[004] - argtable 2.5
by Stewart Heitmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/sheitman/)
Fri, Dec 23rd 2005 00:46
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Argtable is an ANSI C library for parsing GNU style command line
arguments, as in "foo -abc -o myfile --help --count=7". It enables a
program's command line syntax to be defined in the source code as an array
of argtable structs. The command line is then parsed according to that
specification, and the resulting values are returned in those same structs
where they are accessible to the main program. The default parsing,
validation, and error reporting routines may be replaced by user-defined
callbacks if desired, and new argtable data types may be created to parse
user-defined argument types. The parsing itself is done using GNU getopt
and so is 100% GNU compatible.
Changes: This release includes new functionality for parsing command line
options having optional values (--foo=[bar]). Stricter GNU-style
formatting of the on-line help is done. It also includes bugfixes and
additional documentation and example code. By far, the greatest change has
been porting all of the makefiles over to automake. It is expected this
will make the argtable source package even more portable than before.

Internet
About: Bombino is a small but powerful skype plugin for creating
conferences by a (remote) user command. The command can be sent as an SMS
(from GSM phone) or from the Ice Brains Software Web site. After being
installed, Bombino acts as a server. It receives commands from a (remote)
user, checks privileges, and creates the requested conference. It is
possible to use Bombino to call a Skype user from an ordinary phone.
Changes: It is now possible to destroy a conference connection (hang up)
when the conference initiator disconnects. Multi-language interface
support and a Russian language pack were added. Commands may now be sent
to Bombino not only from your GSM phone but also from the Web. Several
bugs were fixed.

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
About: Bonita is a flexible cooperative workflow system based on the
workflow model proposed by the ECOO Team, which incorporates the
anticipation of activities as a more flexible mechanism of workflow
execution. This flexibility allows a considerable speed increase in the
design and development phases of cooperative applications. The workflow
engine is built on EJB (Enterprise Java Beans). The system offers a
comprehensive set of integrated graphical tools for performing the process
conception and definition, the instantiation and control of this process,
and the interaction with the users and other applications.
Changes: This version focuses on performance enhancements as well as the
workflow engine robustness. Some new features, such Initiators mappers and
OnInstantiate process hooks, were also added. Support for JOnAS-4_6_3 was
added.

[008] - ccontrol 0.8
by Rusty Russell (http://freshmeat.net/users/rustyq/)
Fri, Dec 23rd 2005 09:45
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: The ccontrol program takes over the roles of the compiler and
linker, and reads a configuration file to decide what to do before
invoking them. This is particularly useful for centralized control over
commands and options, such as enabling distcc(1) and ccache(1).
Changes: ccontrol now prints what it would do (the effective
configuration) when invoked without arguments. This release fixes a bug
which caused ccontrol to fire all compilations in parallel if distcc
failed.

System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Some build issues caused by the new packaging split were fixed.
PackageRecipe was also updated for the package split.

[012] - DRBL 1.5.5-28 (Stable)
by Steven (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevenshiau/)
Fri, Dec 23rd 2005 00:53
About: Diskless Remote Boot in Linux (DRBL) provides a diskless or
systemless environment for client machines. It works on Debian, Mandriva,
Red Hat, Fedora, and SuSE. Unlike LTSP, it uses distributed hardware
resources and makes it possible for clients to fully access local
hardware. It also includes Clonezilla, a partitioning and disk cloning
utility similar to Symantec Ghost.
Changes: Some bugs were fixed, and more enhancements were made. A problem
with nfsd in Red Hat-like distributions was fixed. The single image file
size now can be larger than 2GB in clonezilla. The size can be defined in
/opt/drbl/conf/drbl-ocs.conf. Another program was added in clonezilla
(ocs-onthefly) to do cloning on-the-fly. Now you can clone the harddrives
in a drbl client and clone the harddrive or partition in one of the drbl
clients to that of another drbl client via the network.

by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
Fri, Dec 23rd 2005 23:31
Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
Changes: UDP transports now work even if the sender and receiver use
different MTUs. An integer overflow that limited the local datastore to 4
GB modulo 4 GB was fixed. Most importantly, this version should use
significantly less processor time and the memory use should stabilize at a
much lower level. Depending on the configuration, it can be as much as 10
times more efficient in terms of memory footprint and processor time
compared to the previous version.

[032] - Jameleon 3.0.5
by Christian Hargraves (http://freshmeat.net/users/engrean/)
Fri, Dec 23rd 2005 12:03
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
About: Jameleon is an automated testing framework that can be used by
technical and non-technical users alike. One of the main concepts behind
it is to create a group of keywords or tags that represent different
screens of an application. All of the logic required to automate each
particular screen can be defined in Java and mapped to these keywords. The
keywords can then be organized with different data sets to form test
scripts without requiring an in-depth knowledge of how the application
works. The test scripts are then used to automate testing efforts and to
generate manual test case documentation.
Changes: This release fixes a GUI problem which caused it to keep a lock
on the test case being viewed; the SQL tag used to return null for
TIMESTAMP column types against Oracle. The GUI also includes new support
for debugging data-driven tags (such as SQL, CSV, and testcase).

System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
Utilities
About: psync is a distribution mirroring utility. Its main goal is to be
able to update a distribution mirror but keep it as consistent as
possible. One of the main problems updating a mirror is that if the
mirroring process is stopped for any reason, the mirror stays
inconsistent: either some of the packages in the old databases were
removed or not all the new packages were downloaded. psync aims to fix
this. It also aims to support as many distributions as possible.
Changes: This version adds full Yum repo support. A major rewrite has
simplified the road to fine-grained repo mirroring, but is not here yet.

About: radmind is a suite of Unix command-line tools and a server designed
to remotely administer the file systems of multiple Unix machines. At its
core, radmind operates as a tripwire. It is able to detect changes to any
managed filesystem object, e.g. files, directories, links, etc. However,
radmind goes further than just integrity checking: once a change is
detected, radmind can optionally reverse the change. Each managed machine
may have its own loadset composed of multiple, layered overloads. This
allows, for example, the operating system to be described separately from
applications. Loadsets are stored on a remote server. By updating a

[063] - SMS Server Tools 2.0
by Stefan Frings (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfrings/)
Fri, Dec 23rd 2005 13:47
Communications
About: The SMS Server Tools (smstools) were made to send and receive SMS
from one or many GSM modems. They include a send/receive daemon and some
sample scripts to build an SMS email gateway and for logging into an SQL
database. The daemon waits for files in an outgoing spool directory and
sends them. It puts all received SMS in an incoming spool directory, and
can call any external program for incoming or outgoing notification. This
software support text messages in 7 and 16 bits (UCS2), as well as 8 bit
binary messages.
Changes: This version is a major code cleanup. The following bugs from
version 2.0-testing are resolved: the program ignored an ERROR answer
after the AT+CMGR command; corrupt files in the incoming directory; the
program tried to use an undefined spool directory when sending messages to
an unknown provider while provider sorting was enabled; the global event
handler was not used; and after 3 failed send attempts, the failed file
remained locked for a long time.

[068] - SVN::Web 0.42
by Nik Clayton (http://freshmeat.net/users/nikclayton/)
Fri, Dec 23rd 2005 12:13
Software Development :: Version Control
About: SVN::Web provides a Web interface to Subversion repositories. You
can browse the tree, view history of a directory or a file, see what's
changed in a specific revision, track changes with RSS, and also view
diffs. It also tracks the branching feature (node copy) of Subversion,
so you can easily see the relationship between branches.
Changes: Error messages are friendlier and easier to localise to other
languages. There's a new configuration syntax that allows for easy
configuration of per-action options. A (partial) French localisation has
been added. svn:externals properties that are set on a directory are
shown when browsing that directory. You can select two arbitrary
revisions and get a diff showing the changes between those revisions. If
you only have one repository configured, then the list action can be
configured to immediately redirect to browsing that repository.

About: VCG TriMeshInfo is a tool designed to inspect 3D models and
retrieve many types of topological and geometrical information from them.
It can be used to automate the process of decoding 3D mesh inherent
properties and ease data classification and retrieval. For each analyzed
dataset, the following data are extracted: number of vertices, number of
faces, number of edges, number of connected components, number of
boundaries, number of isolated (i.e. unreferenced) vertices, manifold,
genus (computed only for manifold datasets), orientability, orientation,
regularity, number of duplicated vertices, and self-intersection.
Changes: This release included a major rewrite of the core component for
computing geometrical and topological features of the analyzed mesh.
Important changes included speeded up self-intersection tests, more robust
(and correct) computation of topological genus and volume, and more
flexible output with an HTML output option.
