Software Development :: Testing

About: Abbot is a framework for testing Java GUIs. It lets you launch an
application or GUI component, play back user actions on it, and examine
its state. Tests may be coded or scripted. The editor supports recording
user actions into a script, exploring the component hierarchy, running the
script, and other features you'd expect from a script editor. Test scripts
are JUnit extensions.

[002] - Ajax+PHP CSS Popup Chat rev173
  by RoLo (http://freshmeat.net/users/rolosworld/)
  Thu, Dec 22nd 2005 03:56

Communications :: Chat
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Ajax+PHP CSS Popup Chat is an application for communicating with
the users currently watching a Web page. On the browser, it uses
JavaScript to request the online users list from the PHP script. If the
user clicks on one of a user's nickname, a CSS popup will appear for
sending messages. If the user receives a message and no CSS popup from the
sender is open, a CSS popup will be open with the messages. The libraries
are designed so that anyone with any HTML code can use them.

Changes: User list refresh is now limited by the alive_time setting. A
packed chat.js and ajax.js were added. The other scripts were changed to
use them. All AJAX transactions were crunched to one per second. Public
chat support was added along with many bugfixes.

[005] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.5-RC3
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Thu, Dec 22nd 2005 08:12

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ and DMZ-2-LAN
forwarding, protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, and extensive user
definable logging with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It features
support for all IP protocols and VPNs such as IPSec. and is easy to
configure and highly customizable. A filter script that makes your
firewall log more readable is also included.

Changes: An option to disable PMTU discovery was added. TTL-inc support
was added for the prerouting chain ($TTL_INC). iptables TTL packet setting
($PACKET_TTL) was added. An option to change default TTL ($DEFAULT_TTL) was
added. A bug which prevented LAN rules from working for multiple interfaces
was fixed. The "reload" command was changed into "force-reload".
Miscellaneous tweaks and fixes were made.

[006] - Arri 0.2a1
  by Adam Gleave (http://freshmeat.net/users/parasitical/)
  Thu, Dec 22nd 2005 03:59

Security

About: Arri provides an interface for accessing arrays in a safe manner
that means that it is impossible to cause an overflow and, if the array is
set to hard (it normally is), truncation. In addition to simply providing
an interface for handling arrays, it also provides interfaces for using
the arrays such as an IO API.

Changes: Some macros were added with safe values for initializing buffers.
r_buffer and w_buffer were removed from the p_arr data structure and
replaced with array. The examples were improved. p_buf_read_modifiable now
checks that you can actually write something. p_f_err and p_f_err2 were
removed as they were redunant.

  by 1bitmemory (http://freshmeat.net/users/1bitmemory/)
  Thu, Dec 22nd 2005 08:09

System :: Filesystems

About: compFUSEd is a simple FUSE based compressed overlay filesystem that
provides both read and write operations. Files are compressed and
decompressed on-the-fly, but the actual storage is done in the directory
of an underlying filesystem. This underlying filesystem takes care of
space allocation, fragmention, and other operations not related to
compression. It features a configuration file, the ability to use multiple
compression formats, a blacklist of extensions that should not be
compressed, and more.

Changes: The HOWTO.txt file was written. Bugfixes were made. Greatly
needed file utilities were added. Logging features were added. The
statfs() code was patched, and now returns the size of the data present on

[025] - HTML::Template 2.8
  by Sam Tregar (http://freshmeat.net/users/sunking/)
  Thu, Dec 22nd 2005 11:29

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The HTML::Template module attempts to make using HTML templates
simple and natural. It extends standard HTML with a few new tags for
variables, loops, if/else blocks and includes. A file written with HTML
and these new tags is called a template. Using this module you fill in the
values for the variables and loops declared in the template. This allows
you to seperate design (the HTML) from the data, which you generate in the
Perl script. While there are many other HTML template systems available,
this module is simple and fast. It doesn't try to reinvent Perl CGI, it
just augments HTML with a few new and very useful abilities.

Changes: This release fixes a number of small bugs and adds a new option
called default_escape.

About: The HTML::Template::Expr module provides an extension to

purely an addition--all the normal HTML::Template options, syntax, and
behaviors will still work. Expression support includes comparisons, math
operations, string operations, and a mechanism allowing you to add your
own functions at runtime.

Changes: This release fixes a compatibility problem with the recently
release HTML::Template 2.8.

About: IkeWiki is a new kind of Wiki (a so-called "Semantic Wiki")
developed by Salzburg Research that allows users to collaboratively
annotate pages and links between pages with semantic annotations. Such
annotations are useful because they give machines a certain amount of
"understanding" of the content that goes beyond merely displaying the
page. This information can then, for example, be used for context-specific
presentation of pages, advanced querying, consistency verification, or
drawing conclusions. It currently only works properly with Mozilla Firefox
and Opera (partly).

Changes: The license was changed to the LGPL. The code modularized and
cleaned up. Experimental support for SPARQL querying and XForms was added.

[029] - Java for C++ 0.4
  by Stefan Palme (http://freshmeat.net/users/kleiner/)
  Thu, Dec 22nd 2005 03:50

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Java for C++ is a tool that generates C++ wrapper classes for
existing Java classes. It reads a list of Java class names and creates
source code for C++ classes to wrap them. The implementation of the
wrapper classes uses JNI (Java Native Interface) to call the "real" Java
classes. The C++ API to use these wrapper classes is very close to the API
of the original Java classes, so developers of C++ software can use Java
classes as if they have been implemented in C++.

Changes: A problem where null values for method arguments, method return
values, or field values caused some generated code to crash was fixed.
Updating is strongly encouraged.

Software Development :: Build Tools
System :: Installation/Setup

About: JExpress Professional lets you create multiplatform, multilingual
installers and auto-updaters. An easy-to-use Swing interface lets you
design your installers quickly without requiring any programming. You can
build a single installer for multiple products or install types. It allows
you to efficiently customize your installers using Java. JExpress
Professional goes beyond just building Java installations; it can also
select the exact classes your Java app uses, build your directory tree,
and produce JAR files. JExpress Professional can even use a sophisticated
algorithm to upload your software to your Web site without user
intervention. It can create native installers for Windows, Linux, Mac OS
X, and Solaris that install the JVM if it isn't already installed.

Changes: The uninstaller is more flexible; if the user moves the
application, the uninstaller removes the product from the new location.

About: jZeno is a meta-project that integrates a collection of Java
libraries to form a ready-to-use Web development environment. The main
architectural goal of jZeno is to allow people to create Web applications
by using pure Java development as much as possible, largely reducing the
need to know technologies like Javascript, HTML, CSS, database-specific
SQL, and tons of different APIs.

Changes: This release introduces an AJAX-enabled rendering engine for the
Echo toolkit. This allows jZeno applications to perform very fast and
compact updates to the running application without the need to load full
pages all the time. Various other bugfixes and enhancements have been
added as well. At the same time as the 0.9 release, a bugfix release for
0.8 is available. The 0.8.x series will be maintained for some time to

About: Marauroa is a multiplayer online game framework server. It uses a
multithreaded server architecture with a UDP oriented network protocol, a
MySQL based persistence engine, and a flexible game system. The game
system is totally expandable and modifiable by game developers and is able
to run Python scripts defining the game's rules. Marauroa is based on a
design philosophy called Action/Perception. Marauroa is totally game
agnostic and makes very little assumptions about what are you trying to
do, allowing a great freedom to create any game type.

Changes: This release added capacity to and changed the serialization form
of RPSlot and is incompatible with previous releases. Invisible and private
attributes, an RPSlot to RPClass definition, and invisible rpslots and
private rpslots were added. The way messages are signed and the protocol
version were changed. Logger output was improved to handle RPClass syntax
problems and to allow the creation of accounts from within the server.

[056] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 5.1
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Thu, Dec 22nd 2005 00:05

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into C,
C++, Objective-C, or D code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at
any point in a regular language and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. Through the use of labels and epsilon transitions, Ragel
supports the building of state machines using a named state and associated
transition list paradigm. Its finite state machines are closed under all of
its operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular languages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is
regular.

Changes: Bugs related to return status, the longest match operator,
Graphviz output generation, intermediate data parsing, machine selection
with -M, the Vim syntax file, and error handling were fixed. Some broken
test cases were fixed. The rlscan example was updated.
