Communications
Internet
Security
About: Divmod Vertex is an implementation of Q2Q, a protocol for opening
authenticated connections, even through NAT. It allows a user to reliably
demonstrate their identity (for distributed authentication) and receive
real-time data directly from other users, and provides a mechanism for a
user to decide whether they want to expose their IP address to a third
party before accepting a peer-to-peer connection. It is byte-stream
oriented and application-agnostic. Any peer-to-peer application can use
Q2Q to open connections and deliver messages.
Changes: Gin was replaced with PTCP for increased reliability. Focus on
the standalone Q2Q server was increased. A simple GTK+ 2-based
demonstration application is now included. Many bugs were fixed.

[009] - gcx 0.9.5
by Radu Corlan (http://freshmeat.net/users/rcorlan/)
Sat, Oct 15th 2005 16:37
Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
About: GCX provides a complete set of data-reduction functions for CCD
photometry, with frame WCS fitting, automatic target identification,
aperture photometry of target and standard stars, single-frame ensemble
photometry data reduction, multi-frame color coefficient fitting,
extinction coefficient fitting, and all-sky photometry. It also controls
CCD cameras and telescopes, and implements automatic observation
scripting. Cameras are controlled through a hardware-specific server, to
which gcx connects through a TCP socket. The program can control
telescopes which use the LX200 protocol, and refine pointing by matching
images to the GSC catalog position of stars. It generates FITS files with
comprehensive header information.
Changes: This release adds an option to automatically select or generate
recipe files when reducing a list of different targets. A command allowing
trial photometry of a frame was added to the CCD reduction dialog. Several
bugfixes have been incorporated.

About: The Heirloom Documentation Tools package provides troff, nroff, and
related utilities to format manual pages and other documents for output on
terminals and printers. They are portable and enhanced versions of the
utilities released by Sun as part of OpenSolaris, which are a variant of
ditroff, which, in turn, descends from the historical Unix troff. While
consuming relatively few system resources, troff provides advanced
typographical features such as kerning, tracking, and hanging characters.
Internationalized hyphenation, international paper sizes, and UTF-8 input
are supported.
Changes: Bugfixes were made to the output of kerning information in
"otfdump", to mounting fonts in "troff", to the handling of TrueType fonts
in "troff" and "dpost", and to the handling of large tables and many "T{"

[017] - Internet DJ Console 0.5.3
by Stephen Fairchild (http://freshmeat.net/users/psoriasis/)
Sat, Oct 15th 2005 16:30
About: Internet DJ console is a graphical shoutcast/icecast client that
runs under GTK+ and the JACK audio connection kit. In short, it's an
Internet radio app for making a live radio show or podcast. Features
include two main media players with a crossfader, a jingle player,
microphone signal processing (compressor and noise gate), IRC track
announcements with X-Chat, an automatic stream shut-off timer, MP3 or Ogg
streaming and recording at various bit rates, aux input for connecting
external JACK aware applications, and audio level meters.
Changes: Fadeout was added for tracks that you stop early. (This is off by
default.) Ducking reduction was added on the main and jingles volume
controls, since it is needed increasingly less as the volume is turned
down. The jingles player now shuts down according to the number of audio
samples left to play rather than from a timer.

[018] - JEROME Fabric 0.0.2a
by Adam Turk (http://freshmeat.net/users/biggerUniverse/)
Sat, Oct 15th 2005 07:44
About: The JEROME Fabric is an alternative to Jini. It is not designed to
be an exact reimplementation of Jini, but if Sun ever releases Jini under
a less stringent licence, JEROME Fabric could be dropped in favor of Jini
fairly easily. JEROME Fabric is much lighter than Jini, and does not
support all of the functionality. However, it does offer the same basic
capabilities of service discovery and remote method invocation.
Changes: This release adds ServiceStoreServer (which must handle leases
and expiring services), adds LeaseRenewalManager and associated
functionality, and fixes missing Lease information, a NullPointerException
which occurred when making remote calls with a null arg, only one function
being allowed, and ServiceID not serializing to a file, nor loading from a
file.
