About: Apache XML-RPC is a Java implementation of XML- RPC, a popular

Apache XML- RPC was previously known as Helma XML-RPC.
Changes: This branch is a proposal for Apache XML-RPC v3. Compared to its
predecessor, it enables the use of modern SAX 2 parsers, Java collections,
and maps. While this version still complies to the XML-RPC specification by
default, it offers several extensions with interesting features. Both
client and server support a streaming mode, where almost no memory is
buffered. Compression of requests and responses is supported. Finally, a
lot of extended data types are available, including NULL, all Java
primitives, DOM fragments, JAXB elements, or instances of
java.io.Serializable.

About: ArchLog is a log-oriented GUI for the Arch revision control system.
It allows you to take notes as you hack, structuring the changes by
categories. At commit time, ArchLog will generate a consistently and
nicely-formatted log file. It features assigning new versions to a project
tree, adding/removing files for a project, packing a project into archives
(tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar, zip), a todo manager with categorized tasks, global
or per-project preferences, TODO file generation, and full customization
from the GUI.

Software Development :: Version Control
About: ArX is a flexible, high performance, distributed revision control
system featuring whole-tree atomic changesets, easy branching, and
sophisticated merging. ArX has always been self hosting.
Changes: ArX now uses three-way merging as a default, and supports third
party merge tools. ArX is also much more clever about renames. "merge" now
uses the --update option instead of using heuristics. ArX now records when
there are conflicts in the tree, and will not let you commit unless they
are resolved. ArX now uses -v and -q for verbosity. "commit" now supports
--author and --date options for Tailor. The patch queue manager has been
updated, and some small bugs were fixed.

[015] - ccbuild 1.5.1
by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
Sat, Nov 19th 2005 21:23
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and builds them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Deployment and distribution should still be done with other tools. It can
create simple Makefiles, A-A-P files, and graph dependencies using DOT
(graphviz) graphs.
Changes: Some XML output options have been added, although only the check
command can produce it. All objects, except the main program, are now
archived before linking, which makes for smaller binaries.

About: DMO is generic object management, documentation, and inventory
software. It enforces defining an abstract hierarchical structure for the
data stored, making object management very intuitive. All the data in a
company can be stored in a structured manner, from hard disks, computers,

very clean code make DMO a very powerful tool.
Changes: This is a major new release of DMO, which makes it much easier to
install. XAMPP is used to provide the LAMP environment required. A major
overhaul was done in the past two years, adding access restrictions

timestamps, renames images according to the Exif timestamp, extracts and
inserts Exif and Iptc metadata and JPEG comments, or deletes the thumbnail
or a specific type of metadata from an image.
Changes: This release adds support for Canon RAW files (read-only for

[024] - fairly fast packet filter 1.5b0
by Willem de Bruijn (http://freshmeat.net/users/wdebruij/)
Sat, Nov 19th 2005 21:13
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: The fairly fast packet filter (FFPF) is an approach to network
packet processing that adds many new features to existing filtering
solutions like BPF. It is designed for high speed by pushing
computationally intensive tasks to the kernel or even network processors
and by minimising packet copying. By providing both a richer programming
language and explicit extensibility, it is also considerably more
flexible than existing approaches. It provides a complete solution for
network monitoring that caters to all applications available today. Using
its extensibility, the language can even be used as a meta- filter to
"script" together filters from other approaches, such as BPF.
Changes: This version is the first prelease of a complete rewrite. The
previous branch contained data structures and algorithms that proved
fatally flawed. Not all functionality has been ported yet, so this is more
of a demonstration of what's to come.

About: fli4l is a single-floppy Linux-based ISDN/DSL/ethernet-router. It
features configuration with some simple ASCII-files, several possible
connection-flavors (in/out/callback, and raw IP/PPP), channel bundling (an
extra channel can be added through a Windows/Unix-client), configuration of
multiple networks, least-cost routing, automatic choice of provider,
display/calculation of connection times and costs, and a Windows/Unix
client to control dial/hangup, monitor traffic and monitor incoming calls
on ISDN (see screenshot).
Changes: The most visible change of this release is the reworked Web
interface. Most user interfaces (Win-IMONC, administration menu, Web
interface) are now available in German, English, French, and Dutch. There
now is a new package to run fli4l inside a Xen domain. Some minor software
updates include uClibc 0.9.28 (with LFS), a kernel with IPv6 support,
dnsmasq 2.23, chrony 2.0.2, syslinux 3.11, ipppd 3.7 (mschap-support

[034] - Kernel Socks Bouncer 0.0.4
by Paolo Ardoino (http://freshmeat.net/users/binduck/)
Sat, Nov 19th 2005 07:59
About: KSB26 (Kernel Socks Bouncer) is Linux Kernel 2.6.x loadable module
that redirects TCP connections (to user-defined target hosts) through
SOCKS 4/5 chains in a completely transparent way. It uses a character
device to pass SOCKS 4/5 and the target IP addresses to the Linux kernel.
This is obviously quite useful if you want to transparently tunnel certain
things through a given proxy to remain anonymous, or if you want to be able
to sniff certain network traffic transparently.
Changes: This release adds a small bugfix and support for a default socks
list in ksb26manager (useful if you use TOR).

[037] - LibCMT 0.0.3
by Duilio Protti (http://freshmeat.net/users/dprotti/)
Sat, Nov 19th 2005 02:35

About: LibCMT (Composable Memory Transactions Library) implements a
transactional model of concurrency, where deadlock is not possible and
transactions are composable (small transactions can be glued together to
form larger transactions without extra effort). It is written as a Glib
extension but can be used with any thread library, not just GThread.
Changes: Many errors were fixed, configure options were added, the
signature of g_transaction_new() was changed, and g_transaction_set_func()
was removed. Macros for manipulating a transaction's private field were
added. g_transaction_do() and g_transaction_retry() are now more

[038] - lpr-bash 0.9
by Alex Kloss (http://freshmeat.net/users/LX/)
Sat, Nov 19th 2005 12:57
System :: Hardware
About: lpr-bash is a replacement for the "lpr" command found in lpr(ng),
CUPS, and other Unix printing systems. It is implemented as a shell
script. Originally designed to run on LinuxFromScratch, and later ported
to gentoo, it should work with virtually any flavor of Linux or Unix, and
maybe even Mac OS X.
Changes: This is a complete rewrite. A single script is now used for lpr,
lprm, lpq, lpstat, etc. The size was reduced by about half. lpq and lprm
have finally become useful, especially when using preview. The printcap
format was changed to a subset of the standard format. lpr is now
nonblocking. Locking was improved. Syslog(-ng) is used by default. Exit
codes were implemented. The ability to test a printer with a prototype
test page was added.

[055] - sg_utils and sg3_utils 1.18 (Linux 2.4)
by Douglas Gilbert (http://freshmeat.net/users/dpgilbert/)
Sat, Nov 19th 2005 08:28
About: sg_utils and sg3_utils are packages that contain tools for working
with devices that use the SCSI command set. They include variants of the
Unix dd command called sg_dd and sgp_dd that speed copies to, from, and
between SCSI disks and CDROMs. sg_map and sg_scan supply information about
SCSI devices and how they are related to other drivers. There are utilities
for timing and testing SCSI devices and retrieving mode and log page data.
The sg3_utils package is for the Linux 2.4 and 2.6 series, while sg_utils
is for the 2.2 series with some support for the 2.0 series.
Changes: This release adds an sg_map26 utility for mapping between a
primary SCSI device node and the corresponding sg node (or vice versa).
sg_map26 assumes sysfs, hence is only applicable to the 2.6 Linux kernel
series. sg_dd now takes iflag and oflag options similar to those found in
recent GNU dd versions. "sg_inq -rr" now outputs an ATA IDENTIFY response
in a form suitable for "hdparm --Istdin" to decode.
