[001] - Alligator 0.3.0
  by Piotr Wolny (http://freshmeat.net/users/rudlig/)
  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 04:06

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Alligator is an RSS aggregator. It supports all RSS formats (Rich
Site Summary, RDF Site Summary, Really Simple Syndication) and Atom. It
has a simple, clean, user-friendly interface and an embedded Gecko-based
browser.

Changes: Now it is possible to reload all feeds at once (on user request
and optionally on startup), to mark entire feed as read or unread, to jump
to the next unread item, to see properties of feeds and items, and to
change a feed name.

[002] - And-httpd 0.99.6
  by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 03:50

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: And-httpd is an HTTP server that maps URLs to files. In other
words, in can take an incoming URL and map it to a file in a number of
ways (for example, according to content type or language). It cannot do
CGI or other kinds of code execution. It cannot even dynamically create
directory listings (although it comes with external tools to do so). It
currently has a $500 "security guarantee" against remote attacks.

Changes: This release adds bug fixes, more coverage, more strictness
checks, translations for error pages, and added local extra detailed
messages on why errors are returned. All tools needed for scons builders
were added: SSI, highlighting C, and automatic directory generation.

features, and the management team can measure progress more readily. It
supports many reposistory adapters, including CVS, VSS (SourceSafe),
Perforce, Clearcase, PVCS, StarTeam, MKSIntegrity, and FileSystem.

Changes: This release has improvements to its PVCS, ClearCase, Visual
SourceSafe, Subversion, Perforce, CVS, BitKeeper, and StarTeam drivers. It
comes bundled with Ant 1.6.4 and also features some UI improvements.

  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 01:55

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording

About: Audacity is a cross-platform multitrack audio editor. It allows you
to record sounds directly or to import Ogg, WAV, AIFF, AU, IRCAM, or MP3
files. It features a few simple effects, all of the editing features you
should need, and unlimited undo. The audio I/O uses PortAudio, which fully
supports OSS, Mac OS X CoreAudio, and Windows WMME, and can be compiled
with support for ALSA and Jack.

Changes: The File menu now includes a list of recent files. The "Generate
Silence" effect now prompts for a length. Dragging files into the Audacity
window now imports them. Better support was added for some audio devices on
Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger." Menu organization was improved. Better error
messages are shown when opening incompatible files. Other minor bugfixes
were made. Several new and updated translations were added.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which allows almost any protocol to
be supported.

Changes: The "Direct Server Return" (DSR) feature has been added. The
manual has been updated to 1.408.0.

  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 04:20

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: BBStatus is an IP accounting package and an SNMP and IP monitoring
tool for Linux. It collects, summarizes, and displays the values from its
database. It can be used for IP accounting (allows you to design various
kinds of accounting filters), SNMP monitoring (collects data making SNMP
requests), ICMP monitoring (stores and summarizes values like min, avg,
max reply time, and packet loss), and client traffic filtering (using
various types of filters). It also provides user based access so that
every user can log in and visualize various data (depending on access
rights). It requires PostgreSQL, Apache with mod_auth_pgsql,
Perl(Net::SNMP), and RRDTool.

Changes: Big performance improvements were made by switching ICMP
monitoring from netping to fping and by doing SNMP monitoring once per
minute for 1/5 of all monitored hosts instead of doing it once every 5
minutes for all hosts. A new and experimental accounting tool that uses
tcpdump was added. Some compatibility issues with newer Linux kernel and
iptables versions were solved. Various minor bugfixes were made.

[010] - BiffLes 0.4
  by Eric Pozharski (http://freshmeat.net/users/whyn0t/)
  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 00:54

Communications :: Email

About: biffles does what does the "procmail" MDA does, but in one run. It
is meant to be used off-line by dial-up clients where mail is fetched via
a nightly cron-job, amassed localy, and then sorted.

Changes: Every outbox with a trigered rule will receive mail. Report mode
was improved: primary statistics are reported, not statistics on amassed
data. The "many mails -- one MessageId" bug was fixed.

[011] - Bind9 SNMP Subagent 1.4

  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 10:47

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Bind9 SNMP Subagent provides indexed BIND 9 statistics via SNMP
output. Data, query, and graph templates are provided for Cacti.

Changes: Completely disables the output of the Index branches. They should
be 'invisible' so they don't interfere with the table(s). The Cacti
templates have been fixed to account for this. All (?) configurable
options have been put into a config file. The MIBDIRS check to determine
whether it is running from the shell or SNMPd was flawed. It only worked
on Debian GNU/Linux. Instead, the OID is set to the correct/real value
when going into the 'get input from STDIN' loop. This is a sure sign of
running through the SNMP system. A missing help() function (referenced,
but didn't exist) was added.

  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 04:15

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: BlueJ is an interactive Java development environment. It provides a
unique user interface that presents a graphical display of the application
classes and their relationships, and it lets users interactively create
objects of any class. Once objects have been created, users can interact
with them directly. This interaction mechanism allows for much greater
testing and experimentation than in conventional environments. BlueJ is
suited for teaching and learning OO and Java.

Changes: This release features major enhancements to the codepad including
the ability to declare and use local variables. Many bugs were fixed.

About: BottomFeeder is an application that reads and displays RSS and
Atom-formatted feeds. RSS and Atom are syndication formats used by a large
number of news sites and Web logs.

Changes: The feed menu was reorganized to make feed modification easier to
access. Support for the "del" key (feeds/folders) was added. Bugfixes were
made in the Network support libraries, which fixes the update block bug.
Bugs were fixed in the item identification code, which should prevent the
spurious return of old items as new. Bugfixes were made to the blog
posting tool's startup. A new Quick Start Guide was added to the
documentation. Bugs in the loading of example feeds from the Web site were
fixed. The startup feeds were modified for new installations. Many small
bugs were fixed elsewhere.

About: configsaver will synchronize your personal configuration files
(such as ~/.vimrc, ~/.bashrc, etc.) using your gmail account. When
configsaver detects that a file has been changed, it prompts you if you
would like to upload your local copy or download the remote copy.

Changes: The session file is now saved with more restrictive permissions.
File information is stored in the message body. The user is given the
option to skip a file. The mtime of the local and remote files are checked
to determine if the default action should be upload or download. Files in

  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 22:56

Database
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Generator is a command line application to facilitate the
construction of small applications that need some database objects. It
isn't a replacement for complex object persistence solutions, like
hibernate or TopLink, but it covers a different target: the little Java
Web applications that don't use sophisticated persistence options.
Generator invocation is simple: just type java -jar generator.jar -xml,
where the config file is an XML config file with the definitions to
connect to the database and generate the bean classes. You can also use
the Ant task.

Changes: The mysql-connector library was updated. Some feature updates
were added, like a generic Update method and the chance to make the null
strings voids.

About: DMO is generic object management, documentation, and inventory
software. It enforces defining an abstract hierarchical structure for the
data stored, making object management very intuitive. All the data in a
company can be stored in a structured manner, from hard disks, computers,
and printers to routers, UPSes, and alarm systems. Powerful querying and
PDF report generation, plugin support, a high level of customization, and
very clean code make DMO a very powerful tool.

Changes: The documentation was updated. A new feature was added to prepare
graphs of dependencies and instance children, based on the GraphViz
software, which should be installed as a prerequsite for this capability.

[036] - Java for C++ 0.1a
  by Stefan Palme (http://freshmeat.net/users/kleiner/)
  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 17:02

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Java for C++ is a tool to generate C++ wrapper classes for existing
Java classes. This tool reads a list of Java class names and creates source
code for C++ classes to wrap them. The implementation of the wrapper
classes uses JNI (Java Native Interface) to call the "real" Java classes.
The C++ API to use these wrapper classes is very close to the API of the
original Java classes. So developers of C++ software can use Java classes
as if they have been implemented in C++.

  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 10:44

Communications
Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management

About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.

Changes: Fixes several bugs in the MySQL single database drivers that
prevented Magellan from working properly in command line mode. The Google
Web driver has been adapted to the new output format from the search
engine. A potential bug in the proxy management system has been fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: ModSecurity is an intrusion detection and prevention engine for Web
applications (sometimes called a Web application firewall). Operating
embedded or as part of an Apache reverse proxy, it increases Web
application security, protecting Web applications from known and unknown
attacks. It is flexible and easy to configure. It monitors HTTP traffic
(including POST payloads), detects or prevents attacks, enhances logging,
performs anti-evasion, and allows administrators to create custom rules to
suit their specific needs. It excels in HTTP traffic monitoring and
just-in-time vulnerability patching.

Changes: The variables OUTPUT and OUTPUT_STATUS are no longer silently
accepted (although they don't do anything) in the Apache 1.3.x version of

[053] - MyDBO Code Generator 1.4
  by Patrick (http://freshmeat.net/users/pbrosset/)
  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 22:01

About: MyDBO is a powerful object-oriented code generator for PHP/MySQL
Web application developers. It is designed to remove the hassle of
implementing familiar database operations (select, update, insert, etc)
over and over again when creating Web applications. It creates code for
accessing your database tables without you having to worry about
connections or SQL queries. It also allows you to approach your database
in an object-oriented fashion, thus giving you real flexibility. It uses
templates to generate code, so it is also possible to create your own
templates.

Changes: A new step was added to the wizard so the user can choose
plug-ins. The <description> tag was added to plugin.xml. A log file is
generated. Variables used for once_per_database templates are also exposed
for once_per_table templates. config.inc was created for use in wizard.php
and generate.php scripts. Parent (foreign keys) object access was added in
collectors. The plugins were rearranged. A method called limit($start,
$length) was added that slices the items array in collectors. "Order by"
and a navigation bar on list pages were added in instantAdmin.

log files for user-specified trigger patterns. When a pattern is seen
enough times in a given file within a given period of time, NoNox will
execute a command. The patterns, time limits, files to watch, and commands
are all user-specified. For example, if NoNox sees too many failed login

About: safox is a simple PHP API for XML handling. It merges the DOM
approach with XML, and it provides a simple, object-oriented API for
PHP-based XML generation, parsing, manupilation, and traversal. SAFOX
provides a generation package and a package that parses XML documents and
returns objects.

Changes: Code cleanup was done. Problems with removing nodes were
corrected. cleanUp methods were added to the XMLDoc Class and the XMLNode
Class. "delete" and "remove" were added as aliases to the "destroy" method
in the XMLNode class. The process of removing nodes was completely redone.

  by Hiroyuki Yamamoto (http://freshmeat.net/users/hiroy/)
  Wed, Nov 30th 2005 03:45

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many
features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and
multipart MIME. One of Sylpheed's future goals is to be fully
internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be
able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.

Changes: The common preferences dialog was reorganized. The memory usage
on SMTP and POP3 sessions was reduced drastically. The last position of
the composition window is remembered, and the windows are automatically
placed so that they don't overlap. Filtered sent messages are not put into
the Sent folder anymore. When attached text files are saved, their
linebreaks are normalized depending on platforms. The occasional encoding
conversion failure bug on inserting a text file into the composition
window was fixed.

About: xmms-crossfade is an output plugin for XMMS. Its main feature is
automatic crossfading. It also removes the gaps between tracks, to play
whole MP3 albums without any audible interruption. xmms-crossfade supports
OSS via a builtin driver, and any other platform by using existing output
plugins. As of version 0.3.9, the Audacious and BMP players are also
supported.

Changes: Support for the Beep Media Player and Audacious players was
added. Patches were added for supported players. These patches provide
hooks for XMMS-crossfade, which are used for querying information about
the current state of XMMS. With this information, it is possible to
provide more reliable songchange detection, which should fix broken
crossfades when playing songs from slow media. This should also fix the
segfault-on-exit bug that many users have been encountering. Finally,
XMMS-crossfade should now compile using GCC4.

About: ZK is an AJAX/XUL Web framework designed to enable Web applications
to have both rich user experiences and a simple programming model. It
includes an AJAX-based event-driven engine to automate interactivity and a
rich set of XUL-based components.

Changes: The com.potix.zhtml package was added (as zhtml.jar). The html
namespace is independent of zul. You can make any HTML page ready for
Ajax. See http://localhost/zkdemo/test/test.zhtml for an example. A
filter, DHtmlLayoutFilter, was added to post-process HTML tags that might
be generated by any servlet, including JSP, JSF, and Struct.

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: smf-zombie is a Sendmail filter designed to reject spam and viruses
from zombie PCs. This filter blocks up to 90% of the mail sent by
spam/virus engines, checks the sender's IP address with a reliable RBL
(cbl.abuseat.org), safely rejects "alien" bounces without violating any
RFC, rejects messages for undisclosed recipients, and rejects harmful
attachments to prevent a virus from spreading. This filter aims to be
lightweight, reliable, and simple.

Changes: Successfully authenticated senders will now bypass the filtering.
Cosmetic enhancements were made.
