[004] - Backup Manager 0.6
  by Alexis SUKRIEH (http://freshmeat.net/users/sukria/)
  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 11:28

About: Backup Manager is a tool for generating archives easily. It is
designed for those who don't want an obfuscated tool for backing up their
system. It can make tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, and zip archives, can perform
incremental backups, and can upload archives to remote hosts with FTP,
SSH, or RSYNC. It can be run in a parallel mode with different
configuration files. The configuration file is simple to understand. The
backup process can also be customized thanks to hook scripts.

Changes: This is the first stable version. This release provides a way to
perform incremental backups and let you upload your repository to remote
hosts with RSYNC. Every bug reported in previous versions has been closed.
The program is fully translated in 5 languages: French, German, Spanish,
Italian and Vietnamese. A user guide has been written, and a text version
is provided.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. It removes ads, webbugs,
and popups. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely on a
list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects ads
using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in JavaScript engine
which detects popups and js-generated ads.

Changes: A Mac OS X version is now available. Support for Win9x was
re-introduced. A few bugs were fixed, and several new command-line options
were added.

[006] - Bonfire 0.2
  by Philippe (http://freshmeat.net/users/Rouquier/)
  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 11:42

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving
Utilities

About: Bonfire is a CD burning tool for the Gnome desktop. It features the
ability to burn / copy / erase (if rewritable) data and audio discs, full
editing of data discs (move/move/rename files inside a directory) as well
as audio discs, devices detection thanks to HAL, file change notification
(requires kernel > 2.6.13), a customisable GUI (when used with GDL), drag
and drop from Nautilus and other apps, support for any song format
supported by gstreamer, a song and film previewer (thanks to Gstreamer),
the ability to use files on a network as long as the protocol is handled
by gnome-vfs, a search widget based on beagle, and display of all
playlists and their contents (automatically detected through beagle).

Changes: A lot of bugs, memory leaks, and crashes were fixed. There is a
new dependency: libxml2. The search pane, the playlist pane, the preview
pane, and inotify are now optional. You can create and load projects for
audio/data. New command line options (more to come): --data, --audio, and
--project. A filter was added for files not conforming to the Joliet
standard. All disc I/O is now done asynchronously. Some work has been done
so the tree for data disc mimics Nautilus. There are some minor UI
improvements.

[008] - collectd 3.5.1
  by Florian Forster (http://freshmeat.net/users/flocto/)
  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 01:38

System :: Monitoring

About: collectd is a small daemon which collects system information every
10 seconds and writes the results in an RRD-file. The statistics gathered
include: CPU and memory usage, network interface traffic, and system
temperatures (using lm-sensors). In network mode, clients multicast their
values over the network to servers which write the RRD-files.

Changes: A new plugin collects the number of users logged in. The CPU
plugin has been improved to work under FreeBSD. Bugs in the handling of
PID files and signals and in the system-load plugin have been fixed. The
build process has been greatly improved.

  by Pistos (http://freshmeat.net/users/Pistos/)
  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 11:36

Text Editors

About: Diakonos is a customizable, usable console-based text editor. It
features arbitrary language scripting, bookmarking, regular expression
searching, parsed ("smart") indentation, macro recording and playback, a
multi-element clipboard, multi-level undo, a customizable status line,
completely customizable keyboard mapping, and customizable syntax
highlighting.

Changes: Seek behaviour no longer remembers the last position, but uses
the current cursor position instead. The file is now checked for external
modifications, prompting for load. An --execute option has been added that
eval's Ruby code (including Diakonos commands) after startup. Paging up and
down now respects the y cursor margin, and keeps the cursor at the same
screen coordinates. Settings can be altered for the duration of the
editing session. changeSessionSetting and toggleSessionSetting commands
have been added.

  by dotdefender (http://freshmeat.net/users/dotdefender/)
  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 04:03

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: dotDefender secures Web sites against a broad range of HTTP-based
attacks, including session attacks (e.g. denial of service), Web
application attacks (e.g. SQL injection, cross-site scripting, and known
attack signatures), as well as requests originating from known attack
sources (e.g. spammer bots and compromised servers). dotDefender installs
within moments on the Web server along with a predefined, configurable
rule-base, enabling it to secure the Web environment from the moment it is
deployed, with virtually no administrator intervention.

Changes: The ability to define a list of IP addresses that are authorized
to access the management GUI was added. The "admin" password is now
configurable. The refresh message now correctly displays after updating
settings. The dotDefender alert now displays instead of the standard
Apache error message. The signature list was indexed, enabling categories
to be updated.

APOP, KPOP, all flavors of IMAP, and ESMTP ETRN. It can even support IPv6
and IPSEC.

Changes: A potential denial of service bug in multidrop mode was fixed
(CVE-2005-4348, Debian Bug#343836). A socket leak that occurs when SSL
negotiation fails was plugged (Debian Bug#301964). The three security
announcements that were released in 2005 were added to the tarball. This
is likely to be the last 6.2.5.X release. Users are advised to upgrade to

[023] - Galleria 0.2
  by Alexander Kerkum (http://freshmeat.net/users/znndrp/)
  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 01:43

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: Galleria is a command-line tool to turn a directory of images into
a Web gallery. It goes through the directory of pictures, resizes them to
a specified size, and creates thumbnails. Afterward, index and detailed
HTML pages are produced. For its layout, galleria relies on templates.
galleria comes with a nice default template, but custom templates can be
easily created.

Changes: A lot of typos in both the program and the manpage were fixed.
The possibility to specify the image quality for the thumbnail and large
image was added. The possibility to specify a description file was added,
so you can add a description with each image. A flag was added to
automatically convert images to JPEG, so now you can have a BMP gallery if
you want. The way imagemagick is called was changed to make porting to
Windows easier. UTF meta tags were added to the default templates.

[024] - GLobal Application Network 0.2.7
  by Oleg Shalnev (http://freshmeat.net/users/ovss/)
  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 11:18

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Glan is a toolkit for developing network GUI applications. It
consists of a remote Qt toolkit, a network (client-server) wrapper for Qt
classes, and a Qt-based Application Server development platform for
creating GUI oriented client-server applications. It allows the developer
to just write code using the Qt programming style for the server side and
forget about the client side.

Changes: This release implements a new way of starting servers. It uses a
"universal start server" that can load application server modules
dynamically. This provides a very comfortable way of deploying application
modules.

  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 19:39

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: GTK ADI Library is a library containing GTK ADI widgets. ADI stands
from Advanced Document Interface, and is an MDI (Multiple Document
Interface) implementation. It contains a common MDI interface widget and
several MDI representations (views). There are currently two views
available: a "classical for GTK" tabbed MDI view, and an aligned MDI view.
The aligned MDI view can have all child windows visible on the same parent
screen, but without wasted space between them as can usually happen when a
traditional MDI widget is used. Further development will include a window
MDI view, where all the child windows are represented by the standard GTK
windows or dialogs.

  Mon, Dec 19th 2005 19:48

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP client is a PHP class to make HTTP requests. It can submit
requests via a proxy server, establish secure connections (HTTPS) via a
proxy server, PHP with OpenSSL support, or the Curl library with optional
SSL client certificates. It supports HTTP authentication directly or via
proxy using the SASL library, like HTTP Basic, HTTP Digest, and NTLM
(Windows or Samba). It submits POST requests with user-defined form
values, file uploading, or with user-defined request bodies. It retrieves
the HTTP response headers and body data separately. It handles cookies and
automatic redirection handling.

Changes: Cookie handling was fixed to make the cookie values be sent to
the server exactly how they were sent to the client, so now the class can
be used to log in to sites such as Yahoo!, Hotmail, Gmail, MySpace, and
Friendster. Error handling of form submission with file uploading was
fixed.

About: GNU libtool is a generic library support script. Libtool hides the
complexity of using shared and static libraries behind a consistent,
portable interface. Libtool supports building static libraries on all
platforms.

Changes: This release fixes setting of shlibpath variables
(LD_LIBRARY_PATH and similar) and the order of link search paths for
creating and testing of uninstalled libraries. Silent failure of
'libtoolize --ltdl' if libltdl files are not present has been fixed. If
non-pic objects were not compiled, and libtool is called in link mode,
libtool no longer silently creates an empty archive, but rather falls back
to pic objects. A potential denial of service by malicious other users for

About: numactl implements simple NUMA policy support. A NUMA policy allows
you to tune programs by controlling the placement of memory in NUMA (Non
Uniform Memory Access) systems. The numactl program runs other programs
with a specific NUMA policy, and the libnuma shared library ("NUMA API")
can be used to set NUMA policy in applications. Libnuma is the preferred
interface to the Linux kernel NUMA policy system calls. The package also
has various tools, like numastat to decode the kernel NUMA statistics.

Changes: This version is a feature-complete stable release with many
bugfixes. It features many bugfixes over earlier releases, some new
features (support for NUMA distance reporting), and a port to PPC.

About: Redet is a tool for developing and executing regular expressions
using any of more than 30 search programs, editors, and programming
languages, intended both for developing regular expressions for use
elsewhere and as a search tool in its own right. For each program in each

guarantees that they will be correct for the program version and locale.
Additional features include persistent history, extensive help, a variety
of character entry tools, and the ability to change locale while running.
Redet is highly configurable and fully supports Unicode.

Changes: The fish shell is now supported. The "Programs" command on the
"Help" menu now provides descriptions of the programs in addition to links
to their Web sites. Feature testing can now be toggled on and off while
Redet is running. A bug in the toggling of labels in the character entry
menu was fixed. A bug in the relabelling of the Help menu after a change
in locale was fixed. A bug in the execution of awk was fixed. Support for

("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via
"quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like
a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.

Changes: Missing handling of NavigationInfo.speed was fixed. A problem
when parsing "|" characters in VRML comments was fixed. A --nounistd
workaround was added for a bug in Debian flex. Wrong handling of the
headlight of multiple NavigationInfo nodes in a scene was fixed. A problem
with wrong backface culling during moving in scene was fixed.
