[001] - abcm2ps 4.12.8 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Tue, Feb 14th 2006 02:01

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: In addition to minor layout enhancements, a new "%%titleformat"
command was added.

Games/Entertainment

About: Acquire is a computer version of the classic board game. The goal
of the game is to make the most profit by buying stocks in companies that
form, grow, and merge as tiles are placed on the game board. This program
is a text-based version of the game and should be playable on any system
with a C++ compiler.

Changes: Many significant bugs that caused the game to crash or not follow
the rules of the game have been fixed.

[003] - AMP 0.9.1 Beta
  by Matt Pileggi (http://freshmeat.net/users/mjpledge/)
  Tue, Feb 14th 2006 10:29

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: AMP is a framework-independant Java API that enables processing of
AJAX requests in a normal MVC pattern. It is currently integrated with the
Spring framework to allow for easy configuration. It was inspired by Ruby
on Rails partials.

Changes: Spring integration now has the additional option of using
SpringAmpInterceptor instead of the servlet filter. The example
application uses the new interceptor instead of the filter, though filter
config remains commented out in web.xml.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Avahi is a framework for Multicast DNS Service Discovery
(mDNS/DNS-SD a.k.a. Zeroconf) on Linux. It allows programs to publish and
discover services running on a local network with no specific
configuration. For example, you can plug into a network and instantly find
printers to print to, files to look at, and people to talk to.

Changes: Name mappings for static hosts were added. Kernel bugs regarding
multicast group membership were worked around. ia64 portability fixes were
made. X11 is no longer required to run avahi-bookmarks. Slackware and
Fedora suppport were improved.

[009] - CACAO 0.95
  by Christian Thalinger (http://freshmeat.net/users/twisti/)
  Tue, Feb 14th 2006 05:53

About: CACAO is a JIT compiler for Java. It started as a research JavaVM
to explore new implementation techniques. It is available for Alpha, Arm,
i386, MIPS (32- and 64-bit), PowerPC (32-bit), and x86-64 architectures.

Changes: A dead-lock bug was fixed. This should fix the random dead-locks
seen in Eclipse or other applications. The search for a suitable jar
program during configure can be specified via the JAR environment
variable. The FPU on i386 is now correctly set to 64-bit on VM startup.
Longs and doubles are now handled properly for M_COPY on PowerPC. A
problem with instructions copying stackslots (like DUP_X1) was fixed. A
classcache-related problem with java.lang.reflect.Proxy was fixed.
Incorrect method resolution when calling instance methods through JNI was
fixed.

About: CloverETL is Java-based framework for creating ETL transformations.
It follows the concept of transformation graphs which consist of individual
nodes performing simple operations on data. Any transformation can be
defined as a set of interconnected nodes through which data flows.

Changes: The component2component communication object (Edge) was
reimplemented, which brings a significant performance gain. A new
datatype, Decimal, was added to allow crunching of arbitrary precision
numbers. Creation of data transformations is now easier with the new
transformation code pre-processor. Many of the reported bugs have been
fixed.

  Tue, Feb 14th 2006 00:09

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development

About: JGraph Layout Pro is a high performance graph layout library for
JGraph that automatically positions your graph, diagram, or network in a
visually pleasing manner. Layout Pro provides flexibility and a simple
design, enabling you to use circular, tree, force-directed, and
hierarchical layouts with ease. Example uses are organisational charts,
workflow and process diagrams, call charts, network diagrams, UML tools,
and more. It comes with its own documentation and an example applet.

Changes: This release adds an orthogonal edge router, which routes the
edges around the graph in horizontal and vertical segments to attempt to
avoid overlapping the vertices. A bug in isVertex() was fixed so that
vertices are not now ignored in layouts under certain conditions. The
JGraphModelFacade was introduced to provide a means to layout a graph
without a JGraph component; this is mainly intended for server-side layout
requirements. An online dynamic thesaurus example has been added. The
performance of the hierarchical layout was improved, and a number of other
bugfixes were made.

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics

About: JGraphpad Pro is a complete application framework for rapid
development of JGraph tools. It is meant for developers who wish to
provide a stand-alone, rich-client graph application. The user interface
is configurable with XML and it uses a plugin architecture for extra
functionality. It features a wide range of application components like
palette, overview, the ability to export to many image and XML formats,
copy and paste, drag and drop, rich text labels, database or backend
connectivity, and visual complexity management. You can use it to create
workflow editors, call graphs, CAD tools, network diagrams, database
visualization tools, and more.

Changes: This release adds the orthogonal layout from JGraph Layout Pro, a
triangle shape to the basic toolbox, and fixes the preferred height for
rich text so that it no longer uses the previous width. In addition, a
"switch back" option has been added to the toolbox. This allows automatic
reversion to marquee selection mode after one use of a tool. The default
is false.

  Tue, Feb 14th 2006 14:06

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Nuface is a Web-based administration tool that generates Edenwall,
NuFW, or simple Netfilter firewall rules. It features a high level
abstraction on the security policy set by the administrator, and works
internally on an XML data scheme. Its philosophy is to let you agglomerate
subjects, resources, or protocols into meta-objects, and use those meta
objects to generate ACLs, which are then interpreted as netfilter rules by
Nupyf, the internal XML parser. This tool may easily be extended to support
firewall implementations other than Netfilter.

Changes: This release introduces a handful of new features, a better XML
schema design, and better ergonomics. It handles input/output filtering
rules and NAT rules (destination NAT, source NAT, and port NAT). Rule
groups: one can activate/deactivate several rules with one click. The
administrator can specify applications for NuFW specific rules
(ApplicationPath, OSName, and OSVersion fields). New CSS.

Database
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: PHP Object Generator (POG) is a PHP code generator which generates
clean and tested object oriented code for your PHP4/PHP5 application. It
is meant to eliminate the time a PHP programmer often wastes on repetitive
coding of the database access layer of an application simply because
different applications require different objects. By generating PHP
objects with integrated CRUD methods, POG saves you from writing and
testing SQL queries.

Changes: This release adds phpdoc generation of object attributes and
support for PHP pagination through GetList().

Office/Business
Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: PHP Trouble Ticket attempts to adress the need for a centralized
means of problem reporting and tracking in multi-user environments (medium
to large companies, development groups, etc.). It helps to direct problem
reports to the responsible administrator(s), keep track of the status of a
problem being worked on, and offers an up-to-date list of recent changes
applied. PHP Trouble Ticket aims to be widely configurable, easy to use
even for the not technically inclined and multi-language capable.

Changes: When changing important properties of a ticket, the change is
being logged. The index page now auto-reloads for user levels expert and
up, keeping those users updated and logged in. PHP-TTS can now be run on
Web servers running on non-standard HTTP ports. Entries containing URLs
with commas or semi-colons are now properly interpreted. The program has
undergone a complete security audit. Documentation is also available in
German.

About: pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and aggregation
tools. A pluggable architecture allows you to store collected traffic data
into memory tables or SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite 3.x) databases. It
supports fully customizable historical data breakdown, flow sampling,
filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Libpcap, NetFlow
v1/v5/v7/v8/v9, and sFlow v2/v4/v5 are supported, both unicast and
multicast. Also, a client program makes it easy to export data to tools
like RRDtool, GNUPlot, Net-SNMP, MRTG, and Cacti.

Changes: Connection tracking modules have been introduced for FTP, SIP,
and RTSP protocols: they hint IP address/port couples for upcoming data
streams as signalled by one of the parties into the control channel. The
"pidfile" directive way of working has been improved. Various bugfixes
have been made to the classification engine.

About: Python OpenID is a set of Python packages that support use of the
OpenID decentralized identity system in your applications. It can be used
to enable single sign-on for your Web sites or for running an OpenID
server. Example code is supplied and a variety of storage back-ends are
supported.

Changes: For openid.consumer, this release has logging in more error
cases, appropriately returns SETUP_NEEDED from completeAuth(), and fixes
some occurrences of unnecessarily falling back to dumb mode. In
openid.server, there are corrections to the server's replay attack
prevention in dumb mode, and more careful checking of trust_root. In
openid.store (used by both parties), this release removes several
arbitrary field limits in the SQL stores. (This will effect newly created
stores only; old ones will continue to operate with their existing
schema.)

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: ufdbGuard is a URL filter. The URL filter blocks access to sets of
Web sites on the Internet and is designed to be used with the popular Web
proxy server, Squid. The multithreaded daemon uses a fast algorithm that
does 25,000 URL verifications/sec on an Intel 2.8 GHz CPU.

Changes: As a new feature, URLs that are not part of the URL database
(uncategorized URLs) can be uploaded to www.urlfilterdb.com for
categorisation and inclusion in the database. The URL filter can no longer
be fooled by putting an extra dot (.) after a domain name. All threads are
no longer stopped when one thread receives a fatal signal. A hard-coded
directory in the configuration file which caused "make test" to fail if
not used in /local/src/ufdbGuard-1.x was fixed. "make install" no longer
fails if "." is not in the PATH.

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: WAP

About: wapircgw allows a WAP-capable mobile phone to easily connect to IRC
networks. The only thing needed is a Linux box with an Internet connection
to act as a gateway between the phone and IRC networks. Users can join
multiple channels and talk to others privately just like when using a real
IRC client. It consists of 2 cooperative pieces: wapircphp and wapircd.
wapircd is the daemon that handles connections to IRC networks and
requests from wapircphp. wapircphp generates WML Web pages that can be
viewed with a mobile phone's WAP browser.

Changes: The $displayminlinenum configuration variable was added to
wapircphp. License information was added to index.php in wapircphp.
get_status wasn't called in wapircphp after connect_to_irc, so there were
no channels displayed and the status log was displayed first instead of
the last autojoined channel. This has been fixed. The last read marker
time in wapircphp is now stored for each opened log separately. A few
comments were added to the source code of wapircd.

PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.
