Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Af-Arch is an N-tier development framework to quickly build
high-quality distributed applications. It currently supports C and C#
programming languages, which enables you to write client applications
using them. It currently runs on GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows, and is
being used in production environments.
Changes: This major stable release added many interesting features,
library dependencies news, a new API to make life easier, and improved
memory efficiency. The GDA library is no longer required. AfGs, the server
side support for Af-Arch, now includes built-in database abstraction
support, which was implemented to fit better with the Af-Arch framework.

Software Development :: Libraries
System
About: asmutils is a set of miscellaneous utilities written in assembly
language, targeted on embedded systems and small distributions (e.g.
installation or rescue disks). It also contains a small libc and a crypto
library. It is optimized for size, memory usage, and speed, and offers
fairly good functionality. The project supports Linux and the BSD family.
Unixware, Solaris, and AtheOS support is in beta stage. This package also
aims to provide a portable development framework, and to encourage
assembly programmers to write for Linux/Unix.
Changes: cda2raw, idea, md5, ksyms, lsusb, deflate/inflate, telnetd,
users, and gi utilities were added. Various bugfixes were made along with
improvements to the existing utilities. An update was made to the latest
version of nasm.

[003] - BlockHosts 1.0.4
by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
Sat, Feb 18th 2006 13:52
System :: Networking
About: BlockHosts is a script to record how many times "sshd" or "proftpd"
is attacked. When a particular IP address exceeds a configured number of
failed login attempts, that IP address is added to /etc/hosts.allow, with
the deny option. A check is also made for stale entries in hosts.allow,
and these will then be deleted.
Changes: Handling of vsftpd was improved. The documentation on the
shortcomings of using blockhosts for vsftpd was updated.

by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Sat, Feb 18th 2006 04:02
Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities
About: Msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. Records
need not be single lines. Key fields may be selected by position, tag, or
character range. For each key, distinct exclusions, multigraphs,
substitutions, and a sort order may be defined. Comparisons may be
lexicographic, numeric, hybrid, random, by string length, angle, date,
time, or ISO8601 timestamp. Optional keys are supported. Msort uses the
Unicode character set and provides full Unicode case-folding. The basic
program has a somewhat complex command line interface, but may be driven
by an optional GUI.
Changes: Key selection by position was extended to allow keys to span
contiguous fields from one position to another, where a position consists
of a field number and a character offset. This makes selection by position
approximately like GNU sort.

Software Development :: Testing
About: TRIPP is a utility to rewrite incoming and outgoing IP packets.
Since it can rewrite both headers and payload, it can be used to configure
the TCP/IP stack behavior in order to perform various tasks mainly intended
for network tests, simulations, and development. It is configured via a
small rule-based language, which allows the user to intercept packets, set
arbitrary header values, increment or decrement numeric header fields, set
an arbitrary payload, rewrite parts of the payload, or fragment, multiply,
or drop packets. It is totally user-level and doesn't require any kernel
module.
Changes: A rewriter for incoming traffic, the ability to preserve the
original tcp_options values, fragments sorting support, a fake ARP daemon,
raw IP support, a print action, and multithreading were added. A bug in the
tcp_options handler, some parsing bugs, and a bug in fragment offset
calculation were corrected.
