Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
About: FUPlayer is a full featured music manager and player for the GNOME
desktop. With it, you can play music from your hard drive, create
playlists, do real file management using its Trash, and play, rip, and
burn audio CDs. It features an interface similar to those of many modern
manager-style players, but with many improvements, such as true non-modal
search and browse functionality, find-as-you-type, and drag destination
highlighting. It aims to be extremely user friendly and efficient to use.
Changes: The GUI and underlying model were fundamentally redesigned.
FUPlayer now uses an iTunes-style interface. The new interface is very
snappy and does not suffer from the performance issues of 0.11. Having no
CDROM drive no longer breaks FUPlayer. Support for MusicBrainz extended
metadata was added. Proper multi-artist album support was added.
MusicBrainz disc metadata is cached for offline use. CD metadata is now
editable. The program now warns the user if ripping a CD will overwrite
existing files. GNOME session awareness was added. A more conventional
Major.Minor.Micro version naming is now used.

[029] - Internet DJ Console 0.5.8
by Stephen Fairchild (http://freshmeat.net/users/psoriasis/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 18:00
About: Internet DJ console is a graphical shoutcast/icecast client that
runs under GTK+ and the JACK audio connection kit. In short, it's an
Internet radio app for making a live radio show or podcast. Features
include two main media players with a crossfader, a jingle player,
microphone signal processing (compressor and noise gate), IRC track
announcements with X-Chat, an automatic stream shut-off timer, MP3 or Ogg
streaming and recording at various bit rates, aux input for connecting
external JACK aware applications, and audio level meters.
Changes: Fixes a bug that would cause IDJC to lock up when an incorrect
server password was supplied. Locale no longer defaults to en_US. Data
about bitrate, sample rate, and number of channels is now sent to the
server. An EXTM3U option has been added to the prefs to allow the
disabling of extended m3u processing. The playlist save feature now has a
default filename. IDJC now works when /dev/shm is not world writable. The
file chooser now supports multiple selections. Listen and Stream buttons
now work in Basic Streamer mode. A 192kbps streaming mode for MP3 has been
added.

[030] - Java2Excel 1.0
by epere4 (http://freshmeat.net/users/epere4/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 01:26
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Java2Excel is a simple Java library to allow the creation of Excel
files based on Java Collections. Each element of the collection goes in a
row and the columns are based on the properties you define through an XML
config file.
Changes: This was a major upgrade and many things were changed. This
version is not backwards compatible. It is now possible to make Excel
files out of Java Collections without even suppling an XML configuration
file by getting properties through reflection. You can combine both
methods and use the XML file to configure only those Excel columns that
reflection can't get automatially and let the library guess the rest of
them. There was a major refactoring done in the DTD.

Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 21:40
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: lftp is a sophisticated command line based file transfer program.
Supported protocols include FTP, HTTP, SFTP, and FISH. It has a
multithreaded design allowing you to issue and execute multiple commands
simultaneously or in the background. It also features mirroring
capabilities and will reconnect and continue transfers in the event of a
disconnection. Also, if you quit the program while transfers are still in
progress, it will switch to nohup mode and finish the transfers in the
background. Additional protocols supported: FTP over HTTP proxy, HTTPS and
FTP over SSL. There are lots of tunable parameters, including rate
limitation, number of connections limitation and more.
Changes: This release fixes a coredump in cls (option parsing), a problem
with shutting down an SSL connection gracefully, an abortion when
completing with cmd:remote-completion set to false, secure FTP with
ProFTPD server, and netrc usage when no user name is given. New options
and settings include cmd:time-style (which imports the TIME_STYLE
environment variable) and dns:max-retries. PROPFIND is first used to check
directory existence (when using HTTP). The cache is flushed when changing
ftp:charset. All queued commands are shown on the "queue" command. Open
ranges are supported for "mirror --size-range". The dns:fatal-timeout
setting was changed to accept time interval suffixes.

[065] - QuickFIX/J 1.0.0 Beta 3
by Steve Bate (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevebate/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 23:32
About: QuickFIX/J is an implementation of the FIX (Financial InterXchange)
protocol based on the popular C++ version of the engine.
Changes: This release added compatibility with the features in the
QuickFIX C++ 1.11.0 release. It also has a significantly improved
networking layer (using Apache MINA), improved support for failover in
socket acceptors, upgraded logging capabilities, improved data dictionary
loading features, and support for time zones with defined session
schedules. Therewere also some minor bugfixes. For developers, even if you
don't use the FIX messaging protocol, you might find the extensive code

[066] - Remote Python Call 2.35
by ganges master (http://freshmeat.net/users/gangesmaster/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 10:37
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
Software Development :: Testing
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Remote Python Call (RPyC) is a Python library for distributed
computing and RPC. It gives you control of a slave Python interpreter
(local or remote), which works on your behalf (either synchronously or
asynchronously). Unlike other RPCs, it is transparent, which means you
work with remote objects as you would work with local ones. Moreover, it
is symmetrical, so you can use callbacks, etc.
Changes: This release fixes a potential bug in Connection.close. It
converts FullyDyanmicMetaClass to a function (instead of a class).
Metaclasses are too magical by themselves, so this avoids over-doing it.
This caused trouble with __doc__ of netproxies, but a way was found around
it. Docstrings have been added throughout the code. The servers have been
updated.

[067] - Simple persistence for Java 1.0.1
by Robert (http://freshmeat.net/users/demonofthesystem/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 10:01
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Simple persistence for Java is an object/relation mapping framework
for Java. It is designed to be easy to use. There are no XML files to
write, no tables to create, no IDs to generate, and no primary keys to
fiddle with; just point it to the database, check the API documentation
for three basic methods, and code away. It supports transactions, has its
own simple query language (very similar to SQL), and can handle object
references, lists, and maps.
Changes: All junit tests are running, and all planned features are
working.

by Becky Mc (http://freshmeat.net/users/beckymc/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 00:45
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Internet
About: SipUnit provides a class library that allows software developers to
create automated unit tests for SIP applications. Session Initiation
Protocol (SIP) is widely used for providing telephone services over the
Internet. SipUnit extends the JUnit framework to incorporate SIP-specific
assertions, and it provides a high-level API for performing the SIP
operations needed to interact with or invoke a test target. A test program
using the SipUnit API is written in Java and acts as a network element that
sends/receives SIP requests and responses.
Changes: Client-side SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY handling (Type II) was added. A
utility class to simulate a presence server for the purpose of testing a
Type II client was added. An asynchronous version of makeCall() and more
SipTestCase methods (such as assertAnswered() and
assertResponseReceived(x)) were added. The example directory structure in
binary distribution packaging was fixed. Miscellaneous bugs were fixed.

by Ben Crowell (http://freshmeat.net/users/bcrowell/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 14:01
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
About: Spotter is software that can check students' answers to symbolic
and numerical problems in math and science. It recognizes an answer
regardless of the form it's in, and the instructor can put in helpful
hints as responses to frequently-occurring mistakes. Symbolic answers can
be input in a notation closely resembling normal human math notation
(e.g., xy rather than x*y, and sin x instead of sin(x)). Spotter runs as a
Perl CGI application on a Web server; the student doesn't need to install
any software.
Changes: A bug has been fixed that made the program unnecessarily slow
when checking purely numerical answers.

[074] - Stripes Web Framework 1.2
by Tim Fennell (http://freshmeat.net/users/tfenne/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 21:32
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Stripes is a framework that makes building Java Web applications as
easy as it should be. It uses annotations to meet the goal of zero external
configuration. It includes simple yet powerful solutions to common problems
such as indexed properties, multi-event forms, localization, and use of
domain objects in the Web tier. All of this is contained in a compact
framework with hardly any dependencies.
Changes: This release contains several major areas of new functionality as
well as many smaller enhancements and bug fixes. A new system, called
Wizard Forms, was added for automatically handling wizard (multi-page)
forms. The new Flash Scope feature is used to make objects from the
current request cycle available to the next request cycle. A new
ActionResolver implementation, NameBasedActionResolver, was added. Value
population and re-population for form field tags is now handled by a

by Benjamin Rossi (http://freshmeat.net/users/benrossi/)
Wed, Feb 22nd 2006 00:51
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
System :: Networking
About: TCPDuP is a command-line networking utility that can proxy TCP
service to a remote host:port pair, thus duplicating the availability of
that service. It differs from using netcat and a named pipe in that it
supports multiple concurrent connections. It is also faster than using a
pipe and netcat due to less overhead and use of asynchronous I/O. Other
features include local command execution, a daemon mode, and verbose
output/logging.
Changes: This is the initial release of TCPDuP. So far it features
proxying of TCP host:port combinations, proxying of locally executed
commands, high performance multiple concurrent streams, a daemon mode, an
optional Nagle delay algorithm, and graceful exiting via signalling.
