gags,
aliases, macros, timers, and much more. But its main feature is the
built-in Perl interpreter. At any moment, the user can execute Perl
statements and functions to do things much more powerful than simply
sending text the the MUD. Perl statements can also be run, for example, as
the action of a trigger, allowing you to do complex things. Some built-in
functions of KildClient allow interaction with the world, such as sending
commands to it. KildClient supports MCCP (Mud Client Compression Protocol)
versions 1 and 2, and a direct chat system to other users of KildClient or
other clients compatible with the MudMaster or zChat protocols.

[031] - PyEphem 3.7b
by brandonrhodes (http://freshmeat.net/users/brandonrhodes/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 14:17
Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: PyEphem provides scientific-grade astronomical computations for the
Python programming language. Given an arbitrary date and location on Earth,
it can compute the positions of the sun, moon, and planets as well as any
asteroids, comets, or earth satellites whose orbital elements the user can
provide. There are additional functions for computing the angular
separation between two objects in the sky, determining the constellation
in which an object lies, and finding the times at which an object rises,
transits, and sets on a particular day.
Changes: Several attributes (like earth_distance and sun_distance) that
are not actually supported by the underlying library were removed from
EarthSatellite objects, since they were returning nonsense values.

[032] - RetroForth 8.1
by Charles Childers (http://freshmeat.net/users/crc2/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 14:35
Software Development :: Assemblers
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: RetroForth is a compact, open source implementation of the
venerable Forth programming language. It can be used under FreeBSD, Linux,
BeOS, Windows, SCO OpenServer, Dex4u, L4Ka::Pistachio, or as an operating
system. It was designed to be easy to learn and use, yet remains powerful
enough to allow useful applications to be developed in it.
Changes: This version brings a number of small but useful improvements.
Support for vectored execution, an improved error handler, cleaner FFI,
and a method of integrating applications to the interpreter have been
added. Minor bugfixes abound, including fixes to the Dex4u syscall
function. The library has also grown to include support for sessions, an
easier editor, and floating point math.

[033] - Scintilla 1.66
by Neil Hodgson (http://freshmeat.net/users/neilh/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 02:09
Software Development :: Widget Sets
About: Scintilla is a free source code editing component for Win32 and
GTK+. As well as features found in standard text editing components,
Scintilla includes features especially useful when editing and debugging
source code. These include support for syntax styling, error indicators,
code completion and call tips. Styling choices are more open than with
many editors, allowing the use of proportional fonts, bold and italics,
multiple foreground and background colours and multiple fonts.
Changes: Text display on GTK+ with Pango 1.8 was fixed. The C++ lexer now
continues styling over line end characters for preprocessor lines and line
comments, allowing the use of the eolfilled style on these elements.
Keywords are highlighted within line doc comments. A new Ruby lexer
handles some here-documents, %-quoted-strings, symbols, @-, @@-, and
$-prefixed variables, pod-like sections, etc.

[034] - SciTE 1.66
by Neil Hodgson (http://freshmeat.net/users/neilh/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 02:10
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)
About: SciTE is a GUI-based single-document editor which uses the
Scintilla editor component. It rapidly styles most common programming
languages with good control over how syntactic elements are displayed, and
features folding for C++, C, Java, JavaScript, and Python. Styling of HTML
also styles embedded scripts written in VBScript, Javascript, or Python.
Changes: A bug with files located in directories that include the '.'
character was fixed. The built-in Find in Files command now implements
options for matching case and whole words. On GTK+, Save As and Export
dialogs now initialise the file name field. A recent calltip display bug
was fixed.

[035] - Sman 0.96
by joshr (http://freshmeat.net/users/joshr/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 02:12
Documentation
System
Text Processing :: Indexing
About: Sman is "The Searcher for Man Pages", an enhanced version of
"apropos" and "man -k". Sman adds several key abilities over its
predecessors, including stemming and support for complex boolean text
searches such as "(linux and kernel) or (mach and microkernel)". It shows
results in a ranked order, optionally with a summary of the manpage with
the searched text highlighted. Searches may be applied to the manpage
section, title, body, or filename. The complete contents of the man page
are indexed. A prebuilt index is used to perform fast searches.
Changes: The number of results to show is now determined based on the size
of the terminal (if applicable). Changes were made to the parsing of man
pages and handling of warnings. The documentation was updated and several
other small cosmetic code and output changes were made.

[036] - SMS Server Tools 1.15.7
by Stefan Frings (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfrings/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 02:19
Communications
About: The SMS Server Tools (smstools) were made to send and receive SMS
from one or many GSM modems. They include a send/receive daemon and some
sample scripts to build an SMS email gateway and for logging into an SQL
database. The daemon waits for files in an outgoing spool directory and
sends them. It puts all received SMS in an incoming spool directory, and
can call any external program for incoming or outgoing notification. This
software support text messages in 7 and 16 bits (UCS2), as well as 8 bit
binary messages.
Changes: The program passes now the ID of sent messages to eventhandler
when statusreport is disabled in the config file but requested in the sms
file.

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion
System :: Systems Administration
About: The svnmailer is a tool that is usually called by a subversion hook
to submit commit notifications in various ways (at the moment: mail via
SMTP or a pipe to a sendmail like program, news via NNTP, or CIA live
tracker notification via XML-RPC). It is derived from the original
mailer.py distributed with subversion, but should be much more consistent,
more extensible, and have many more features.
Changes: This release adds the possibility to specify content type and
disposition of diffs in multipart mails. Furthermore, it fixes another
help output problem due to the ever changing optparse interface.

[041] - Zero Install Injector 0.15
by Thomas Leonard (http://freshmeat.net/users/tal197/)
Sat, Aug 27th 2005 06:04
Internet
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install
software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL
of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the
program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to
the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use",
etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run,
using environment variables to let it find the components.
Changes: This release adds support for interfaces which provide multiple
binaries (e.g., svn and svnadmin). 0alias can now create launchers for
local interfaces. Release dates are now shown in the GUI. Various bugs
have been fixed.
