Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: The main part of av_convert is a C++ API for accessing audio/video
files (AVI, Quicktime, YUV4MPEG stream, WAV, etc.). This functionality is
provided by a library and a set of plugin modules for I/O backends and
audio/video codecs. Using this library, "av_convert" can convert between
these file formats and provide basic editing functions, such as cutting
parts of different video sources to one destination. The included program
"av_rec" can record real-time video from a v4l-video-source with A/V sync.

Changes: Compatibility with gcc 4.0 and SPARC64/Linux was improved.

[005] - Botan 1.4.10 (Stable)
  by Jack Lloyd (http://freshmeat.net/users/randombit/)
  Sun, Dec 18th 2005 17:34

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Botan is a library of cryptographic algorithms written in C++. It
includes a wide selection of block and stream ciphers, public key
algorithms, hash functions, and message authentication codes. It has an
easy-to-use filter interface and supports many common industry standards,
including X.509v3.

Changes: This release adds KASUMI, the block cipher used in 3G mobile
phones. Pipe has been refactored, and empty messages in a Pipe no longer
take up any memory whatsoever. Certain facilities of Filter have been
restricted to subclasses of the new Fanout_Filter. Several cleanups were
performed, particularly with regards to header usage. Minor build problems
for a couple of modules on NetBSD and Mac OS X were resolved. This is the
first release for which a commercial support contract is available.

[027] - kbarcode 1.9.8 (Development)
  by Dominik Seichter (http://freshmeat.net/users/domseichter/)
  Sun, Dec 18th 2005 17:23

Office/Business
Printing

About: KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It
can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex
labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes
with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import of
labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined labels,
database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even
printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode.
Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of
barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are
supported.

Changes: There are new [col] and [row] tokens in this release, and line
spacing in text fields is now 1 instead of 1.5. Bar codes without text
work again, as well as user defined fields without a value. Many more
minor fixes and improvements. Upgrading is strongly recommended.

[033] - MoSSHe 1.3.10
  by Volker Tanger (http://freshmeat.net/users/vtanger/)
  Sun, Dec 18th 2005 17:31

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: MoSSHe (MOnitoring with SSH Environment) is a simple, lightweight
(both in size and system requirements) server monitoring package designed
for secure and in-depth monitoring of a number of typical Internet
systems. It was developed to keep the impact on network and performance
low, and to use a safe, encrypted connection for in-depth inspection of
the system checked. It is not possible to remotely run (more or less
arbitrary) commands via the monitoring system, nor is unsafe cleartext
SNMP messaging necessary (yet possible). A read-only Web interface makes
monitoring and status checks simple (and safe) for admins and helpdesk.
Checking scripts are included for remote services (DNS, HTTP, IMAP2,
IMAP3, POP3, samba, SMTP, and SNMP) and local systems (disk space, load,
CPU temperature, fan speed, free memory, print queue size and activity,
processes, RAID status, shells, log file events (logins, restarts, and
brute force attacks), and mail queue).

Changes: This release changes the FTP check to function with more servers
(better/more robust return code separation). There are cosmetic fixes in
Web interface and updated documentation. "findbuggyline.py" has been added
to the Logs directory.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: PTM is a Perl/HTML hybrid language, written entirely in Perl, and
similar to PHP in tag syntax. It allows for the ease of PHP-style inline
code in your dynamic HTML documents, while supplying the power of Perl
that many find to be sorely lacking in PHP. PTM's parser application,
referred to as the PPA, acts as an Apache plugin, a standalone parser
placed in the cgi-bin, or a command line parser (for debugging purposes),
and is distributed for both Unix and Window platforms. Additionally, PTM
wraps many variables common to PHP to ease the transition between PTM and
PHP when switching back and forth.

Changes: A few functions flagged by the testers have been fixed or have
had minor changes in functionality made to them, and there are two major
security enhancements that have been put into place. A couple new base
functionality functions have been added. A new module (RSS20) has been
added that allows for simple node-based parsing of RSS 2.0 compatible XML
feeds both over the Internet and stored in local files. The .htaccess file
has been shortened to provide less overhead in Standalone/Emulation
installation mode, and the installation process has been simplified.

About: qgreylistrbl is an add-on for qmail. It is a further development of
qgreylist by Jon Atkins. Connections from dialin lines, RBL-listed lines,
and nodes without a reverse DNS entry get refused the first time with a
temporary error message. Future connections are accepted immediately. This
method has been proven as very effective at stopping spam. Before a host
gets a greylist entry, it must pass several tests: a test for EHLO/HELO
spoofing, a test whether the recipient exists, a test of the number of
recipients for NDNs, and more.

About: Rant is a flexible build tool. The equivalent to a Makefile for
make is the Rantfile, which is actually a valid Ruby script that is read

packaging, and RDoc generation for Ruby applications and libraries,
creation of gzipped tar and zip archives on all supported platforms
without additional software, recognition of file changes based on MD5
checksums, dependency checking for C/C++ source files (makedepend is not
required), and more. It can generate a script tailored to the needs of a
specific project, which can be used instead of an Rant installation so
that users aren't dependent on Rant.

About: Serving XML provides a pipeline language for declaratively
adapting content to XML, transforming it through a chain of XSLT
stylesheets and SAX filters, and producing a stream of output to a local
or remote destination. The accompanying console app supports reading
content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX events, and writing
it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This software is especially
suitable for converting flat files to XML, with its support for variant
record types, multi-valued fields, namespaces, hierarchical grouping of
records, row-by-row validation with XML Schema, and much more. There is
also an API for embedding the software in a Java application.

  by Roxwood (http://freshmeat.net/users/roxwood/)
  Sun, Dec 18th 2005 21:35

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: Swish (Simple Web-services Interace to Shark) is a Web-services
based workflow API and engine. Enhydra Shark is a powerful workflow engine
framework based on WfMC standards. Swish provides a convenient Web-services
layer on top of Shark. It opens Shark to a wider range of developers by
supporting both Java and non-Java clients. Java clients are supported
natively and can use Swish in "embedded" mode in addition to the Web
services option. Additionally, Swish greatly simplifies access to the more
commonly-used features of Shark.

FAQs, link lists, blogs, SQL reports, a Web services interface, and a very
configurable user privilege and profiling system.

[057] - wview Vantage Pro Weather System 1.9.1
  by Mark Teel (http://freshmeat.net/users/mteel/)
  Sun, Dec 18th 2005 12:26

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering

About: wview is an application that controls a Davis Vantage Pro or
Vantage Pro2 weather station console to retrieve archive records and
current conditions. Archive records may optionally be stored in a
relational database (MySQL or PostgreSQL). At a user-defined interval,
wview will use the archive history and current conditions to generate
weather images (buckets and graphs) and Web pages based on configurable
HTML templates. It supports serial and USB data loggers, as well as
connectivity with a terminal server or serial server via TCP sockets.

Changes: This release adds support for hosting wview on the Linksys
NSLU2. An ipkg repository has been created on the wvewweather.com site so
that wview and prerequisites (including an assortment of USB drivers) can
be easily installed from the NSLU2 ipkg utility. See the new User Manual
section "Using a Linksys NSLU2 as the wview Host" for full details. A
memory leak in dbdatabase.c for SQL record insertions that caused the
memory used by wviewd to gradually grow in size has been fixed. This only
affected those who have "SQLDB_ENABLE" enabled in wview.conf.
