[002] - Access_user Class 1.84
by olaf (http://freshmeat.net/users/olaf2/)
Mon, Aug 29th 2005 05:28
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Access_user Class is an easy to use system for protecting pages and
registering users. The main features are user login, user registration,
page protection, forgotten password recovery, and email-based account
activation. The class is powered by MySQL and PHP sessions. Inside the
package are examples for all primary methods.
Changes: Some conflicts occur if you use this class together with tables
from a different database. The mysql_select_db command was removed and the
table names were modified (adding the database constant). There is a new
method (check_new_password) to check new passwords against a second
confirmation password. A new message (38) is used if this check result is
false. The methods register_user() and update_user() were modified. The
German and French messages are now available in the Users_profile
extension.

About: This driver allows the Linux kernel to use the ATA over Ethernet
(AoE) network protocol. Using AoE, a Linux system can use AoE block
devices like EtherDrive (R) storage blades. The block devices appear as
local device nodes (e.g. /dev/etherd/e0.0).
Changes: The aoe-2.4-4 driver can handle multiple AoE devices sharing the
same ethernet address, allowing multiple vblades to be used from a single
host, or multiple lblades to be used from a Coraid SATA+RAID shelf.
Sixteen slot addresses are now supported per shelf address. A minor

Mon, Aug 29th 2005 05:10
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
About: audio convert is a script that converts between WAV, Ogg, MP3,
MPC, FLAC, APE, and WMA files. It has an easy-to-use interface that
makes it possible to fill in the tags for a few formats and choose the
quality of compression. The script was initially designed for the
Nautilus file browser and can be easily installed into Nautilus by
copying it to the nautilus-scripts directory. You can then right- click
on files and choose "audio-convert" from the "scripts" menu. The script
is also known to work on rox or directly from a shell.
Changes: Artist and album metatag fields are now remembered through
multiple files. Two checks were added to make sure the input files are
supported and the user has the right codecs to decode them. A message now
informs the user that the conversion has been completed. The French
translation was updated. A Spanish translation was added. Minor bugfixes
were made.

[022] - Dnsmasq 2.23
by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
Mon, Aug 29th 2005 07:51
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of
diskless machines.
Changes: This release has some minor new features, including better
DHCPINFORM support and support for dynamic address allocation with BOOTP.
There are also a slew on minor bugfixes, mainly in the config-file parser
and DHCP subsystem. There are no showstopper bugs that were fixed, so
upgrading from 2.22 is not required if that version is working well.

[028] - GvTags 0.1.1
by tof (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvollrath/)
Mon, Aug 29th 2005 15:04
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: GvTags is a Groovy Tag library for Java ServerPages (JSP). It might
be for the Groovy programming language what the combination of JSTL and
Struts is for Java, or Smarty is for PHP. You get flexibility and agility
from scripting languages, powerful expression syntax from scripting
languages, a clear XML-based tag syntax, MVC pattern with optional
controller servlet, fast execution through dynamic compilation and
optimized execution in a JVM, and access to Java libraries and Java
technology since Groovy integrates well into Java (WebServices, J2EE,
etc.).
Changes: Based on the current Groovy Release 1.0 JSR-03. Now uses the
groovy-all jar file, which avoids compatibility problems with using
libraries.

About: NAJAX can be used to call PHP classes on the Web server side from
JavaScript code in Web pages. It uses AJAX technology to submit HTTP
requests from JavaScript to pass call parameters and collect and process
the responses. This package acts as a proxy that maps PHP objects to
JavaScript and vice versa. The package provides means to register the
handling client-server events using custom PHP classes to process such
events.
Changes: The NAJAX Client Event System (NACLES) and MySQL provider were
added. You can configure it from najax.config.php. allowClasses and
denyClasses were added to NAJAX_Server. najax.asyncCall was added in
najax.js/najax_optimized.js. Use this method to make asynchronous calls.
Better client error handling was added, so you can create method specific
error handlers. Security validations were added to NAJAX_Server. All
JavaScript functions have been renamed to najax.functionName(...).

[049] - Nautilus Actions 0.4
by RUAUDEL Frédéric (http://freshmeat.net/users/grumz/)
Mon, Aug 29th 2005 05:38
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Nautilus Actions is an extension for Nautilus, the GNOME file
manager, which allows you to configure programs to be launched on files
selected in the Nautilus interface. Each time you right-click on one or
several selected files in Nautilus, Nautilus Actions will parse its
configuration files to see if a program has been set for this selection.
If one has been set, it will add an item to the menu that allows you to
execute the program on the selected files.
Changes: Support for configuration per user was added. If you launch the
config tool as a normal user, you edit your own configuration. If you
launch it as root, you edit the system-wide configuration. A menu entry
for the config tool was added in the preferences menu of GNOME and in the
contextual menu of nautilus. A new pattern for the parameters was added
which gives the list of files with their full path (%M). In the config
tool, the FileChooser button was replaced by an entry and a browse button.
The config tool now displays a more user-friendly description of schemes.
The problem with compilation on 64-bit architectures was fixed.

by p.nenzi (http://freshmeat.net/users/pnenzi/)
Mon, Aug 29th 2005 08:48
Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
About: Ngspice is a mixed-level/mixed-signal circuit simulator based on
three open source software packages: Spice3f5, Cider1b1, and Xspice.
Spice3 is the most famous and widely used circuit simulator. Cider is
mixed-level simulator that includes Spice3f5 and adds DSIM, a device
simulator. Cider couples the circuit level simulator to the device
simulator to provide greater simulation accuracy (at the expense of
greater simulation time). Xspice is an extension to Spice3 that provides
code modeling support and simulation of digital components through an
embedded event driven algorithm.
Changes: Most of the bugs have been fixed, so ngspice is more stable,
especially the xspice extension, subcircuit handling, and numparam
library. The syntax has been expanded, allowing for end-of-line comments.
A ".global" card has beed added to define global nodes. It is possible to
define TC for resistors on the instance line. The editline library can be
used instead of readline. ngspice now works (with xspice) on Windows using

About: rsnapshot is a filesystem snapshot utility based on rsync. It
makes it easy to make periodic snapshots of local machines, and remote
machines over ssh. It uses hard links whenever possible, to greatly
reduce the disk space required.
Changes: This release fixed an important issue for people still using the
older default method of invoking rsync (without the --relative flag). For
these users, rsnapshot will now properly delete old files from the
snapshot root.

[063] - samhain 2.0.9
by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
Mon, Aug 29th 2005 14:32
Security
About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It
can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.
Changes: Support for libprelude has been improved: reporting of FileAccess
corresponds to the IDMEF specs, and mapping from samhain severities to
prelude severities is configurable. An inconsistency in the application of
policies to directory special files has been fixed, and the precedence
rules are clearly stated in the manual. A problem on Mac OS X Tiger has
been fixed.
