About: A.M.I.C.U.S. (Automatic Multimedia Installation Configuration
Utility System) helps users quickly and easily install and configure
MythTV on generic PC hardware. It uses the Debian Netinst CD to install
GNU/Linux and just the required packages to allow a functional MythTV on
low end hardware.

Changes: This release added automatic clock synchronization and an
automatic MythTV frontend on boot, fixed the option for compiling MythTV
from source, added an option to compile XViD, x264, and MPlayer from
source, added the MythTV 0.19 package sources, and added a configure
frontend only option.

About: alph implements and analyzes historical and traditional ciphers and
codes, such as polyalphabetic, substitutional, and mixed employing
human-reconstructable algorithms. It provides a pipe filter interface in
order to encrypt and decrypt block text to achieve transparency. The
program is meant to be used in conjunction with external programs that
transfer data, resulting in transparent encryption or decryption of
information. The program can thus be used as a mail filter, IRC filter, IM
filter, and so on.

Changes: The Navajo code and the American civil war cypher were added. The
Hill Climbing technique was implemented as part of the analysis functions,
and the man page was updated to reflect the changes.

  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 00:04

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Command Line Content Management System (clcms, pronounced
"clickmas") is not a dynamic CMS, but a script that takes a source tree
and creates a Web site out of it. The most important design goals are:
Updates should be possible with a terminal and an editor, content is
stored in a directory tree, and there's no need for writing HTML, XML, or
the like for normal usage.

Changes: The page creation algorithm has been rewritten. There are new
default macros. You can now link to internal pages with their ID. A better
mechanism for meta info about pages has been implemented. The download size
has been greatly reduced by removing unnecessary binary files from the
examples.

  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 16:26

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard
counterpart interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into
existing code. Besides the usual features, fastutil provides
reference-based containers (which do not use equals() to compare objects)
and linked structures. Most iterators provided by fastutil classes are
bidirectional, or even implement the standard list iterator interface.

Changes: An important an particularly insidious bug in
FastBufferedInputStream has been fixed.

About: image_album generates HTML on-the-fly for the navigation of albums
of related images. It supports several different viewing modes appropriate
for different display sizes and connection speeds, and allows the viewing
of additional image info such as EXIF data. It uses CGI PATH_INFO-style
URLs (with no '?' characters) for spiderability by all search engines.

Changes: The \n was removed from the Generator meta tag, since Firefox
displays it as a funky glyph.

  by Dick Repasky (http://freshmeat.net/users/drepasky/)
  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 00:15

About: J-Bird is a record keeping system for observations of birds. In the
parlance of birders, it is bird listing software. It is oriented toward
birding trips. Information recorded includes region, trip date, locality,
keywords, notes, species observed, and notes on individual species. It can
record sightings, produce trip reports, produce composite lists such as
life lists, tally observations by category, and query sightings. Regional
checklists can be built, used to record sightings, and be included in trip
reports. Sightings can be exported to CSV tables and HTML tables.

Changes: Sightings can be imported from files of comma-separated values,
Excel spreadsheets, .dbf files, tables in Web pages, and from relational
databases. Bugs have been fixed in the tree of trips and in the tree of
checklists.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: kio-ftps is an FTPS KIO slave for KDE. It implements secure FTP
sessions based on RFC 4217 and built upon the FTP KIO-slave sources. It
should work with most server implementations. It issues an "AUTH TLS"
command after connecting and refuses to continue when it's not supported.
Prior to every data channel I/O command ("STOR", "RETR", etc.) it tries to
secure the data channel via "PBSZ" and "PROT" commands. If that fails, it
will transfer data unencrypted. There is currently no support for SSL
certificates.

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: LibreSource is a software platform dedicated to software
development and management of distributed communities. It offers
configuration management with the generic synchronization module So6 from
INRIA research. It includes numerous tools dealing with project and user
management, including bug trackers, forums, wiki pages, mailing lists,
etc. An integrated search engine (Lucene) indexes the data hosted on the
platform in full text mode. With its naming tree, LibreSource makes it
possible to hierarchize access to documents and resources. It makes it
easy to define public and private areas. Its decentralized approach makes
it possible to develop a set of robust applications while disregarding the
underlying software architecture.

Changes: This release adds better Web publishing with additional Wiki
macros, improved and extended documentation, integration of a multi-OS
installer, management of text encoding in the versioning tool So6,
recursive editing/correction of security on a whole sub-tree of resources,
strong performance improvements, an update of the integrated versioning
tool So6, and versioned Wiki pages. The latest version of JOnAS (4.6.6) is
now supported.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Heartbeat provides a heartbeat and IP address takeover functions
for a high-availability Linux cluster. It monitors the members of the
cluster and tells you when one goes down in less than a second. The
current version runs over serial ports and UDP broadcast/multicast, as
well as OpenAIS multicast. It is easily adapted to different interconnect
media and protocols. It will re-allocate IP addresses and other resources
to other members of the cluster when a machine goes down, and move them
back when it comes back up. Versions starting with 2.0 are comparable to
any commercial HA package, providing resource monitoring, larger clusters,
and detailed dependency information.

Changes: GUI management tools were added to simplify the configuration
work. Support for monitoring by Common Information Model (CIM) agents was
also added. The crm_verify tool was created for checking configuration
validity. Support for time and phase-of-the-moon based constraints was
added. Many improvements to the handling of resource groups were done. DC
order was changed to shutdown after every other node. Several memory leaks
and CPU consuming bugs were fixed.

  by Peter A. Geer (http://freshmeat.net/users/AdaHacker/)
  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 16:24

About: LnBlog is a simple Weblog with some basic site management features
that is designed for flexibility. It has few requirements and works well
in shared Web hosting situations. All data is stored in text files and the
file access module can be easily configured to work when PHP's safe mode is
enabled. Some of LnBlog's features include multiple authors, multiple
Weblogs, reader comments, trackbacks, auto-generated RSS feeds, permanent
articles, and file uploads. It also has a flexible theme and template
system, a powerful event-driven plugin system, and support for
internationalization.

Changes: This release adds a native search plugin (i.e. does not depend on
Google), support for customizable user profiles, and various cleanup and
enhancements to the post editor. It also includes a per-blog setting to
change the default markup mode for posts, a separate option to turn off
trackbacks for individual posts, fixes comment and trackback support for
articles so that they actually work, and adds a setting to the sidebar
article list to allow insertion of custom links.

  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 00:24

Education

About: MathTables is a program that helps parents teach their children how
to use the four basic math operations: addition, substraction,
multiplication, and division. It can print sheets full of math operations
for children to answer. It can also print corresponding sheets with the
solutions so that either the parents or children can work on the
corrections. MathTables is not an interactive program. MathTables simply
prints well formatted math tables for the child to solve at the dining
room table with a pencil.

Changes: The number zero can now be used in all operations. It is also
possible to specify a ceiling value for the answer when doing additions or
multiplications.

  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 07:18

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Networking

About: MIB Smithy is an application for SNMP and COPS developers, MIB and
PIB designers, and Internet-draft authors. It provides a GUI-based
environment for designing, editing, and compiling MIB and PIB modules
according to the SMIv1, SMIv2, and COPS-PR-SPPI standards. It accelerates
the development process by providing an easy-to-use GUI-based environment
for developing the specifications without the syntax and formatting
concerns of editing the modules by hand. It includes a number of built-in
basic SNMP management tools, XML support, and (with MIB Smithy
Professional) support for custom compiler output formats.

Changes: The compiler log has been redesigned into a more task-oriented
tabular form with the ability to sort by various criteria for more
efficient workflow. The SNMP Tools have been brought back in sync with
those of MIB Views (from which they had been spun off). This adds a more
"Web browser like" feel, filtering, more sorting capabilities, clipboard
support, and CSV exportation. Other performance, appearance, and usability
improvements have been made, and bugs have been fixed.

[042] - MyDBO Code Generator 2.1
  by Patrick (http://freshmeat.net/users/pbrosset/)
  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 00:50

About: MyDBO is a powerful object-oriented code generator for PHP/MySQL
Web application developers. It is designed to remove the hassle of
implementing familiar database operations (select, update, insert, etc)
over and over again when creating Web applications. It creates code for
accessing your database tables without you having to worry about
connections or SQL queries. It also allows you to approach your database
in an object-oriented fashion, thus giving you real flexibility. It uses
templates to generate code, so it is also possible to create your own
templates.

Changes: Boolean return values were added in API methods. A LIMIT argument
was added in the tableCollector of the businessAPI plugin. The number of
queries to execute when using Collector was reduced to 1. The use of
database connections was optimized, and $DB is now a global variable.
Memory is allowed increased to 16M. The ADOdb installation was customized
to be minimal. instantAdmin was updated with a new API. Collector classes
can now return the number of results only.

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Sh is a programming language built on top of C++. It can be used to
write shaders that run on top of modern graphics processing units (GPUs),
or write stream programs that run on GPUs or CPUs. It is implemented as a
C++ library, and allows programs to be generated at run-time using a
number of metaprogramming techniques. Variants of programs for different
cases can easily be generated, or programs can be generated entirely at
run-time from some input data. The system is cleanly separated into a
frontend and backend, and is hence portable.

Changes: This is the second release candidate for the stable release of
Sh. It fixes most issues related to 64-bit operating systems, ATI GPUs,
Visual Studio 2005, and Mac OS X. Aside from a number of small bugfixes,
two memory leaks have also been eliminated and the dead code remover has
been improved. An SDL example is now available in the examples directory
along with Visual Studio project files for all other examples.

About: smtp-vilter is a high-performance content filter for sendmail,
which detects email viruses and spam. It can pass, discard, or simply mark
an email based on the results of a content scan. It relies on third-party

communicate with sendmail, and backends to communicate with the actual
scanning engines. The backends can be chained to perform a series of
checks on each message in one run.

Changes: smtp-vilter is now rock solid even under the highest load. It has

  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 16:20

About: Wiclear aims to provide a simple, small, and accessible wiki. It
supports the XHTML and CSS W3C specifications. There is a simple install
program and an admin panel. All content is classified via a tree-like
structure. The wiki in itself is easily themeable (same capabilities as
dotclear), is multilingual, commentable, and supports history, diffs, and
editions. There are several types of users: admins, moderators, and simple
users. Moderators and admins can edit ACLs to reduce the number of people
allowed to modify a particular page. They can remove comments or
particular version of the content. Admins can edit/delete users, create
groups, edit them, set global rights (anonymous post, anonymous comments,
etc.), change themes, etc.

processors (scaled down, midtones expanded for inkjet print quality, etc.)
It is suitable for documents as well as Web graphics, but also has business
application (credit cards, promo graphics) and educational uses (pictures
of all US presidents, all country flags, all US states, historical
figures, and a sign language alphabet).

Changes: A large clipart addition was done. The hard-coded paths to the

  Fri, Feb 17th 2006 12:02

System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Xdialog is designed to be a drop-in replacement for the dialog and
cdialog programs. It converts any terminal-based program into a program
with an X interface. The dialogs are easier to see and use, and Xdialog
adds more functionality such as a help button and box, a treeview, an
editbox, file and directory selectors, a range box, and a calendar. It
uses GTK+, and will match your desktop theme.

Changes: This release adds the --timeout transient option. It fixes a
problem with some patched GTK versions and the --rc-file option. There is
still an issue left with fixed fonts for XDIALOG_HIGH_DIALOG_COMPAT mode
(with Mandrake's GTK+ packages). A custom log message handler has been
implemented to prevent GTK/GDK/GLIB from using stdout as the message
output. XDIALOG_NO_GMSGS environment variable support has been added to
forbid (when TRUE) emission of GTK/GDK/GLIB messages on stderr.
Preliminary GTK2 support (still broken) has been added.
