Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Ad Censor is a Web proxy which filters out annoying ads by matching
requested URLs with a blacklist and by checking the HTML code for
suspicious tags which the user can define with Perl regex patterns. It can
work in tandem with another HTTP proxy, it has an easy-to-use GUI config
editor, and it can also block cookies.

[002] - Aeskuap 0.2.0
by Alexander Pipelka (http://freshmeat.net/users/pipelka/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 02:35
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
About: Aeskulap is a medical image viewer. It is able to load a series of
special images stored in the DICOM format for review. It is able to query
and fetch DICOM images from archive nodes (also called PACS) over the
network. The goal of this project is to create a full open source
replacement for commercially available DICOM viewers. It is based on
gtkmm, glademm, and gconfmm and designed to run under Linux. Ports of
these packages are available for different platforms. It should be quite
easy to port It to any platform were these packages are available.
Changes: Loading of local images has been fixed. The preferences dialog
and the search form were redesigned. Servers can now be clustered into
groups. A new 3D cursor tool was added.

Information Management
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Ajaqs is a Web application that organizes FAQs on a per-project
basis. The UI is templatized, the content is internationalized, and the
styles are highly configurable. Secure login is provided via webapp
security constraints. The backend uses an O-R mapping tool to achieve
independence of database-specific queries. RSS feeds provide subscribers
continuous updates on a per-project or per-FAQ basis. FAQs are dynamically
served up as HTML pages, and can optionally be streamed to clients as PDF
content.
Changes: The set of FAQs associated with a project is optionally served up
as a single PDF resource. This is in contrast to the previous release,
which just supported per-FAQ downloads as PDF resources (this feature
still exists).

[004] - Alexandria Book Collection Manager 0.6.1
by Laurent Sansonetti (http://freshmeat.net/users/lrz/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 15:08
Database :: Front-Ends
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: Alexandria is a GNOME application to help manage a book collection.
It retrieves book information (including cover pictures) from several
online libraries, allows you to search for a book (either by EAN/ISBN,
title, authors, or keyword), can import and export data into ONIX,
Tellico, and EAN/ISBN-list formats, generates Web pages from your
libraries, allows marking your books as loaned, saves data using the YAML
format, features an HIG-compliant user interface, shows books in different
views that can be filtered or sorted, and handles book rating and notes.
Changes: This release ships a workaround for a Ruby 1.8.3 bug with YAML
serialization of big numbers. The data model has been modified to
serialize the loaning dates differently, and Alexandria should also be
backward compatible with libraries generated by previous versions.

[006] - Backup Manager 0.5.9a
by Alexis SUKRIEH (http://freshmeat.net/users/sukria/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 16:59
About: Backup Manager is a small and basic tool for generating archives.
It is designed for those who don't want an obfuscated tool for making
tarballs. It can make tar, tar.gz, tar.bz, and zip archives. It can be run
in a parallel mode with different configuration files. Archives are kept
for a given number of days. Its upload system can use ftp or scp to
transfer the generated archives to a list of remote hosts. The
configuration file is very simple and basic.
Changes: This release provides a method for backing up MySQL databases
safely (using mysqldump). The configuration keys have been renamed in
order to provide a cleaner syntax, and sanitize checks are performed in
order to provide backward compatibility with old configuration files. Some
minor bugfixes also come with this release.

[009] - Drools 2.1
by Mark Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/mdproctor/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 00:31
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Drools is a Rete-based rules engine written in Java, but able to
run on Java and .Net. it is designed to allow pluggeable language
implementations. Currently, rules can be written in Java, Python, and
Groovy. It also enables domain-specific languages (DSLs) via XML using a
schema defined for your problem domain. DSLs consist of XML elements and
attributes that represent the problem domain. An XML authoring tool
provides a semi-rapid development environment with a drag and drop type
interface based on the provided schema.
Changes: Highlights include Excel decision tables, Spring and POJO
integration, Xor Group, and improved exception handling via JDK 1.4 nested
exceptions.

[010] - fwknop 0.9.5
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 18:57
Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: fwknop implements an authorization scheme that requires only a
single encrypted packet to communicate various pieces of information,
including desired access through a Netfilter policy and/or specific
commands to execute on the target system. The main application of this
program is to protect services such as SSH with an additional layer of
security in order to make the exploitation of vulnerabilities much more
difficult. The authorization server works by passively monitoring
authorization packets via libpcap.
Changes: This release adds the ability to resolve the external IP
associated with the local network via whatismyip.com. This is a more
secure method of accomplishing what the -s option performs. The new
command line option is --whatismyip (or just -w). This release has been
updated to communicate with knoptm via a Unix domain socket instead of the
previous file-based communication. It will flush the fwknop netfilter
chains at start time. A bug with removing the wrong hash key from the
knoptm IP cache has been fixed.

[014] - gnormalize 0.43
by Claudio F. S. Rodrigues (http://freshmeat.net/users/claudiofsr/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 02:28
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: gnormalize is a front end to the "normalize" tool, a ripper, an
encoder, and an audio converter. It decodes MP3, MP4 (or M4A or AAC), MPC
(or MPP or MP+), OGG, APE, or FLAC files to wave, then normalizes the wave
and re-encodes it. It can also rip audio CDs, encode audio data, convert
audio formats between MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, APE, and FLAC, and change the
encoding properties and edit Meta Info (like title, artist, album, etc.)
of the final normalized files.
Changes: Some color was added to the playlist. The ability to remove the
selected songs from the playlist was added. The directory name is used for

[015] - GNU shtool 2.0.3
by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 12:04
System :: Shells
About: GNU shtool is a compilation of small but very stable and portable
shell scripts into a single shell tool. All ingredients were in successful
use over many years in various free software projects. The compiled shtool
program is intended to be used inside the source tree of free software
packages. There it can overtake various (usually non-portable) tasks
related to the building and installation of an free software package.
Changes: "shtool mdate" now resets TIME_STYLE, as GNU coreutils' "ls"
changes its time format in response to the TIME_STYLE variable. "shtool
platform" now uses "env -i sort" for Linux detections to circumvent
LC_COLLATE and LANG environment problems. "shtool version -l perl" has
been fixed by replacing "my" with "our". FreeBSD/AMD-64 on iX86/EM64T
detection has been improved within "shtool platform".

[016] - History links 1.3
by Vladimir Kudryavtsev (http://freshmeat.net/users/volodia/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 12:26
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: This class can be used to keep track of the pages navigated by a
user, so it can generate back or next links providing a similar effect to
the use of the Javascript history.go() function. It uses sessions to store
an array variable that holds the URL of each page of a site that the user
accesses. It can limit the number of pages that are kept in the history
array. It may also ignore pages accessed with the POST method or with
certain URLs based on options that define exclusion regular expressions.
The class can generate links to go back to the last page or the first page
that was recorded.
Changes: The class is completely changed. This release adds creation of
several objects of a class, a predefined start page, an expanded list of
exceptions, and the methods get_history_back, get_history_next,
is_history_back (check back one page), is_history_next (check the next
page), get_history_backs (go to the first page), get_history_nexts (go to
the last page), and get_history_header (go to the previous and next pages
using external parameters). It adds history "always", and has more
compatibility with javascript:history.go() (no checking previous and next
pages). New methods have been added for the manipulation of history
"always".

[018] - JavaScript::Squish 0.04
by unrtst (http://freshmeat.net/users/unrtst/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 01:57
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
Text Processing :: Filters
About: JavaScript::Squish provides methods to compact Javascript source
down to only what is needed. It can remove all comments, put everything on
one line (semi-)safely, and remove extra whitespace. It breaks the process
down into individual steps, and one can pick and choose what parts to
complete to get a custom amount of compactness. It is distributed as a
Perl module and a handy bin script (so you don't need to know Perl to use
it, but you can do a lot more custom things if you do).
Changes: If some comments were excluded from removal and all lines were
squished to one line, the JavaScript would come back twice (as if you did
"var data = code + code;"). This bug has been fixed.

Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
Terminals :: Telnet
About: KildClient is a MUD client written with the GTK+ windowing toolkit.
It supports many common features of other clients, such as triggers, gags,
aliases, macros, timers, and much more. But its main feature is the
built-in Perl interpreter. At any moment, the user can execute Perl
statements and functions to do things much more powerful than simply
sending text the the MUD. Perl statements can also be run, for example, as
the action of a trigger, allowing you to do complex things. Some built-in
functions of KildClient allow interaction with the world, such as sending
commands to it. KildClient has extensive ANSI support, it can display text
in the standard 16 colors, and also text underlined, in italics,
strike-through, and in reverse video. It supports vt100's line drawing
characters for nice tables and xterm's sequences for a 256-color mode.
KildClient supports MCCP (Mud Client Compression Protocol) versions 1 and
2, and a direct chat system to other users of KildClient or other clients
compatible with the MudMaster or zChat protocols.
Changes: This version fixes some bugs, including one that caused heavy
memory consumption in long sessions. It also fixes a security fault.

[047] - OSSP ex 1.0.5
by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 12:09
Software Development :: Libraries
About: OSSP ex is a small ISO-C++ style exception handling library for use
in the ISO-C language. It allows you to use the paradigm of throwing and
catching exceptions in order to reduce the amount of error handling code
without making your program less robust. This is achieved by directly
transferring exceptional return codes (and the program control flow) from
the location where the exception is raised (throw point) to the location
where it is handled (catch point), usually from a deeply nested
sub-routine to a parent routine. All intermediate routines no longer have
to make sure that the exceptional return codes from sub-routines are
correctly passed back to the parent.

GNU shtool 2.0.3.

[049] - OSSP var 1.1.3
by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 15:04
Software Development :: Libraries
About: OSSP var is a flexible, full-featured, and fast variable construct
expansion library. It supports a configurable variable construct syntax
very similar to the style found in many scripting languages (like @name,
${name}, $(name), etc.) and provides both simple scalar (${name}) and
array (${name[index]}) expansion, plus optionally one or more
post-operations on the expanded value (${name:op:op...}). The supported
post-operations are length determination, case conversion, defaults,
postive and negative alternatives, sub-strings, regular expression-based
substitutions, character translations, and padding. Additionally, a
meta-construct plus arithmetic expressions for index and range
calculations allow (even nested) iterations over array variable expansions
(..[..${name[#+1]}..]..). The actual variable value lookup is performed
through a callback function, so OSSP var can expand arbitrary values.
Changes: sprintf(3) parameter passing has been fixed. The build

rather than wiping it without asking. /var/lib/rpm has been added to the
default list of excluded paths.

[062] - SMB for FUSE 0.8.2
by Vincent Wagelaar (http://freshmeat.net/users/vwagelaar/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 00:24
Communications :: File Sharing
System :: Filesystems
System :: Networking
About: SMB for FUSE is a Network Neighborhood (Samba shares) filesystem.
It works like smbfs, but instead of accessing one share at a time, all
computers and workgroups are accessible at once from a single filesystem
mount, making network browsing just as easy as it is on Windows.
Changes: The release adds compatibility with libsmbclient 3.0.20, makes
sure the program works when it's not installed in $PATH, and fixes
permissions of the cache and pid file.

[065] - Task Coach 0.49
by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 14:09
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do
consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with
composite tasks.
Changes: The previous release did not work on Linux/Mac OSX because of a
platform inconsistency between Windows and Linux. This was fixed. All
(almost 900) unit tests now succeed on Linux (tested on Ubuntu). One
feature was added: task colors can be adjusted via 'Edit' ->
'Preferences'.

[066] - Tellico 1.0.2
by Robby Stephenson (http://freshmeat.net/users/parys/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 17:03
Database
Information Management
About: Tellico is a collection manager for KDE. It includes default
collections for books, bibliographies, comic books, videos, music, video
games, coins, stamps, trading cards, and wines, and also allows custom
collections. Unlimited user-defined fields are allowed. Filters are
available to limit the visible entries by definable criteria. Full
customization for printing is possible through editing the default XSLT
file. It can import CSV, Bibtex, Bibtexml, RIS, MODS, CDDB, and audio file
metadata and exports CSV, HTML, Bibtex, Bibtexml, ONIX, and PilotDB.
Entries may be imported directly from Amazon.com, imdb.com, any z39.50
bibliographic server, PubMed, or an external script.
Changes: The IMDb search was updated. A bug in the MARC format
auto-detection for z39.50 searching was fixed. CSV files using delimiters
other than a comma are properly parsed, and the entry selection in the
icon view updates the GUI appropriately.

of code) that features higher-order functions, classes/inheritance,
delegation, tail recursion, generators, cooperative threads, exception
handling, reference counting and garbage collection on demand. It has a
C-like syntax.
Changes: Some 64-bit incompatibilities, a minor bug in the stdlib format()
function, and a bug in dofile() that was preventing compilation of empty
files have been fixed. The APIs sq_poptop() and sq_getfreevariable() have
been added. There are some performance improvements.

[068] - VCG Metro 4.06
by cignoni (http://freshmeat.net/users/cignoni/)
Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 17:05
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Metro is a tool designed to evaluate the difference between two
triangular meshes by computing the Hausdorff distance between the two
surfaces. Metro adopts an approximated approach based on surface sampling
and point-to-surface distance computation. The tool has been widely used
in the surface simplification research community (more than 140 citations
according to google scholar). The tool is built using the VCG library.
Changes: This release changes the core for distance computation. It uses
the library flexible search structures. Now the comparison can be done
exploiting a static uniform grid, a hashed grid, or a hierarchy of AA
boxes.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Walker is a Python script that updates entire Web sites. It matches
the remote site to your local copy using FTP. Once you set it up, it will
upload any files that have changed in size, delete any remote files or
directories you have deleted locally, and create any remote directories
you have added locally. The default deletion of files and directories can
be overridden on the command line. Walker allows you to update your entire
site by going online and then running one command in a terminal. It also
includes Scpper.py, which updates a site in a similar manner using scp.
Changes: Documentation and install fixes.

Sun, Oct 2nd 2005 02:20
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering
About: wview is an application that controls a Davis Vantage Pro or
Vantage Pro2 weather station console to retrieve archive records and
current conditions. Archive records may optionally be stored in a
relational database (MySQL or PostgreSQL). At a user-defined interval,
wview will use the archive history and current conditions to generate
weather images (buckets and graphs) and Web pages based on configurable
HTML templates. It supports serial and USB data loggers, as well as
connectivity with a terminal server or serial server via TCP sockets.
Changes: A potential divide-by-zero bug in the vpifGetRXCheck function was
fixed. Better data integrity checking was added to the computed data
utilities. A Debian start script was added. Generation of a simple current
