[001] - ACE 5.4e (Riverace Fix Kits)
  by Steve Huston (http://freshmeat.net/users/shuston/)
  Fri, Mar 31st 2006 14:16

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.

Changes: This release contains all Riverace fixes made to ACE 5.4 since it
was released. It includes all fixes in previous Fix Kits (5.4a through
5.4d) as well as new support for the following platforms: AIX 5.3 on
eServer pSeries with XL C/C++ 7, HP-UX 11iv2 (11.23) on PA-RISC with aC++
A.03.65, HP-UX 11iv2 (11.23) on Itanium2 with aC++ A.06.05, Solaris 10 on
SPARC with Sun Studio 10, and Solaris 10 on AMD-64 with Sun Studio 10.

[003] - Active Block I/O Scheduling System 13
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Fri, Mar 31st 2006 13:30

System :: Filesystems
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: ABISS (Active Block I/O Scheduling System) is an extension for the
Linux kernel that implements priorities for disk IO operations, and that
provides a means for applications to use these priorities to obtain
real-time (e.g. a guaranteed data rate) and prioritized best-effort
services. The kernel code is supported by a user space daemon and a
library.

Changes: Updated to Linux 2.6.16.1. The compatibility layer has been moved
from a global handler into each ioctl in each filesystem supported by
ABISS. CFQ is now supported. Power management and overlap handling have
been disabled for this version.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Playing

About: Adcd is a text mode CD player for GNU/Linux. It features all the
functions expected in a compact disc player, including playing selected
tracks, random playing, and continuous playing. It may be used in
interactive (full screen) or non-interactive (command line) modes.

Changes: The argument of the "volume" option has been made optional. When
no argument is supplied, it shows the current volume level. The argument
of the "play" option has been made optional. When no argument is supplied,
it plays from track 1. A new argument parser that replaces "getopt_long"
has been added.

[006] - adesklets 0.6.1
  by S.Fourmanoit (http://freshmeat.net/users/syfou2/)
  Fri, Mar 31st 2006 14:43

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: adesklets is an interactive Imlib2 console for the X Window System.
 It provides to scripted languages a clean and simple way to write great
looking, mildly interactive desktop integrated graphic applets (aka
"desklets"). It can also be used as a command line oriented graphics
editor, a bit similar to ImageMagick, but with different functionality.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. It compiles without warnings on all gcc
4.x releases while retaining compatibility with all previous versions of
the compiler. A new test/timing.py framework was added to help diagnose
potential timing issues.

[007] - Arg_parser 0.1
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Fri, Mar 31st 2006 19:19

Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Arg_parser is an argument parser that follows POSIX and GNU
conventions for command line arguments. It is implemented as a C++ class,
and is simpler, easier to use, and safer that "getopt_long". Arg_parser
does not modify its arguments, nor uses any global variables. So you may
create more than one parser in your program if you need or want to.
Arg_parser can also parse options from configuration files. To use
Arg_parser in your own programs simply copy the files "arg_parser.h" and
"arg_parser.cc" in your sorce tree. See also the file "main.cc" for an
example of use.

Information Management :: Records Management
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Bibliography

About: BibTexGui is an editor for BibTeX files. It helps by providing
lists of available entries and their required and optional elements. It
also removes the need to think about braces and brackets.

Changes: This version has various user interface improvements. It also has
a corrected parser that can handle parentheses in the items among various
other fixes. It works with JDK 1.5 only. Adding items works better. The
positioning is left to the native window manager. The abstract box
properly resizes while writing the abstract. The main fix is the parser
that accepts a lot more BibTeX variations and doesn't choke on certain
things. The automatic parenthesizing is also smarter.

high-quality Postscript can be output for publication.

Changes: The order of element definition has changed: you select
series/parallel first, then the actual component. Only the possible
components in each case are shown. This caused quite a few changes in
aux.c. An error in setting the component buttons has been solved. Changing

Information Management :: Records Management

About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in the subscription engine that could
prevent users from subscribing correctly to alerts. Several other bugs
have been fixed and minor features added.

Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: Otk is a portable widget library for making graphical user
interfaces for C programs. It emphasizes simplicity for the application
programmer without eliminating capability. Based on OpenGL, Otk supports
Linux, Unix, and other OSs neutrally and efficiently. It is simple and
compact, and it strives for easy compilation and linking to other
applications. In seeking to address several issues associated with earlier
graphics APIs, Otk explores some interesting methods, such as
window-relative layout instead of pixel-based layout.

Changes: Functions were added for displaying images within GUI panels. The
new OtkMakeImagePanel function complements the previous OtkMakePanel
functions by creating image-textured panels. An image file reader was
added, which reads image files and creates rectangular panels containing
the images. This feature is useful for displaying icons and logos, or for
adding arbitrary background textures in GUIs. Documentation about the
image function was added to the Otk website. This version also includes
some code cleanups to reduce compiler warnings and to better support
64-bit systems.

About: Seek & Destroy Music Duplicates is a tool for locating and removing
duplicated music files. It does not crash on corrupted files and normally
suggests the best song from amongst the duplicates. It uses an incremental
scanning strategy and uses relatively few system resources. MP3, Ogg, WMA,
