[001] - aeon music player 0.2
by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
Sun, Nov 20th 2005 20:59
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
About: aeon is a player that is meant to look nice and have an interface
that is as easy to use as possible. In contrast to players like XMMS/bmp,
noatun, etc., you can only play files from the library (akin to
RhythmBox/iTunes).
Changes: Major fixes of the build system have been made, and all build
warnings have been fixed (using gcc 3.3.5). This release introduces no new
features, but is rather a pure cleanup release for the rather rusty aeon
code that was laying unmaintained for mostly a year. It should now
properly build on all systems that have the dependencies installed.

Sun, Nov 20th 2005 07:59
Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
About: Aleph One is a 3D first-person shooter game based on the game
Marathon 2 by Bungie Software. It is set in a Sci-Fi universe dominated by
deviant computer AIs and features a well thought-out plot. Aleph One was
originally a MacOS game, but a cross-platform version ("Aleph One/SDL")
based on the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) library is currently under
development which runs under Unix, BeOS, and Windows.
Changes: This version is based on a new upstream release with improved
Internet gaming, Lua scripting support, and lots of bugfixes.

[004] - Asterisk 1.2.0
by Mark Spencer (http://freshmeat.net/users/markster/)
Sun, Nov 20th 2005 03:35
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Asterisk is a hybrid TDM and packet voice PBX (Private Branch
eXchange) and IVR platform with ACD functionality. It acts as middleware
between the Internet (IAX, SIP, MGCP, Skinny, H.323), telephony channels
(like Zaptel, T1, PRI, E1, FXO, FXS, VoIP, VoFR, ISDN, modems, Internet
Phone Jack, etc.), and applications (like voice-mail, conferencing,
directories, MP3 players, intercoms, etc.). It has many advanced features
such as a codec translation API. The base distribution includes several
channel backends, as well as applications. However, the beauty of Asterisk
is its ability to be extended using its APIs, dynamic module loader, and
AGI scripting interface. End users can even write their own applications
that run on the system in C or any scripting language of their choice.
Changes: This is a major release, including realtime database support,
improved SIP interoperability and features, voicemail improvements, DUNDi,
and much more.

[005] - atli 0.1.3
by linxs (http://freshmeat.net/users/linxs/)
Sun, Nov 20th 2005 20:58
Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing
About: Atli is a scripting language interpreter originally meant to be a
quick way to develop a particular application's scripting language. Atli
can also be used to write shell-like scripts to do tasks. Atli is a weakly
typed language in which variables do not need to be declared before use.
All variables are stored as strings and converted between string and
number form automatically. Atli provides interfaces to cooperate with
applications, so applications can exchange data and instructions with atli
through a callback function.
Changes: Some overflow bugs are fixed. The keyword "load" has been added
to load dynamic libraries on Windows or Linux. This release differentiates
among atli-function-call, lib-function-call, and application-function-call.
It calls the types function in lib: double function-name (double).

by labrum (http://freshmeat.net/users/labrum/)
Sun, Nov 20th 2005 14:10
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
About: audiokonverter is a small utility to easily convert from OGG, MP3,
AAC, M4A, FLAC, WMA, RealAudio, Musepack, Wavpack, WAV, and movies to MP3,
OGG, M4A, WAV, and FLAC in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It needs
oggenc, oggdec, faac, faad, flac, mplayer, wvunpack, and lame to work.
id3lib, metaflac, and vorbis-tools are optional, but needed for full
functionality.
Changes: Lossy to lossless format conversions have been removed; they are
useless. Import from Musepack and Wavpack has been added. For savvy users,
the command line offers more possibilities than the service menu. Hidden
limited support for monkey, optimfrog, and shorten has been added.

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: Cyphesis is a fantasy MMORPG server (and NPC engine for servers)
using AI/A-Life techniques which doesn't have a predefined story. It is
the Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Life server/client used by the
WorldForge project.
Changes: Notification of victory or defeat in combat is now sent to the
client in a way that is easier for the player to understand. Entity IDs
are now indexed as integers, which should give better performance
scalability. Entities now inherit attributes from their parent class,
making inheritance more intuitive for world builders. The ability to flush
entities from the server in bulk has been added to the admin client.
Routine errors like authentication failures are no longer reported in the
logs. Many bugs have been fixed.

About: DACS provides access control and user authentication functionality
for Apache. It can also be run as a command by any program or script to
make data-driven access control decisions rather than code-driven ones.
Changes: The major change is the new dacscheck(1) command, which provides
simplified, platform-independent, general-purpose access to the DACS
access control rule evaluation engine. This feature can be used by any
virtually any application, script (Perl, PHP, shell, etc.), server
software, or CGI program to make data-driven access control decisions
rather than program-driven ones. Other changes of note include many

by David Powers (http://freshmeat.net/users/sdmp7273/)
Sun, Nov 20th 2005 20:51
System :: Monitoring
About: Daedalus provides a simple mechanism for running programs in
response to the output of "check programs". In practice, this is generally
used to provide an automated restart service for programs by checking the
output of "ps axww", and running a start script when a particular program
fails to appear. However, it can be used for any occasion where you want
to automate an action based on an event in the system. Beyond simple
restarting of systems, it can be used to send alerts, clean up files, or
even start one program when another finishes or reaches a certain point.

About: feresPost is a Ruby extension that provides the definition of
classes and modules devoted to the development of automated
post-processing for Nastran finite element results. The library allows
easy manipulation of finite element models, groups, and results. Efficient
post-processing is possible because the time-consuming operations are
written in C/C++.
Changes: op2 reading of results was improved with bugfixes and a
translation from little to big endian and vice versa. The reading of
results is now possible for several versions of Nastran, and op2 files can
be transported across different platforms. The "CTETRA" element is now

Sun, Nov 20th 2005 14:36
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
About: "Jpegpixi" is short for "JPEG pixel interpolator". It is a
command-line utility which interpolates pixels in JFIF images (commonly
refered to as "JPEG images"). This is useful to correct images from a
digital camera with CCD defects. Jpegpixi is unique in that it tries to
preserve the quality of the JFIF image as much as possible. Most graphics
programs decode JFIF images when they are loaded, and re-encode them when
they are saved, which results in an overall loss of quality. Jpegpixi, on
the other hand, does not decode and re-encode the image, but manipulates
the encoded image data, protecting the quality of the image as much as
possible.

by cxl (http://freshmeat.net/users/cxl/)
Sun, Nov 20th 2005 20:53
Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In

preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.
Changes: A major improvement is the Assist++ and C++ support system with
tools for code completion, browsing, and transformation.
