[001] - A-Gen 0.1.2
  by namenlos (http://freshmeat.net/users/namenlos/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 12:48

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: With A-Gen, one can create static Web photo albums directly from a
directory of pictures. Since the album is static HTML, a Web server is not
needed to view the album from a local medium. The albums create by A-Gen
should be easy to use.

Changes: This release fixes compilation bugs with GCC 4.x (already done in
the unreleased 0.1.1 version). It fixes dependency problems on Ubuntu and
Debian unstable.

[006] - Asterisk::LDAP 0.6.0
  by Ben Klang (http://freshmeat.net/users/kf4wbx/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 02:27

Communications :: Telephony
System :: Systems Administration

About: Asterisk::LDAP is a perl module for generating Asterisk 1.0
compatible configuration files from an LDAP directory tree. The package
includes everything you need to get started, including the module itself,
schema files, and example code. Functionality is provided to see if a
reload is necessary and optionally send asterisk a 'reload' command when
updates are made. Included is a script that can be called from
voicemail.conf's externpass option to update a user's voice mailbox PIN
number in LDAP. Asterisk::LDAP is currently capable of generating
extensions.conf, voicemail.conf, and musiconhold.conf. Support is planned
for sip.conf, iax.conf, and meetme.conf.

Changes: Contexts are now written with a serial number and are not updated
unless the serial number is incremented. This allows for granular and
guaranteed consistent updates. The API has been dramatically cleaned up.
Where before a number of calls were required to set up before getting any
useful data out, only one call is required and three more optional calls
can help automate most of the configuration. The developer may now choose
to read the information from LDAP or write the contents to a set of files
or to access the internal data structures directly for manual formatting.

About: BitTorrent is a tool for copying files from one machine to another.
FTP punishes sites for being popular. Since all uploading is done from one
place, a popular site needs big iron and big bandwidth. With BitTorrent,
clients automatically mirror files they download, making the publisher's
burden almost nothing.

Changes: An "Invalid Menu Handle" error when upgrading was fixed. A bug in

About: Delphi Yacc & Lex is a parser generator toolset for Delphi and
Kylix, based on Turbo Pascal Lex and Yacc version 4.1. The primary goal
is to clean up the code, and improve compatibility and maintainability.
The project started because the original Turbo Pascal Lex and Yacc did
not compile well in Delphi 5+ or Kylix, the sourcecode was messy, and the
last release or activity dates back to early 2000.

[019] - Divmod Axiom 0.4.0
  by Jean-Paul Calderone (http://freshmeat.net/users/kuran/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 04:17

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Divmod Axiom is an object-relational database backed by SQLite, the
goal of which is to provide an efficient, non-SQL interface to an existing
relational database manager. It provides support for common Twisted
practices: an Axiom store is also a Twisted IServiceCollection provider,
and an implementation of Twisted's IRealm interface is provided. It makes
heavy use of plugins and includes a wall-clock scheduler.

Changes: This release adds a floating point attribute type, support for
associating multiple sets of credentials with a single account,
command-line support for interrogating a database regarding its running
state as well as support for stopping a running database, command-line
support for extricating an entire user account from a site database (and
the reverse operation). This release also improves support for SQL
operations, such as sorting by multiple columns and performing DISTINCT
queries. A bug in the sum() aggregate was fixed.

[020] - Divmod Epsilon 0.4.0
  by Jean-Paul Calderone (http://freshmeat.net/users/kuran/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 02:57

Utilities

About: Epsilon is a small utility package. Its dependencies make it
inappropriate for inclusion in Twisted, but it performs functions that are
generic enough to be used in projects that don't want to share the large
footprint of Divmod's other projects. Currently, it includes a powerful
date/time formatting and import/export class for exchanging date and time
information between all Python's various ways to interpret objects as
times or time deltas. It also includes some tools for managing concurrent
asynchronous processes within Twisted.

Changes: Epsilon now includes a structured mechanism for monkey-patching
third party modules, as well as a directory-from-string-template module
for creating project skeletons. epsilon.extime.Time.fromHumanly also now
supports the string "now".

[021] - Divmod Mantissa 0.4.1
  by Jean-Paul Calderone (http://freshmeat.net/users/kuran/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 22:58

Communications
Internet

About: Mantissa is an application server. It provides integration between
the Axiom object database and the Twisted framework, as well as Web
user-interface utilities. Mantissa is the deployment target: it can serve
an application over several protocols; HTTP is one of those protocols, but
HTTP isn't treated specially by the software.

Changes: This version introduces an "Offering" plugin interface. By
developing offerings, Mantissa servers can be extended quickly and easily
with different sets of features. Existing users can gain access to the new
functionality. Configuration of new offerings is done using a few simple
Web pages. Another major new feature is a generic tabular data browser,
which allows developers to easily display the results of any Axiom query.
This release also adds support for moving users between servers, better
control over the HTTP server, and various other minor feature enhancements
and bugfixes.

  by Jean-Paul Calderone (http://freshmeat.net/users/kuran/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 03:35

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Nevow is a Web application construction kit. It is designed to
allow the programmer to express as much of the view logic as desired in
Python, and includes a pure Python XML expression syntax, named stan, to
facilitate this. It also provides rich support for designer-edited
templates, using a very small XML attribute language to provide
bi-directional template manipulation capability.

Changes: Nevow now includes a much enhanced client-to-server and
server-to-client AJAX system, Athena. Athena emphasizes the transfer of
structured data rather than HTML, and encourages complex manipulations of
the DOM to occur in the browser rather than in the server.

[025] - FiForms 0.9.3
  by Daniel (http://freshmeat.net/users/databases/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 22:46

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: FiForms is a framework of PHP classes that lets you rapidly
prototype and develop a Web/database front end using the latest PHP and
XML technologies. It currently includes data-entry classes and XML report
generation scripts. These libraries utilize the new XML capabilities of
PHP 5 to create a framework for developing Web applications completely in
XML languages. The FiForms framework also includes a collection of XML
Schemas for building these forms, reports, and scripts in XML. FiReports
uses XML and XSLT to generate high-quality on-screen and printable
reports, as well spreadsheets from an SQL query stored in a PHP or XML
definition.

Changes: This release added a FiForms XML Applications framework. Several
improvements were made to the classes, including server-side XSLT
transformation and added customizability in FiForms_global.inc.php. The
authentication system was updated to make the interface more modular. This
release also included a mechanism to add concurrency control to alert users
if multiple users change the same data. This is implemented through a
unique change detection and synchronization system to allow critical OLTP
database applications to be implemented in a Web browser.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

About: The GeoServer project is a full transactional Java (J2EE)
implementation of the OpenGIS Consortium's Web Feature Server (WFS)
specification with a completely integrated Web Map Server (WMS). Users who
would like to access and modify their geographic data over the Internet

GeoServer or one of the existing commercial Web Feature Servers. It is
built as a thin layer on top of the excellent GeoTools2 GIS toolkit, and
includes a STRUTs-based Web administration interface for easy
configuration.

Changes: This GeoServer release is the result of the transition to
completely wiki-based documentation. The documentation has been greatly
improved, with a new structure and lots of additional information added by
users and developers. The other big improvement is a better upgrade path
with the Data Directory. It's been in the code, but seldom used due to
lack of documentation and a couple of bugs. With this release, it's a part

  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 08:13

About: Luban is a component oriented scripting language. It was created to
be easier than Java and to feature namespaces and interfaces. It has a
simple and clean syntax and a property-based component model similar to
Java beans. A component can be a process or a composition. All data types
and components are saved in a namespace hierarchy. Thread dispatching and
synchronization are built in. It also features component interface
inheritance, dynamic type checking, reflection, serialization, remote
component calls, exception free error handling, and an API to import data
new types from C++.

Changes: Luban can now access Java through a major new feature, the Luban
Java Bridge (LJB). It can construct any Java object, call any Java
instance member function, call any Java static function, read and write
any Java object field, read and write any Java static field, Check the
Java object type with "instanceof", perform data conversion between Java
and Luban, script Java GUIs with Luban code. luban.InvocationQueue is a

System :: Systems Administration

About: Mb2md.pl not only converts mailbox files into a Maildir, but also
the /var/spool/mail/$USER mailspool file. It is smart enough to not
transfer a dummy message such as the one UW IMAPD puts at the start of
Mbox mailboxes. You can add your own search terms to the script to make it
ignore other forms of dummy first messages.

[054] - Metastorage 2005.12.21
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 04:26

Database
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Metastorage is a PHP data access object generator compiler tool. It
implements an object persistence API from a description in an XML format
named CPML. The persistent object classes implement object-relational
mappings, so developers do not have to write SQL manually. It features an
object query language for specifying conditions for querying objects,
generation of classes for producing reports, generation of classes to
manage templated Web forms for creating new persistent objects, and
generation of UML class diagrams. It can be run from the command line or
from a Web interface.

Changes: Support for large data variables (BLOBs) was implemented.
Applications can now store and retrieve data strings or files in a large
data variable with a single function call. The generate code that stores
objects uses cached prepared queries. Database schemas that require table
or field renaming can now be easily performed without destroying
previously stored objects when classes, variables, or collections are
renamed.

terminal package is a rather complete vt102/xterm-terminal, and the
ssh-package contains the ssh- protocol and also "drop-in" socket
replacements to use ssh-tunnels transparently from a Java
application/applet. It also contains functionality to realize a
ssh-server. Finally, the security package contains RSA, DES, 3DES,
Blowfish, IDEA, and RC4 ciphers.

Changes: This release fixes numerous issues, such as with the
connection-dialog, terminal emulator, and file transferring.

  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 07:50

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: ModSecurity is an intrusion detection and prevention engine for Web
applications (sometimes called a Web application firewall). Operating
embedded or as part of an Apache reverse proxy, it increases Web
application security, protecting Web applications from known and unknown
attacks. It is flexible and easy to configure. It monitors HTTP traffic
(including POST payloads), detects or prevents attacks, enhances logging,
performs anti-evasion, and allows administrators to create custom rules to
suit their specific needs. It excels in HTTP traffic monitoring and
just-in-time vulnerability patching.

Changes: In the Apache 1.x version, it is now possible to skip the slow
internal regex library and compile against PCRE, resulting in significant
performance increase. A compile-time switch DISABLE_SUEXEC was added to
prevent ModSecurity from using suEXEC for process creation. Several small
bugs were fixed.

  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 22:52

Software Development

About: RTL-check is a framework for static analysis of programs from a
safety and security perspective. It performs analysis on RTL, which is the
low-level intermediate representation generated by GCC. This framework was
created for a research project that deals with static analysis and memory
safety of programs developed in unsafe languages such as C or C++. In
particular, it is targeted at detecting buffer overflows statically and
proving their absence. However, this framework should be useful for other
projects dealing with static analysis.

Changes: The framework now supports the concept of flow insensitive
analysis. This version adds an analysis that automatically computes the
size of call parameters. Some documentation improvements and bugfixes were

[084] - Seismic Toolkit 0.36
  by Dominique Reymond (http://freshmeat.net/users/Reymond/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 22:56

Scientific/Engineering

About: Seismic Toolkit is a tool for processing and displaying seismic
signal data in a graphical interface. It reads seismic signals in SAC
format, and provides a number of user operations, such as zooming,
filtering, spectral analysis, polarisation analysis, time-frequency
representation, Hilbert transform, and singular value decomposition.

Changes: Code in the SEED_RESP utility program was cleaned up and the
computation of frequency_step was changed to be geometric instead of
regular step between FMIN and FMAX. Consequently, the modulus no longer
needs a large number of points to describe the entire spectrum.

Communications :: Telephony
Software Development :: Testing :: Traffic Generation

About: Sipp is a performance testing tool for the SIP protocol. It
includes a few basic SipStone user agent scenarios (UAC & UAS) and
establishes and releases multiple calls with the INVITE and BYE methods.
It also reads XML scenario files describing any performance testing
configuration. It features the dynamic display of statistics about running
tests, periodic CSV statistics dumps, TCP, UDP, or TLS over IPv4 or IPv6
over multiple sockets or multiplexed with retransmission management,
regular expressions and variables in scenario files, conditional
branching, and dynamically-adjustable call rates. Since 1.1rc4, RTP play
(voice and RFC2833 DTMFs) is also supported.

Changes: A new pcap play feature was added to send RTP streams (voice and
RFC2833 DTMFs). A new "nop" command was added to execute actions only. The
Windows/Cygwin version has returned. Multi-socket mode in UDP was fixed.
Several other bugfixes were made.

[087] - SQLite 3.2.8
  by ugenn (http://freshmeat.net/users/ugenn/)
  Wed, Dec 21st 2005 02:55

Database :: Database Engines/Servers

About: SQLite is a small, fast, embeddable SQL database engine that
supports most of SQL92, including transactions with atomic commit and
rollback, subqueries, compound queries, triggers, and views. A complete
database is stored in a single cross-platform disk file. The native C/C++
API is simple and easy to use. Bindings for other languages are also
available.

Changes: An obscure bug was fixed that can cause database corruption under
the following unusual circumstances: a large INSERT or UPDATE statement
which is part of an even larger transaction fails due to a uniqueness
contraint but the containing transaction commits.
