[002] - Active port forwarder 0.7.4
by jeremian (http://freshmeat.net/users/jeremian/)
Mon, Nov 7th 2005 17:26
System :: Networking
About: Active port forwarder uses SSL for secure packet tunneling. It is
designed for people without an external IP who want to make some services
available on the Internet. afserver is placed on the machine with a
publicly accessible address, and afclient is placed on the machine behind
a firewall or masquerade. This makes the second machine visible to the
Internet. Running afserver does not require root priviledges, nor does it
use other processes. Zlib is used to compress the transferred data.
Changes: This release adds several new options and a config file for
afclient. A lot of bugfixes and code rewrites were made.

Games/Entertainment
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Allegro is a multi-platform game library for C/C++ developers that
provides many functions for graphics, sounds, player input (keyboard,
mouse, and joystick), and timers. It also provides fixed and floating
point mathematical functions, 3D functions, file management functions,
compressed datafile, and a GUI.
Changes: Fixmul() detects overflows, as it used to do in the 4.0.x branch.
A bug in the fixbundle Mac OS X utility has been fixed. Problems with the
mouse position as reported by Allegro and the mouse position as known to
Mac OS X have been fixed. Problems with joysticks under MacOS X have been
fixed. Loading of multiple ranges in a single bitmap with txt fonts has
been fixed. The fileselector in Unix not properly recognising filenames
containing UTF-8 characters has been fixed. DGA auto-detection under X11
is disabled. A fix-point overflow in pivot_sprite() and several problems
with the Watcom compiler have been fixed.

[005] - Big Faceless PDF Library 2.6.3

(http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
Mon, Nov 7th 2005 05:24
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Office/Business
About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, spot and
calibrated color.
Changes: setTextValue and getTextValue were added to WidgetAnnotation to
better handle Checkbox and Radio Buttons in XFA forms. Some related XFA
bugfixes were made. Drastic reductions were made in the size of the
PostScript generated when printing under some circumstances, due to fonts
being rendered as fonts rather than shapes where possible. Currently, this
is only done for non-embedded fonts, due to bugs in Java printing.
RenderingHints were added to the PDFParser.writeAsTIFF and PagePainter
classes to control rendering settings.

Documentation
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: The Big Faceless Report Generator is a Java application for
converting source documents written in XML to PDF. Built on top of the Big
Faceless PDF & Graph Libraries, the Report Generator combines these
features and wraps an XML parser around them. Using JSP, ASP, XSL, or
similar, creating dynamic PDF documents directly from a database is now as
easy as HTML.
Changes: The requirement to have SystemId specified for all InputSources
was removed. If a relative URL is encountered during parsing, then an
error will be thrown. The pagenumber and totalpages definitions were fixed
in the DTD. Bookmarks pointing to nodes split at the end of a page were
failing and have now been fixed. Improvements were made to CSS parsing.
This release is built with PDF library 2.6.3 and Graph library 1.1.6.

[007] - bit 0.1.25
by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
Mon, Nov 7th 2005 01:47
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Widget Sets
About: bit is a library that makes it easier to dynamically manipulate
data buffers containing fields that do not have octet (byte) boundaries.
An example is the IP header, which is generally dealt with at compile time
via bit fields in a structure. A key feature of the bit library is support
for loading data formats described in XML files and dynamically parsing
those fields at run time. This library was initially created to support
reading various kinds of robotic device I/O (IR sensors, motors), but it
has also been used for run time parsing of IP, TCP, UDP, and RTP headers.
Changes: This is a fairly functional, but still unstable release.

[008] - BitEvolution 0.9f
by Scott Gillette (http://freshmeat.net/users/scottagillette/)
Mon, Nov 7th 2005 23:42
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: BitEvolution is an easy-to-use client/server application that you
can use to keep your distributed application up to date. Modeled after the
Apache ANT project, it is a task-based application intended to eliminate
the work required to write, test, and debug a home-grown update
application. Your distributed application does not have to be written in
Java to take advantage of BitEvolution.
Changes: An UpdateNotifier class that can be used to notify the user or a
registered listener of new updates that are available was added. The
server configuration file was updated to be able to specifiy the number of
worker threads to use. A server throttling configuration attribute was
added to the server configuration file. The overhead of messages to and
from the server was optimized along with the amount of information
transmitted to the client when checking for a new version.

About: Cayenne is a free object-relational persistence framework written
in Java. Its goal is to make development of database Java applications
faster and more consistent with the Object Oriented Programming concept.
Some of the ideas used in Cayenne have been inspired by the persistence
mechanism of NeXT's (and now Apple's) WebObjects application server.
Changes: This release includes support for peer-to-peer communications
between Cayenne applications via the XMPP instant messaging protocol,
DbAdapter auto-detection, native handling of JDK 1.5 Enums, and a number
of bugfixes.

by Scott Pakin (http://freshmeat.net/users/pakin/)
Mon, Nov 7th 2005 11:01
Communications
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Benchmark
About: coNCePTuaL is a domain-specific programming language for rapidly
generating programs that measure the performance and/or test the
correctness of networks and network protocol layers. A few lines of
coNCePTuaL code can produce programs that would take significantly more
effort to write in a conventional programming language.
Changes: An NCPTL_LOG_DELAY environment variable adds jitter to all
filesystem operations; useful when a filesystem can't handle tens of
thousands of simultaneous accesses. logmerge accepts directory arguments.
The BACKEND EXECUTES command executes even when output is suppressed. The
implementation of COMPUTES FOR is now more precise on platforms that can
directly read the CPU cycle counter. The FOR...REPETITIONS construct is
unrolled to reduce run-time overhead. This release uses a 64-bit Mersenne
Twister. "logextract --extract=warnings" extracts warning messages. The
code builds on MinGW.

accurate, and should not display things like 123,00000000001 anymore.
INPUT and LINE INPUT deal with non-ASCII characters correctly now. In the
QT component, the DblClick event is now posted, and not raised immediately
as before. X11 input methods are correctly managed. The MySQL driver now
correctly returns if an index is unique.

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: Schema Crawler is a platform (OS and database) independent command
line tool to output your database schema and data in a readable form. The
output is designed to be diff-ed with previous versions of your database
schema. Schema Crawler is also an API that improves on standard JDBC
metadata.
Changes: The ability to include as well as exclude tables and columns
using regular expressions was added. A new substitution variable,
${columns}, was added for use in database queries that iterate over
tables. New examples for executing database-specific and user-defined
queries have been added. Output formatting for HTML dumps and counts in
text format were improved. An issue with the Sybase driver in which
primary keys are provided in a different order than most other drivers was
worked around.

[074] - SchemaSpy 2.0.0
by John Currier (http://freshmeat.net/users/johncurrier/)
Mon, Nov 7th 2005 00:21
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
About: SchemaSpy is a Java-based tool that analyzes the metadata of a
schema in a database and generates a visual representation of it in a
browser-displayable format. It lets you click through the hierarchy of
database tables via child and parent table relationships. Browsing through
relationships can occur though HTML links and/or though the graphical
representation of the relationships. It's also designed to help resolve
the obtuse errors that a database sometimes gives related to failures due
to constraints.
Changes: SchemaSpy now uses a tabbed layout that results in a
significantly cleaner page. You now have the ability to explicitly exclude
columns from the relationship analysis using a regular expression notation.
Information was added in the graphs about how many "parent" and "child"
tables are related to a given table. Support for HSQLDB and DB2 UDB Type 4
drivers was added. SchemaSpy now generates the .dot files using the UTF-8
character set. SchemaSpy currently supports Oracle, DB2, UDB, SQL Server,
MySQL, PostgreSQL, HSQLDB, and Sybase.

[078] - Stunnix JS-Obfus 3.0
by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
Mon, Nov 7th 2005 11:04
Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.
Changes: The JavaScript Obfuscator/Encoder perfectly detects locations at
which statements are terminated, and automatically inserts a semicolon if
it's missing, using an external JavaScript parser implemented in C. The
'm' modifier is now recognized for regular expressions. The <asp:XXX>
family of ASP.NET tags is now correctly handled in asp.net (.aspx) files.
Now the GUI can run on more Windows boxes with incorrectly-implemented
firewalls due to upgrading to the latest version of Stunnix Perl Web
Server. Support has been added for switching encoding options using a
pickup list in the GUI.

Software Development :: Version Control
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: svninfo is used to extract the revision and file information
provided by the Subversion revision control system. To present the
version information of a document, one needs to extract it from some kind
of text inserted by the revision control system. Subversion offers
therefore the Id keyword, which is expanded by the Subversion update
command and contains a lot of useful information. This information is
made available through this package.
Changes: This release adds new package options for generating the
page-footer with eso-pic and scrpage2. It also adds support for the
'draft' and 'final' options, and fixes a problem with `\_' in file names.
