[005] - Axiomatic Multi-Platform C 1.3.0
by napi (http://freshmeat.net/users/napi/)
Fri, Oct 14th 2005 04:51
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Axiomatic Multi-Platform C (AMPC) is a C compiler suite with an IDE
that generates Java bytecode to produce platform independent applicatons.
It supports a very large subset of ANSI C (1989). It can be used to
develop new applications using C as well as port existing applications
written in C to run on JVM enabled devices. A JNI (JVM Native Interface)
feature is available for calling native C or C++ functions. Also, many
Java methods can be called from AMPC. The asm() directive can be used to
embed Jasmin assembly code within C source code. It is useful for writing
new applications using existing C skill-sets and porting C programs.
Changes: Network APIs (TCP/IP) are now available for AMPC. The manual was
also updated.

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.
Changes: Much effort has gone into the evolution-brutus (e-b) IMAPISession
proxy daemon. It now has the capability to support multiple simultaneous
Exchange accounts in Evolution on multible Exchange servers. Any number of
Exchange mailboxes is therefore possible for any e-b user. Brutus Server
now logs basic startup and shutdown messages to the NT Application Event
Log. Catastrophic failures are also logged there if the Brutus logging
server has yet to be activated.

by Pedro Larroy (http://freshmeat.net/users/pedro_larroy/)
Fri, Oct 14th 2005 13:25
Internet
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
About: debian-multimirror is a tool that eases and automates the creation
and maintenance of custom Debian mirrors by mirroring only what you need.
You can choose what packages to mirror, and include or exclude them based
in regular expressions. It uses parallel programming to exploit redundancy
between mirrors and download from several mirrors at the same time for best
performance and less mirror load. A custom algorithm is used to select a
consistent set of packages, and out of sync or even broken mirrors can
still be used. SHA1 and MD5 package information is used to assure data
integrity. It uses an XML file for configuration of the local mirror, and
writes the correspondent "Package" files after finishing mirroring.
Changes: This release handles mirroring of those source packages that
correspond with the mirrored binaries.

by Andreas S. Krebs (http://freshmeat.net/users/krebs/)
Fri, Oct 14th 2005 16:35
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
About: jsgal is a dynamic Web-based gallery. However, rather than
generating the gallery pages on a server using scripts, it is implemented
in Javascript and DHTML and generates the pages in the client's browser.
No offline generation of the Web pages is required; only a list of images
has to be maintained, which allows easy updating and extending of
galleries. This allows you to host dynamic galleries on servers without
scripting support, or on local filesystems (e.g. CD-ROMs).

updating images in Opera. It adds support for navigation to an image using
the image number.

[064] - Radiance 3.7.2 (Stable)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Fri, Oct 14th 2005 16:34
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Radiance is a set of tools which provide an advanced lighting
simulation software package. It allows very detailed definition of
materials' and light sources' properties through the use of advanced
techniques like brdf and ies files, as well as a powerful mathematical
scripting language, resulting in accurate renderings of scenes which are
usually imported from CAD and 3D modelers. It uses the hybrid approach of
Monte Carlo and deterministic ray tracing to achieve a reasonably accurate
result in a reasonable time.
Changes: Fixes bugs in source occluder cache, source drawing routines for
rpict, pcond's acuity simulation for small view angles, reporting of
non-surface in set, calculation of diffuse transmission in the presence of
pure specular (Fresnel reflection) using "trans" material, source
primitives using illum, 16-bit/channel TIFF i/o, rcalc with the -l option,
and bounding box computation for cones. Minor code cleanups and speed-ups.
This release uses SSH instead of RSH for networked operations.

[071] - textbender 0.0.2
by Michael Allan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mcallan/)
Fri, Oct 14th 2005 01:38
Artistic Software
Communications
Text Processing
About: Textbender is a toolkit for collaborative writing based on
structures and methods derived from nature. Structures include a genetic
code, populations, and a gene pool. A text is encoded with genetic markup
and then distributed out to writers to form a population of copies and a
gene pool of variations. Writers communicate by recombination - they make
contributions to the pool and they draw on the contributions of others. In
the course of their interactions they conduct a search through the design
space and the text evolves.
Changes: Graphical tools for the desktop were introduced, along with a
staged walk-through in the end-user documentation. The genetic code was
improved. Its mark-up overhead was reduced. Its abstract/canonical
sequences are no longer centrally defined. A Web service for querying the
gene pool was added. The component and assembly build/deploy scripts have
been reworked. They now support packaged (JAR/WAR) deployment. Darcs is
now used as a distributed repository sytem. The old CVS repository is
frozen.

version is installed. A problem with long startup time has been fixed. Now
only downloads the list at startup if max downloads is set to less than
500. The problem with selecting the incorrect modality if search was used
after selecting a (radio) favorite has been fixed.

[078] - XMLLiterate 1.0.0.5
by Paul Hamilton (http://freshmeat.net/users/phamtec/)
Fri, Oct 14th 2005 06:32
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Documentation
About: XMLLiterate is framework for literate programming using XML. It
uses the STL and patterns extensively and runs on all platforms supported
by Boost.
Changes: This release adds "web" and "webtangle" for implementations to
more closely follow the original WEB system designed and implemented by
Donald Knuth. Please note that none of the major features of WEB and CWEB
are implemented yet; this is just an initial step. The type system has
been rewritten using new "typeimpls" in each object to describe an
implementation of a type. This release adds generation of tests from an
object and lots of XSL fixes. Projects can now safely be defined outside
the cppliterate folder. The system should be able to handle multiple
languages now.
