About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: Minor bugfixes and performance improvements were done.

System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Tue, Feb 21st 2006 04:59
System :: Hardware
About: Gizmo Daemon is a program for controlling your computer based on
events from input devices. It has built-in support for all Linux input
devices, including keyboards with special keys, joysticks, remotes, dials,
and more. It lets you control applications, launch programs, change the
system volume, switch desktops, and directly control XMMS/BMP. It has
special support for the Griffin PowerMate USB Dial, allowing certain
events to be visualized on the PowerMate's LED (such as XMMS/BMP sound
output, CPU usage, etc.). It features support for IR LIRC based Remotes as
well as RF Remotes (such as the ATI X10 Remote), allowing it to have
per-application key mappings and configurable sensitivity settings (handy
for MythTV users). It also has XOSD support for (TV-friendly) on-screen
displays.
Changes: This is mainly a maintenance release and fixes all known bugs
that came in after the 2.0 release. The short list includes fixes for
GCC4, 64-bit users, distribution-specific XMMS issues, and many small
problems in the config script, especially relating to the PowerMate, but
quite a few in relation to Remotes as well. There were also a couple of
new features added, such as support for the hardware pulsing mode of the

Software Development :: Documentation
System
About: The Heirloom Documentation Tools provide troff, nroff, and related
utilities to format manual pages and other documents for output on
terminals and printers. They are portable and enhanced versions of the
respective OpenSolaris utilities, which descend from ditroff and the
historical Unix troff. troff provides advanced typographical features such
as kerning, tracking, and hanging characters. It can access PostScript Type
1, OpenType, and TrueType fonts directly. Internationalized hyphenation,
international paper sizes, and UTF-8 input are supported.
Changes: Words containing hyphens or em dashes are now hyphenated. The
size of the space character can now be adjusted for each single font; for
monospaced fonts, the space size from the respective metrics file is used
automatically. Non-ASCII small capitals in Type 1 "expert" fonts are
properly mapped to lowercase input characters now. Additional conditions
and numeric expressions are available. Line numbers in diagnostic messages
have been fixed. tbl and pic have been changed so that they do not provoke
troff warnings. CFF data from OpenType fonts is now ASCII-encoded in
PostScript output.

by Greg Brown (http://freshmeat.net/users/greg7224/)
Tue, Feb 21st 2006 14:48
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
About: HighLine was designed to ease the tedious tasks of doing console
input and output with low-level methods like gets() and puts(). It
provides a robust system for requesting data from a user, without needing
to code all the error checking and validation rules and without needing to
convert the typed Strings into what your program really needs.
Changes: This release adds ERb escape processing for lists so that you can
easily colorize a list, and also fixes an issue with EOF in input so that
it is now properly handed. It adds documentation and examples for the new
features and fixes all reported bugs.

[031] - Kitikat 6.02
by KitiKat (http://freshmeat.net/users/kitikat/)
Tue, Feb 21st 2006 14:42
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Kitikat Java Framework is a powerful but simple Datastore
processing framework. A Datastore represents an in-memory copy of data. A
program may retrieve the data from a data source, such as a relational
database, manipulate the data, and then propagate the updates of the data
back to the original data source or to a different data source. Once the
data is retrieved, it is a disconnected, data source independent version
of the data. A change history of the data is maintained to provide dynamic
updates to a data source, and there are several levels of concurrency
control provided for multi-user environments.

Tue, Feb 21st 2006 14:50
About: Klementine is a Java program for remote mail retrieval, filtering,
and forwarding. Regular expressions can be applied to the mail header
fields and thus characterize the messages as spam or ham. Identified spam
will be deleted directly on the server. It is most useful for people
retrieving their mail through dialup connections. It features retrieval
from both POP3 servers and IMAP servers, and supports delivery to SMTP
servers or STDOUT. Address information to build white lists can be
retrieved from LDAP servers.
Changes: The graphical user interface is now completed. A script to create
initial configuration settings was added. The result summary is stored
after each run for generation of history reports. Each (rejecting) rule
may now be configured to not delete a matching email message on the
server, but instead just leave it there.

About: Plait (pronounced "play") is a music query system and music player
front end. It understands brief, easy to type queries that pick a single
song, mix queries that combine works from multiple artists, and stream
queries that find Shoutcast radio streams. A variety of filters are

supported music players.
Changes: This release introduces a playlist optimizer that enables several
new features. Playlist balancing selects approximately equal numbers of
cuts from each artist in a mix. You can also weigh the balance by
repeating hints. Patterns allow you to reorder the tracks in a playlist

[062] - smrt 0.1 beta
by Pio (http://freshmeat.net/users/piough/)
Tue, Feb 21st 2006 04:02
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: smrt is a powerful command-line tool that eases the process of
renaming and tagging MP3 and Ogg files. Its main feature is the ability to
identify tracks by making educated guesses, based on filename and tag data,
against a gigantic database of all known CDs derived from the FreeDB
project. This database may reside locally or on a remote network server.
It is also capable of tagging a file by its name, or naming a file by its
tag. All operations are extremely configurable. Powerful regular
expression options are available for mangling and unmangling filenames and
indicating how to divine metadata from a given filename. A simple
configuration file allows you to set very complex and useful defaults for
your collection's naming format.

[063] - SMS Server Tools 2.0.4
by Stefan Frings (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfrings/)
Tue, Feb 21st 2006 14:30
Communications
About: The SMS Server Tools (smstools) were made to send and receive SMS
from one or many GSM modems. They include a send/receive daemon and some
sample scripts to build an SMS email gateway and for logging into an SQL
database. The daemon waits for files in an outgoing spool directory and
sends them. It puts all received SMS in an incoming spool directory, and
can call any external program for incoming or outgoing notification. This
software support text messages in 7 and 16 bits (UCS2), as well as 8 bit
binary messages.
Changes: This release fixes empty modem name in log file entries and the
alarm handler.

[064] - Snoop 0.2.0
by Florin Malita (http://freshmeat.net/users/mali/)
Tue, Feb 21st 2006 08:16
Security
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: Snoop is a GNU/Linux file descriptor monitoring tool inspired by
FreeBSD's 'watch'. It goes beyond simple TTY snooping by allowing the
interception of any file descriptor. You can attach on the fly to regular
files, TTYs, named pipes, character devices, and pretty much anything
that is represented by a file descriptor and addressable in the standard
name space. It currently supports only recent 2.6 Linux kernels.
Changes: This version introduces the ability to attach to virtually any
type of file descriptor (regular files, sockets, pipes, etc.) using the
/proc/[pid]/fd/[fd#] file name format.

[065] - Social Networks Visualiser 0.40
by Dimitris B. Kalamaras (http://freshmeat.net/users/oxy86/)
Tue, Feb 21st 2006 04:05
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Social Networks Visualiser (SocNetV) imports and exports various
network file formats (pajek, sociomatrix, dot) and displays the network on
screen. It can create random networks (lattice, same degree, etc.). The
user can visually modify an existing network or draw a new one using the
mouse. Network and actor properties, such as distances, centralities,
diameter, etc., can easily be computed.
Changes: Stress and graph centrality was implemented. Bugs in centrality
calculation were fixed and the layout of centrality reports was
simplified. The circular layout was fixed by degree, closeness, and
betweeness. The circular layout by centralities now shows helpful
red-dashed circles.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering
About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields
defined on two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) structured and
unstructured meshes. It was designed to interactively handle very large
data set sizes in the terascale range, and works well down to small data
sets in the kilobyte range.
Changes: This release adds many new features and fixes some bugs. It can
compare data from multiple simulations by mapping data from one mesh onto
another mesh. It can record your interactions with the GUI into executable
Python code macros. Scalable rendering can leverage graphics cards, making
hardware acceleration and parallel execution a reality. This release can
read data from the Chombo package and ZeusMP astrophysics code.

[069] - Web Performance Analyzer 1.3 Build 2160
by Michael Czeiszperger (http://freshmeat.net/users/czei/)
Tue, Feb 21st 2006 14:28
About: Web Performance Analyzer is a Web performance tool that allows
designers to measure, analyze, estimate, and track Web page performance.
It is available as a standalone program and an Eclipse plugin. WPA
captures Web pages as you browse and reveals dynamic HTTP requests,
forwards, and other low-level details that aren't visible from a browser.
But unlike other simple protocol sniffers, WPA can tell you if your Web
pages are getting faster or slower by replaying recorded sessions and
comparing the current performance to previous measurements.
Changes: Among other fixes, it includes the ability to suppress browser
warnings when recording SSL, support for IPv6, an improved browser proxy
configuration mechanism, and a detailed log during replay of test cases.

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
About: X10 is a type-safe, modern, parallel, distributed object-oriented
language intended to be very easily accessible to Java programmers. It is
targeted to future low-end and high-end systems with nodes that are built
out of multi-core SMP chips with non-uniform memory hierarchies, and
interconnected in scalable cluster configurations. X10 highlights the
explicit reification of locality in the form of places; lightweight
activities embodied in async, future, foreach, and ateach constructs;
constructs for termination detection and phased computation; the use of
lock-free synchronization; and the manipulation of global arrays and data
structures.
Changes: This release fixes some minor bugs in the code generator for
atomic sections. The type checker was improved substantially and now works
for simple distribution operations. In addition to the X10 compiler
front-end and interpreter backend, a new backend that generates C code was
started. The new C backend already supports constants, (virtual) calls,
exceptions, branches, allocation, and get/put operations.
