Documentation
Education
Scientific/Engineering

About: DB Visual Architect for Eclipse (DBVA-EC) is a full-featured
Object Relational Mapping (ORM) plugin for Eclipse that provides
round-trip code engineering support with Java. The tool acts as a bridge
between object model, data model, and relational model by automating the
mapping between relational rows in a database and object models which can
be manipulated by a Java program.

Changes: A problem in which an old diagram was renamed when reassociating
an overview diagram shape was fixed. A problem in which a component object
name did not refresh in a diagram after being assigned a base classifier
was fixed. A problem where dragging and dropping models in the tree did
not fire a "project modified" event was fixed. A problem with the wrong
items being listed in the recent project list was fixed. The dialog for
asking whether to recover a project was fixed so that it is not displayed
behind the splash screen.

  Tue, Aug 30th 2005 07:39

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
Text Processing :: Filters

About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.

Changes: Many minor bugs have been fixed. Support for dynamic storage
driver libraries has been added. Support for building multiple storage
drivers (for packagers) has been added. X-DSPAM-Result has been enhanced
to include the results of "Virus", "Blacklisted", and "Blocklisted".

[017] - Electric Fence 2.4.16
  by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
  Tue, Aug 30th 2005 07:43

Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Electric Fence (efence) stops your program on the exact instruction
that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer. GDB will then
display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works by using the
virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of each buffer
- touch that, and your program stops. Catch all of those formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs that have been bothering you for years.

Changes: The main focus of this release is better portability. A
standardized strerror() is now used. An error which occurred when
EF_NO_LEAKDETECTION was defined was fixed. Allocations from standard
libraries are marked before ef_init() is called to allow special treatment
in leak-checking. The default in eftest was changed to use two signals at
once: SIGSEGV and SIGBUS. Alignments bigger than page size are now allowed
for memalign(). The EF_EXPLICIT_INIT preprocessor flag was added to work
around buggy environments. Environment leaks are no longer reported.

About: Executable files may be linked statically or dynamically.
Dynamically linked executables use less disk space and memory, but
require appropriative dynamic libraries present in order to run. ELF
statifier make one executable file with no run-time dependencies from a
dynamically linked executable and all its libraries. This file can be
copied and run on another machine with no need for all of the libraries.

Changes: Compilation for gcc-4 was fixed. A statifying problem for kernel

Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management

About: enetman is a network asset management Web application written in
PHP with a MySQL backend. Its intended use is to maintain a structured
list of servers that can be cross referenced by location, manufacturer,
vendor, CPU, and OS. It allows for a user to create and maintain
locations, manufacturers, and vendors along with contact names and phone
numbers to each. It contains a device log that tracks issues that servers
have had, a list of network ports on the server along with IP information
(IP, subnet, gateway, DNS, network card make/model and MAC) for each port
(this includes aliased ports), and a software manager that keeps tabs on
expiration dates of software. It enables the user to create a directory
tree with files that can then be attached to locations, vendors,
manufacturers, software, or servers. It maintains a list of all software
installed on a server and how many licenses are allocated to it. A Perl
script run from cron emails users when a license is about to expire.

Changes: A misspelling of "Warranty" as "Warrenty" in the SQL create
statment was fixed.

[020] - FedEx Direct Connect 1.02
  by Vermonster (http://freshmeat.net/users/vermonster/)
  Tue, Aug 30th 2005 11:56

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The FedEx Direct Connect PHP class has been developed to ease the
integration efforts needed to bring FedEx shipping and tracking
capabilities into your PHP applications. It will enable you to send SSL
encrypted shipping, tracking, rate, and service availability transactions
directly to FedEx's transaction servers. This class is intended to be used
with FedEx's Ship Manager Direct API and can support all of its
transactions.

Changes: In response to the FedEx Direct Connect API changes, there have
been significant changes. New methods have been added to support FedEx's
new transaction types. New lookup tags have been added per the
TaggedTransactionGuide. There is a new PEAR HTTP_Request method for those
who can't use cURL. More examples are included. A few small bugs have been
fixed.

  Tue, Aug 30th 2005 14:56

Multimedia :: Graphics
Text Processing :: Fonts

About: FONTpage is a Python font viewing/image-generating utility. It
displays system fonts and allows you to change the font size and color,
background color, font face, bold, and italics. It also has the ability to
input the text to be displayed, which you can choose to save as a PNG file.
It is handy to view fonts and styles quickly, or to make "logo" graphics.
It was written to supersede wxFontView, as the pyGTK toolkit is much
lighter and more widely used.

Changes: This release adds install/remove font dialogs. Choosing to
install a font will: check if file is a TrueType font; make the new file
lower case with no spaces; copy the font into the user's home .font
directory; run 'fc-cache' on that folder; and display the font with your
current FONTpage settings.

[024] - GlGuiA 0.0.3
  by kafka-fr (http://freshmeat.net/users/kafkafr/)
  Tue, Aug 30th 2005 15:17

Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: GlGuiA is a set of Ada packages for creating graphical user
interfaces. It provides a complete and extensible set of graphical items
(widgets), such as buttons, scales, trees, message boxes, and dialog
boxes. It should be rather easy to create new objects from existing ones.
To gain platform independence, the library relies on OpenGl for drawing
primitives. Basic event and window management are done using GLUT.

Changes: OpenGL-related specifications have been split. It no longer uses
GLUT, but instead Glfw for low-level windows and events management. Much
better font handling, and basic decorations have been added to text. View
manipulations added: mouse move + middle button (pan view) and mouse wheel
(zoom view). A line entry widget to input single-line text has been added.
Activate with a mouse click, validate with enter or left-click, and cancel
with escape or right-click.

System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Kernel Mode Linux is a technology which enables the execution of
user programs in a kernel mode. In Kernel Mode Linux, user programs can
access kernel address space directly. Unlike kernel modules, user programs
are executed as ordinary processes (except for their privilege level), so
scheduling and paging are performed as usual. Although it seems dangerous,
the safety of the kernel can be ensured through such methods as static type
checking, software fault isolation, and so forth.

Changes: A bug that caused an error at signal-return on AMD-64 has been

[091] - XINS 1.3.0-alpha4 (Development)
  by Anthony Goubard (http://freshmeat.net/users/agoubard/)
  Tue, Aug 30th 2005 00:53

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: The XML-RPC calling convention was implemented. Methods were
generated on the client side for the data section. The User-Agent and
Server HTTP headers are now sent. A _CheckLinks meta function was added.
Returned values are now checked by the CAPI. A primer was included. A bug
with IBM JDK 1.3 was fixed and the SOAP/WSDL implementation was improved.
Other bugfixes and small improvements were made.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: XO Wave is a digital audio workstation which offers powerful
features and an intuitive cross platform user interface. It provides
simple yet powerful recording, editing, mixing, CD Burning, and scripting
(via the XML session file) as well as basic effects, including reverb,
compression, and EQ, and flexible real-time cross fades. The audio engine
is separate from the GUI, which allows for intelligent management of
background tasks and the ability to use separate machines for the
interface and for playback.

Changes: This release for the Mac OS X platform adds a number of major
features, but at the top of the list is automation on most effect
parameters. Audio can now be imported from a variety of new sources,
including iTunes playlists and QuickTime movies. Memory locations,
effects, and the edit and preferences windows have all been improved.
