  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 13:49

Communications
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: Alex's Firewall ByPasser is another TCP tunnel for HTTP proxies. It
has been tested for MSN Messenger, emule, BitTorrent, FTP (passive only),
Yahoo! messenger, IRC (xchat), and FireFox on Fedora Core 3, FreeBSD 6.0,
and Mac OS X. It should work under all POSIX complaint systems and all
proxies allowing HTTPS CONNECT. It features a multi-threaded design,
multiple proxies, the ability to check proxy lists, a curses interface, a
daemon mode, and support for the Socks4a and Socks5 protocols.

Changes: The 'socket (339): Too many open files' bug was fixed.

[002] - AltioLive Studio 4.1.1 (Stable)
  by Altio Developer Program (http://freshmeat.net/users/altiodev/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 07:38

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: AltioLive Studio provides a development environment to rapidly
build front ends to complex Web based applications, with rich client
interactivity beyond the capabilities of the best AJAX front ends.
Included are a Visual GUI builder, a backend integration tool, and other
development tools, which allow developers to build the interface for their
applications quickly, remotely, and without touching an XML or Java editor,
so that they can get on with developing the business logic on the backend.

Changes: Failure messages are now correctly displayed after a conditional
action block failure. Searching Online Help now works correctly with
search strings written in non-Latin scripts. The help page for Detached
Windows is included.

[004] - Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP) Library for PHP 1.2
  by Dmitry Sheiko (http://freshmeat.net/users/sheiko/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 07:31

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: This package can be used to implement aspect oriented programming
(AOP) by executing the code of classes that enable orthogonal aspects at
run- time. The intention is to provide a means to implement orthogonal
aspects in separate classes that may be an interesting add to the
application, like logging, caching, transaction control, etc., without
affecting the main business logic. The package provides base classes for
implementing defining point cuts where the code of an advice class is
called to implement actions of the orthogonal aspects that an application
may need to enable.

Changes: The Aspect and Advice classes were restructured. The program
model is now more flexible. Masks were added into pointcuts. The readme
file was added.

[005] - BasKet 0.6.0 Alpha 1 D (Development)
  by Sebien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Sebien/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 06:59

About: BasKet is a desktop organization tool inspired by DropDrawers (from
www.sigsoftware.com). It uses baskets and drawers for organizing various
objects, such as text, URLs, images, sounds, or other documents. Objects
in a basket can be edited, copied, moved, dragged, and so on. This allows
you to stay organized and free your desktop, or to take notes with various
types of content (not only text) in an easy way.

Changes: This release fixes a compilation error with KDE 3.3 and
introduces a small but crucial feature: grabbing a zone of the screen to
an image note. This is easy to use and helpful. Somes bugs were also fixed
(Auto-spellCheck of text notes was disabled, etc.). Some changes pending
for Beta 1 were released as well, like the renaming of the "item" generic
concept to "note", a new Russian translation, and the beginning of
keyboard navigation.

  by Scott Gillette (http://freshmeat.net/users/scottagillette/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 22:45

Software Development :: Libraries

About: BitEvolution is an easy-to-use client/server application that you
can use to keep your distributed application up to date. Modeled after the
Apache ANT project, it is a task-based application intended to eliminate
the work required to write, test, and debug a home-grown update
application. Your distributed application does not have to be written in
Java to take advantage of BitEvolution.

Changes: A defect was fixed in the UpdateAnalyzer class, which was
reporting the wrong directory name to the user on the console.

  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 10:21

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a
CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It
supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and
ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and
human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and
can access local or remote CD writers.

Changes: This release fixes a bug introduced with release a06 that caused
cdrecord to fail because of CDR_MAXFIFOSIZE= in the case that
/etc/default/cdrecord was not present. Heiko's cdda2wav changes for
FreeBSD from 2004 have been integrated. These changes had been delayed
since they came during a code freeze phase. FreeBSD and DragonFly users
need to test whether this integration causes problems.

[013] - CoaSim 0.3 (Python)
  by Thomas Mailund (http://freshmeat.net/users/mailund_birc/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 10:22

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics

About: CoaSim is a tool for simulating the coalescent process with
recombination and gene conversion under the assumption of exponential
population growth. It efficiently constructs the ancestral recombination
graph for a given number of individuals and uses this to simulate samples
of SNP and micro satellite haplotypes/genotypes. The generated sample can
afterwards be separated in cases and controls, depending on the states of
selected individual markers. The tool can accordingly also be used to
construct cases and control data sets for association studies.

Changes: This version adds custom markers and population structure to the
Python interface.

[014] - Conary 1.0.1
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 15:10

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release is ready for production use. All UtilizeUser/Group
matches are now handled, instead of only the first one matched. This
release more strictly orders trove installation so that partially-complete
installations can be restarted correctly. It has experienced multiple
database schema changes during its development, and to ensure that the
schema is entirely consistent now, the first time this release runs, it
reloads the entire database with a fresh schema, resolving any
inconsistencies.

Security
System :: Monitoring

About: fupids2 is a so-called human oriented IDS based on the FUPIDS
project. fupids2 calculates an attacker level for every user on all
Unix/Linux/BSD systems in the network. It looks at the behavior of the
user (the programs the user uses, the daytime the user is active, the
building and room the user uses, the part of the room in which the user
sits, and so on) and reports if the user engages in behavior that is
unusual for that person. This method can often detect accounts overtaken
by attackers.

calculation of the attacker level. It can detect accounts that are used on
unusual days in this way.

About: GL2PS is a C library providing high quality vector output for any
OpenGL application. It uses sorting algorithms capable of handling
intersecting and stretched polygons, as well as non manifold objects. It
provides advanced smooth shading and text rendering, culling of invisible
primitives, mixed vector/bitmap output, and much more. It can currently
create PostScript (PS), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), and Portable
Document Format (PDF) files, as well as LaTeX files for the text
fragments.

Changes: This release fixes a bug (introduced in version 1.2.3) that could
cause sorting to be inverted in BSP-sorting mode in certain cases. This
release also adds experimental support for SVG and PGF output formats, and
provides a cleaner internal structure for adding new formats.

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: GNU polyxmass features an integrated mass spectrometry framework
where users are able to define brand new polymer chemistries (within the
polyxdef module), and use these definitions in order to make simple mass
calculations (within the polyxcalc module) or perform complex simulations
of polymer chemistry with related mass data computations (within the
polyxedit module). The framework allows full customization of every aspect
of the polymer chemistry being defined, and of the way the polymer
sequences are graphically displayed. This program was formerly called
"polyXmass".

Changes: A bug due to not selecting the proper atom definition file when
an alias polymer chemistry definition was chosen has been fixed. Note that
only the polyxmass-bin package needs an update, as the libpolyxmass
dependency is not affected.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing

About: K3b is a CD and DVD burning application for Linux systems optimized
for KDE. It provides a comfortable user interface to perform most CD/DVD
burning tasks, such as creating an audio CD from a set of audio files or
copying a CD. While the experienced user can influence all steps of the
burning process, the beginner may find comfort in the automatic settings
and the reasonable defaults which allow a quick start. The actual burning
is done by the command line utilities cdrecord, cdrdao, and growisofs.

Changes: Another bug in the ISO options code which sometimes resulted in a
failed verification was fixed. The reading device is properly closed when
copying VideoDVDs. This bug resulted in a blocked device. Handling of
filenames in the libdvdcss backend was fixed (and this fixes VideoDVD

[039] - libpcapnav 0.7
  by Christian Kreibich (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpk/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 08:04

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Networking

About: libpcapnav is a libpcap wrapper library that allows navigation to
arbitrary locations in a tcpdump trace file between reads. The API is
intentionally much like that of the pcap library. You can navigate in
trace files both in time and space. You can jump to a packet which is at
approximately 2/3 of the trace, or you can jump as closely as possible to
a packet with a given timestamp, and then read packets from there. In
addition, the API provides convenience functions for manipulating timeval
structures.

Changes: 64-bit architectures are now supported. A new API
pcapnav_timeval_init() has been added. pcapnav_timeval_add/sub() can now
safely be called with one of the input arguments as output argument.
pcapnav_dump_open() had broken linklayer compatibility checks, which are
now fixed.

[040] - Mail Avenger 0.7.4
  by xxx (http://freshmeat.net/users/fmxxx/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 07:17

Communications :: Email

About: Mail Avenger is a highly-configurable, MTA-independent SMTP server.
It lets users run messages through filters like ClamAV and SpamAssassin
during SMTP transactions, so the server can reject unwanted email before
assuming responsibility for its delivery. Other unique features include
TCP SYN fingerprint and network route recording, SPF (sender policy
framework) as a general policy language, qmail-style delivery of extension
addresses, validation of sender addresses through SMTP callbacks, mail-bomb
protection, integration with kernel firewalls, and more.

Changes: The rbl script command was fixed. The interaction of relay and
rcpt scripts was made at least a little more intuitive. mbox "From " lines
are no longer fed to sendmail, as this breaks some simple SMTP client
replacements for sendmail. A few more minor bugs were fixed.

About: MoBlock is a daemon that blocks connections from or to hosts listed
in a file in peerguardian format or ipfilter.dat files. It uses the
iptables libnetfilter_queue or ipqueue userspace library, supports all
protocols, and is very light in resource usage.

Changes: Loaded ranges are now automatically merged when overlapping or
already included ranges are found (guarding.p2p files usually have many of
these). A command line option -q has been added to specify the queue number
(only when using the NFQUEUE interface); this must match the iptables
--queue-num option. It defaults to 0 if not specified. On startup, this
release prints used options and ranges stats. It has better handling of
command line options. A string handling bug has been fixed.

object here. It was originally based on Andrew Morton's patch scripts
published on the Linux kernel mailing list a while ago, but has been
heavily modified since then.

[067] - rsyslog 1.12.2 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 07:20

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), and the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message. It is designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and
thus able to work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some
enhanced features require changing the config file, but in general, this
should be fairly easy.

Changes: This version offers an even smarter message parser, detecting
more syslog header formats. Unfortunately, there is a large variety in
header formatting among the diffent syslogds, and rsyslog now does an even
finer job at guessing how the message is formatted. Also, the release
contains support for the upcoming IETF syslog-protocol message format
standard. This is a recommended update for all users of the development
branch.

  by Dumbkiwi (http://freshmeat.net/users/dmbkiwi/)
  Wed, Feb 15th 2006 07:05

About: Su-per-Doku is a sudoku puzzle game for superkaramba. It generates
its own 9x3x3 puzzles, and has four levels of difficulty. Hints can be
toggled on or off. Possible candidates for cells can be entered and
displayed. Status messages to let the user know what's going on. An
auto-solver is included. This is a simple but robust implementation of
this very popular puzzle.

Changes: The puzzle generator and solver have been changed. The theme now
uses the engine from Python Sudoku (http://pythonsudoku.sourceforge.net).
This provides a faster and more robust generator. It also means that the
difficulty levels mean something. Previously, there wasn't much difference

About: Zoem is a general-purpose macro/programming language that submits
text to a two-stage transformation process. Macro expansion and
interpretation is followed by application of customizable character
filtering rules. Zoem supports inside-out evaluation, comprehensive IO,
control operators, iteration, dictionary stacks, multidimensional data
storage, arithmetic expressions, regular expressions, system commands, and
more. PUD (Portable Unix Documentation) is shipped with zoem. It provides
two mini-languages for authoring manpages and FAQ documents.

Changes: Zoem primitives can now be accessed using quoted syntax, and user
macros can override unquoted zoem primitives, improving extendibility and
backwards compatibility. Three counter primitives and two built-ins were
recoded as user macros now located in the new counter package. Built-ins
have moved from the user namespace to the primitive namespace. The source
code saw many clean-ups, and the documentation was improved and extended.
Macro signatures are rigorously checked and enforced. The Portable Unix
Documentation package that is shipped with zoem is described in the new
