[001] - 4tH compiler 3.4f-pre1 (Development)
  by HanSoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/hansoft/)
  Sat, Dec 24th 2005 11:30

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: 4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the
standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very
small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone
executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports over
85% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation,
pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, recursion, include files,
etc. It comes with an RPN calculator, line editor, compiler, decompiler,
C-source generators, and a virtual machine.

Changes: Files can be opened in read-write mode. Text files don't need to
be explicitly declared anymore. Enumerations are supported now. Several
library sources have been added, like lists, locals, breakpoints. A sodoku
solver was added to the examples. A glossary has been added to the manual.

Communications :: Chat :: AOL Instant Messenger
Communications :: Chat :: ICQ

About: AutoProfile is an extension to Gaim that allows users to create
customized away messages and profiles using dynamic "components" that
automatically update on a regular basis. Generated text can include song
names from XMMS, Winamp, iTunes, or Windows Media Player, snippets of
Xanga and LiveJournal posts or other RSS feeds, statistics regarding saved
conversation logs, a countdown/countup timer, fortune quotes, computer
uptime, the contents of a Web page or a text file, the output of a
program, and timestamps. A large number of options allows users to fully
customize the program as they see fit.

Changes: This release added the ability to show information from Xanga,
LiveJournal, and RSS feeds. The music player plugin list was updated.
Longer AIM profiles and away messages are now supported. Major updates
were made for compatibility with Gaim 2.0.0beta1. Various bugs were fixed.

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries
System

About: radlib is a C language library developed to abstract details of
interprocess communications and common Linux/Unix system facilities so
that application developers can concentrate on application solutions. It
encourages developers to use a proven paradigm of event-driven,
asynchronous design. By abstracting interprocess messaging, events,
timers, and any I/O device that can be represented as a file descriptor,
radlib simplifies the implementation of multi-purpose processes, as well
as multi-process applications. In short, radlib is a sincere attempt to
provide real-time OS capability on a non-real-time OS.

Changes: NSLU2 ipkg binary support was added for radlib and radlib-devel
in the openslug environment. radlib can now be easily deployed on the
LinkSys NSLU2 openslug platform. See the new README file section "LINKSYS
NSLU2 DEVELOPMENT" for details. The PostGreSQL raddatabaseTableIfExists

[020] - remake 0.60
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Sat, Dec 24th 2005 14:53

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Debuggers

About: remake is a patched and modernized version of GNU make utility
that adds improved error reporting, the ability to trace execution in a
comprehensible way, and a debugger. The debugger lets you set
breakpoints on targets, show and set variables in expanded or unexpanded
form, inspect target descriptions, see the target call stack, and even
execute arbitrary GNU make fragments (e.g. add a dependency to an existing
target).

Changes: Tracing/debugging now sets shell tracing. On error, the target
call stack is shown by default. The prompt has been changed to show the
target and dependencies. Quitting from recursive invocation has been
improved. The help command has been reorganized to be more gdb-like and
ddd-friendly. Patches from cygwin and GNU/Linux and features from GNU Make
3.81 were incorporated. Note that the prompt and Emacs lisp command have
been changed from makedb to mdb to avoid confusion with another Unix
command. If you were using ddd-3.3.12-test you will need to get a newer
version.

About: rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt,
modified to store text in Unicode (either UCS-2 or UCS-4) and to use
locale-correct input and output. It also supports mixing multiple fonts at
the same time, including Xft fonts.

Changes: This release features a complete rewrite of the internal line
handling, resulting in a major speedup. Lines will wrap on resizing
instead of being split and cut. retain-window-on-shell-exit (-hold) and
-pty-fd now work as expected in urxvtc. Some internal limits (number of
scrollback lines, terminal size) have been significantly increased.

  Sat, Dec 24th 2005 07:15

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: SCAM stands for Simple Configure for Automatic Makefiles. From a
standard Makefile (with optional extra variables), it creates a full

distclean). It can be used to look for specific components/libraries, like
autoconf. It does not need to be extended to look for most libraries.

Changes: This release reworks the internals (now cleaner), adds some new
scams (qt4, backreference, sharedlib, jack, gstreamer, glib, xml2,
pythonc) and fixes many others, and is more verbose.

[024] - Swish Workflow API/Engine 2005-12-21
  by Roxwood (http://freshmeat.net/users/roxwood/)
  Sat, Dec 24th 2005 04:05

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: Swish (Simple Web-services Interace to Shark) is a Web-services
based workflow API and engine. Enhydra Shark is a powerful workflow engine
framework based on WfMC standards. Swish provides a convenient Web-services
layer on top of Shark. It opens Shark to a wider range of developers by
supporting both Java and non-Java clients. Java clients are supported
natively and can use Swish in "embedded" mode in addition to the Web
services option. Additionally, Swish greatly simplifies access to the more
commonly-used features of Shark.

Changes: The public API now has experimental (and incomplete)
querying/searching/iterator support and other minor additions. All
non-typed Lists and Maps were replaced with typed equivalents for improved
compatibility with strongly-typed clients like C#. These changes should not
affect existing PHP and Ruby clients. Bugfixes were made, including a fix
to WSDD beanMapping definitions to enable Axis to produce better WSDL.
Example client code fixes were made and incomplete .NET client code
examples were added.

tool and development toolchain (gcc, glibc, uclibc, dietlibc, X.org, KDE,
GNOME, etc.). Its basis is an automatic build system that makes it
possible to either update a running system or create a binary distribution
that can later be deployed via network or physical media. The system is
extremely versatile and makes it possible to create sets of programs for
different kinds of systems, from routers to desktops, including different
architectures and platforms.

Changes: The necessary installer rewrite has been done to include support
for u/dev. The 2.2 series includes a fully modular kernel, support for C++
cross compilation and powerpc64 and mips64, as well as a lot updates and
changes under the hood. Approximately 3,198 updates have performed, 913
issues fixed, and 141 improvements worked out.

would otherwise run less advanced, simpler operating systems. uClinux gives
the programmer a Linux API with remarkably few concessions to the lack of
MMU (Memory Management Unit), and in terms of code size and efficiency it
has an advantage over standard Linux.

Changes: This release has been updated to the latest 2.4 series kernel.
