About: A.M.I.C.U.S. (Automatic Multimedia Installation Configuration
Utility System) help users quickly and easily install and configure
MythTV on generic PC hardware. It uses the Debian Netinst CD to install
Linux and the required packages to allow a minimal but functional MythTV
on low end hardware.

Changes: All major functions for installing MythTV are working. Some
configuration functions such as ivtv support and compiling from source are
still in development.

  Sat, Feb 11th 2006 10:39

Communications :: BBS
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: Ansilove/PHP is a set of tools for converting ANSi and
artscene-related file formats into PNG images. It supports ANSi (.ANS),
BiNARY (.BIN), ADF (.ADF), iDF (.IDF), TUNDRA (.TND), and XBiN (.XB)
formats. It includes an all-purpose command line converter along with a
library for use on Web pages for doing "on the fly" conversions. It
creates small 4-bit PNG files and supports SAUCE (Standard Architecture
for Universal Comment Extentions), 80x25, 80x50, Amiga fonts, and iCE
colors.

Changes: Input sanitization in the loaders (load_*.php) was added to
prevent disclosure of unauthorized content by converting files accessible
by the Web server. An .htaccess was added to restrict access (Deny to all
by default) to the "upload" directory (online converter). ".ansilove" was
added at the end of the uploaded filenames to prevent code injection if
the upload directory access isn't restricted. The uploaded file is deleted
after the conversion (online converter).

Communications
Communications :: Email
Games/Entertainment

About: comic2email uses regular expressions to extract Web-based comics
and send them to your email account as a MIME include. It can be used
instead of having to remember to actively visit a Web site, or relying on
RSS and atom files that do little more than remind you visit a Web site.
Each email includes links to the strip's homepage and supporting store. It
takes about two minutes to add another comic to your collection.

Changes: This release adds "debug", "test single comic", and "verbose"
modes, and an RFC2068-compliant user-agent. Running is now silent in
normal mode, with only errors reported to stdout. The X-Mailer email
header is now set correctly. The executable has been renamed c2e, in line
with similar Unix tools. Messages are now in mixed mode
HTML+text+attachment. This release supports 3,000 web comics, and logs
network and regexp errors and continues.

About: Comix is a user-friendly, customizable image viewer. It is
specifically designed to handle comic books, but also serves as a generic
viewer. It reads images in ZIP, RAR, or tar archives (also gzip or bzip2
compressed) as well as plain image files. It is written in Python and uses
GTK+ through the PyGTK bindings.

Changes: This version presents a few more features and a lot of small
bugfixes. MIME types for cbz, cbr, and cbt archives are now registered by
default, and Comix includes a thumbnailer for Nautilus that creates
thumbnails while browsing these files.

  by Monkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/TheTithe/)
  Sat, Feb 11th 2006 23:46

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping

About: DaemonRip runs as a Unix daemon and polls a CD drive to see if an
audio CD is inserted. When an audio CD is detected, it will automatically
connect to a CDDB server to determine the name, artists, and tracks of the
CD, and begin to rip and encode the CD using your preferred ripping and
encoding applications. When finished ripping the disc, it will be ejected
from the drive, allowing you to insert a new one to continue the process.
No other user interaction is required. This application also keeps
statistics about your ripping and encoding times, and logs all of the
actions to a log file.

Changes: Extra samples were added to the daemonrip.conf file. A problem
was fixed where when stopping the daemon it had to wait for the existing
sub process to finish prior to stopping the main daemon. A directory flag
was added to the ripping program so that it knows where to save the files
to. A problem was fixed where the genre replacement in the encoder line
was not implemented correctly. %g now works correctly.

System :: Operating System Kernels

About: FreeVMS is an OpenVMS-like operating system which can run on
several architectures like i386, PPC, Alpha, and many others. It consists
of a POSIX kernel and a DCL command line interpreter. The only
architecture currently supported is i386.

Changes: ne2k-pci support was added. A small utility to show memory is now
available. Pointer related translation errors in CMUIP IPACP were fixed.
CMUIP IPACP needed some more ordinary system calls to work properly.
PNDRIVER was missing cancel initialization. Dassgn did not use cancel.
Sch$qast did not sort ACBs according to priority. AST delivery can deliver
in user (outer) mode (but this is not enabled by default). A workaround was

[013] - GNU Transport Layer Security Library 1.2.10
  by Simon Josefsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/jas4711/)
  Sat, Feb 11th 2006 07:40

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GNU Transport Layer Security Library is a library which implements
a secure layer over a reliable transport layer such as TCP/IP. It
implements the TLS 1.1 and SSL 3.0 protocols, accompanied with
authentication methods such as X.509, OpenPGP, and SRP.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in certtool for 64 bit machines, a bug
in the non-blocking gnutls_bye(), bugs that caused memory corruption if
more than one certificate was added, a gnutls-cli STARTTLS hang which
occurred when SIGINT was sent too quickly, and a reading bug in the DER
parser. Libtasn1 0.2.18 is now required. The included libtasn1 version has
been updated. gnutls_record_send() will no longer invalidate a session if
the underlying send fails, but it will prevent future writes, to allow
reading the already-received data.

[014] - GREYCstoration 2.2
  by David Tschumperlé (http://freshmeat.net/users/dtschump/)
  Sat, Feb 11th 2006 00:57

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors

About: GREYCstoration is an image regularization algorithm that processes
an image by locally removing small variations of pixel intensities while
preserving significant global image features, such as sharp edges and
corners. The most direct application is denoising. By extension, it can
also be used to inpaint or resize images. It is based on methods using
nonlinear multi-valued diffusion PDEs (Partial Differential Equations)
for image regularization. This kind of method generally outperforms
basic image filtering techniques (such as convolution, median filtering,
etc.) classically encountered in painting programs. Other image
denoising plugins are available, but are not free, and the corresponding
algorithms are kept secret.

Changes: The algorithm is now ables to give a denoising quality criterion
(the 'Peak Signal to Noise Ratio') after denoising an image that has been
artificially corrupted by the user. This allows a numerical comparison
with other existing denoising methods. The interface was modified to show
the original, noisy, and restored images when the user has corrupted the
image with artificial noise.

Printing

About: Holodeck10 is a Java-based application that runs on Linux. The
purpose of the application is to allow the user to lay out images to be
printed. It supports the basic function that includes orientation
selection (LANDSCAPE or PORTRAIT) and layout (1x1, 1x2, 2x2, 2x3, 4x5, and
6x8). A file chooser is used with a file filter to select image types of
*.jpeg, *.jpg, *.gif, *.xpm, and *.png. The simpledoc interface is used to
prepare the document for printing.

Changes: A "Custom" layout was added. Essentially, this option enables the
user to work with 20 images on the canvas. The images can be individually
sized or moved on the page. The ability to delete individual images from
the canvas has been added to all LAYOUTs.

[025] - MailManager 2.0.7 (Stable)
  by Andrew Veitch (http://freshmeat.net/users/aveitch/)
  Sat, Feb 11th 2006 23:51

Communications :: Email
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Office/Business

About: MailManager helps teams deal with large volumes of email by
allocating mail to the right person, providing tools to help answer it
(prioritisation, reply templates, and a knowledge base), and allowing
managers to set service levels for different types of mail and report on
performance against service levels and volumes received. MailManager is
based on Zope which is required to use it. It is cross-platform, but most
of the testing has been under Linux and Mac OS X.

Changes: This release fixes a very important bug where email could
potentially be lost when collecting through POP3. The error reporting has
also been improved when sending a reply to an invalid email address. There
is also a minor fix to changing ticket status in languages other than
English. The test suite has been massively improved.

  Sat, Feb 11th 2006 03:25

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities

About: Msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. Records
need not be single lines. Key fields may be selected by position, tag, or
character range. For each key, distinct exclusions, multigraphs,
substitutions, and a sort order may be defined. Comparisons may be
lexicographic, numeric, hybrid, random, by string length, angle, date,
time, or ISO8601 timestamp. Optional keys are supported. Msort uses the
Unicode character set and provides full Unicode case-folding. The basic
program has a somewhat complex command line interface, but may be driven
by an optional GUI.

Changes: This release adds another format for angles, eliminates the
restriction of angles to 360 degrees, and fixes a bug in the handling of
negative angles.

[032] - Portable Linux Processor Affinity 1.0.2
  by Jeff Squyres (http://freshmeat.net/users/jsquyres/)
  Sat, Feb 11th 2006 23:49

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: PLPA is an attempt to solve the problem of multiple API's for
processor affinity within Linux. Specifically, the functions
sched_setaffinity() and sched_getaffinity() have numbers and types of
parameters depending on your Linux vendor and/or version of GLibc. This is
quite problematic for applications attempting to use processor affinity in
Linux for compile-time, link-time, and run-time reasons. The PLPA provides
a single processor affinity API that developers can write to in order to
get both consistent behavior and binary compatibility across different
Linux installations (assuming that you have an executable that is
otherwise binary Linux portable).

Changes: The return status of plpa_sched_[set|get]affinity() is now
ensured to be zero upon success.
