Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which allows almost any protocol to
be supported. It supports single legged operations, either on IP-Level or
as DSR (Direct Server Return / "nPath") configuration.
Changes: A problem with the health checking of targets with the same IP
address but different ports was fixed.

Thu, Feb 16th 2006 13:28
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. It removes ads, webbugs,
and popups. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely on a
list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects ads
using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in JavaScript engine
which detects popups and js-generated ads.
Changes: Several new features were introduced: a GUI request log, an
uninstaller for the Mac OS X version, the ability to reload external
filters from the GUI, and a new NOFILTER rule for URL patterns. Bugfixes
include a fix for the HTTP/1.0 keep-alive problem, improved compatibility
with certain software firewalls, and a fix for a case that caused
unnecessary buffering of whole pages.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The Big Faceless Graph Library is a Java class library for creating
graphs and charts. It is backed by a full 3D engine, allowing you to create
shaded 3D pie, bar, and line graphs as GIF, PDF, PNG, or other image
formats. Its features include transparent backgrounds, extensible axes to
graph dates, currencies, custom fonts, and spline curve fitting. It is
small, fast, and easy to use.
Changes: This release fixes plotting of bars against a Date axis
displaying only months. It improves the layout of keys that can be
displayed in a single row. It adds "interrupt" and "isInterrupted" methods
to Graph, to interrupt rendering from another thread. It fixes license key
activation when creating graphs from Web services.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for rapidly developing search
engines on any relational database. It's scalable, fast to develop, and
fast to search. It runs on any JDBC-supported relational database. It can
work on any new systems or old legacy systems that need full-text search,
without changing existing systems. It's based on the high-performance
Lucene API. It has a Web UI for configuring data retrieval, content
indexing, and displaying templates. It can also serve as a Lucene learning
tool or RAD tool. The search results are rendered by Velocity as HTML, XML
Web service, CSV, or anything you want.
Changes: Dashboard layout changes were made. A clean Java exception is now
thrown when an index is reindexed after the configuration has changed.
$isMultiSearch is now set to true in multiSearch mode. The column name is
set to non-editable when configuring SQL and HTML is escaped in
editTemplateFile.vm. Empty partial result values are now rendered to
italic null. The SQL editing area was made wider, the font size was fixed,
and narrowBy results are now cleaned when the query is empty.

About: Echo2 is a reinvention of the Echo Web Framework built around an
AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) rendering engine. It aims to
provide a component-oriented/event-driven toolkit for developing Web
applications that approach the capabilities of rich clients.
Changes: The method in which CSS positioning is emulated in Internet
Explorer 6 browsers has been revised, resulting in a dramatic increase in
performance with this browser. Previous releases used IE's proprietary
(and very poorly performing) "CSS expressions" capability to emulate CSS
positioning when an IE6 browser was detected. The WindowPane and SplitPane
rendering peers have been updated to generate HTML on the client (rather
than sending it from the server to the client). No end-developer APIs have
been affected by these changes.

by clone1701 (http://freshmeat.net/users/clone1701/)
Thu, Feb 16th 2006 23:49
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: file\*HANDLER coordinates some free media conversion packages with
a PostgreSQL backend to index, make searchable, and serve (via httpd)
binary and text files on your HD, via the database. It's gridded streaming
of audio/video as well as flat text/'doc'/PDF/image. Media is served
transparently to your Web server; your original content is never exposed.
f\*H is constantly looking for other servers on the Internet, giving
everyone access to everyone's files. It caches media into a database on
demand, so as the network grows, the network improves. A CGI script with
embedded AJAX provides the UI. It reserves some CSS class names, so the UI
can be quickly and easily rewritten.
Changes: Besides some more general code tweaking, file\*HANDLER is now
fully compatible with a MySQL database in addition to PostgreSQL. The
MySQL implementation is slightly faster on access/load times, but slightly
more kludgy in the guts. The Postgres implementation is noticeably slower
with normal queries, slightly slower with BLOB access/creation, but is
overall more consistent.

Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical
About: The GeoServer project is a full transactional Java (J2EE)
implementation of the OpenGIS Consortium's Web Feature Server (WFS)
specification with a completely integrated Web Map Server (WMS). Users who

About: Ocrad is the GNU OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program,
implemented as a filter and based on a feature extraction method. It reads
images in pbm (bitmap), pgm (greyscale), or ppm (color) formats and

Software Development
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
About: Lint4j ("Lint for Java") is a static Java source code analyzer that
detects locking and threading issues, performance and scalability problems,
and checks complex contracts such as Java serialization by performing type,
data flow, and lock graph analysis. Lint4j features command line, Ant,
Maven, Eclipse, and Emacs integration.
Changes: The Eclipse plugin allows problems to be reported as soon as the
source is saved, and the Eclipse problem marker system allows for easy
navigation to the offending line in the source file. Java 1.0 to 1.5
source code is supported. Packages and files can be excluded from the
analysis, which is useful for generated code such as parsers, JAXB, and
Web services bindings. The warnings can be individually enabled and
disabled for each project, allowing the developer to focus on the audits
that matter for their project.
