[001] - Active port forwarder 0.8.1
  by jeremian (http://freshmeat.net/users/jeremian/)
  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 02:05

System :: Networking

About: Active port forwarder uses SSL for secure packet tunneling. It is
designed for people without an external IP who want to make some services
available on the Internet. afserver is placed on the machine with a
publicly accessible address, and afclient is placed on the machine behind
a firewall or masquerade. This makes the second machine visible to the
Internet. Running afserver does not require root priviledges, nor does it
use other processes. Zlib is used to compress the transferred data.

Changes: Apart from many bugfixes, large parts of the code were completely
rewritten. Moreover, clients idle time has been added with the possibility
to set its maximum value.

  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 05:59

Communications :: Chat
System :: Networking

About: ad-tolk enables Wi-Fi enabled machines that are within range of
each other to automatically setup their wireless interfaces by calculating
IP addresses based on their MAC addresses (in the range 10.0.0.0/8) and
joining an ad-hoc cell called "livefolio". Afterwards, all nodes can
discover their neighbors and start exchanging text messages without any
manual network configuration.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts.
The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module
autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to
analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and
timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured
kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free
applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the
ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins,
PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration
program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.

Changes: Several off-by-one errors were fixed. Support for older kernels
was improved. Many drivers were fixed or enhanced.

[005] - AsItHappens 0.31
  by Mark Abrahams (http://freshmeat.net/users/markabrahams/)
  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 13:48

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: AsItHappens is a real-time network statistics collector and
grapher. It collects data from devices over a network via ICMP and SNMP
and displays them on a graph, optionally storing collected data in a
database for later retrieval. Collection types include network response,
bandwidth usage, processor usage, memory usage, Cisco NBAR, and Cisco
NetFlow. AsItHappens polls data in regular intervals, which can be as
short as every second, to give immediate feedback on network performance.
AsItHappens can also graph flow information from packet capture files.

Changes: This release contains one new feature and several bugfixes. The
new feature is the automated database check and initialization at
run-time, which removes the need to run command line database creation
scripts. Two bugs in handling large amounts of data are fixed, one of
which caused only partial graphs of large stored data volumes to display.
The export data function now works, and a bug causing perpetual high
values in the Windows response collector is fixed.

[017] - Common UNIX Printing System 1.2rc2
  by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 13:40

Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

Changes: This release candidate fixes all reported bugs in 1.2rc1.

[018] - ConfigObj 4.3.0
  by Fuzzyman (http://freshmeat.net/users/fuzzyman/)
  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 17:26

About: ConfigObj is a simple but powerful config file reader and writer
for Python applications. It is very easy to use and has a straightforward
programmer's interface and a simple syntax for config files. It also
supports nested sections to any level, list values, multiple line values,
string interpolation, a powerful validation system, including automatic
type checking and conversion, repeated sections, default values,
preservation of comments and the order of keys and sections, and no
external dependencies.

Changes: This release moves the tests and the CHANGELOG (etc) into a
separate file. This has reduced the size of "configobj.py" by about 40%.
There are several bugfixes. Empty keys are now valid syntax (with an
option for writing them if necessary). There is a copy mode for creating
default config files from config specs, and a new "unrepr" mode for
storing/retrieving basic Python data types.

[024] - g4u 2.2beta2
  by hubertf (http://freshmeat.net/users/hubertf/)
  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 01:09

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration

About: g4u ("ghost for unix") is a boot-floppy/CD that allows one to
easily clone PC hard disks by using FTP. This is often done to deploy a
common setup on a number of PCs. The floppy/CD offers two functions: it
uploads the compressed image of a local hard disk to an FTP server, and
then it can retrieve that image via FTP, uncompress it, and write it back
to disk. Network configuration is fetched via DHCP. As the hard disk is
processed as an image, any filesystem and operating system can be deployed
using g4u. Easy cloning of local disks as well as partitions is also
supported.

Changes: The most imortant changes are not user-visible, but are in the

  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 10:45

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup

About: The MfGames.Template library is a C# native library for creating
template libraries. It was inspired by NVelocity, but was designed from
the ground up to use the CIL internals, such as System.CodeDom and
internal compilation to handle the template language. Because of this, it
supports C# code as the template "language". In addition, compiled
templates are actually compiled down into bytecode using the built-in
compiler.

Changes: Templates may now be precompiled into a C# file, suitable for
inclusion in the normal compile process. The <%# %> tag set has been added
to allow the creation of template variables and additional methods. The <%@

makes it easy to separate your UI programs from your daemon programs. This
separation make building and testing both UI and daemon easier. When using
RTA, your UI programs think they are talking to a PostgreSQL database. The
PostgreSQL bindings for C and PHP work, as does the PostgreSQL command line
tool, psql.

Changes: This release cleans the YACC grammar, fixes minor bugs, and
removes support for FUSE.

Software Development
System :: Operating System

About: SchilliX is an OpenSolaris-based live CD and distribution that is
intended to help people discover OpenSolaris. When installed on a hard
drive, it also allows developers to develop and compile code in a pure
OpenSolaris environment. SchilliX tries to be as Sun Solaris compatible as
possible and to be the optimum development platform for Solaris and
OpenSolaris.

Changes: Updated to use OpenSolaris Nevada Build 36. An SVr4 package
database for the content was added (although the build process is not yet
based on pkgadd). This allows you to install most binary packages from
Blastwave.org. The DHCP eventhook can deal with multiple DHCP networks on

About: SSVN is a wrapper script for svn to store file permissions in a
Subversion repository (along with the versioned file). Permissions and
ownership can be restored later. A Unix-like file permissions schema is
stored, and GID and UID are stored numerically. This means that this
script is not portable to non-Unix systems.

  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 10:42

System :: Emulators

About: Stella is a freely distributed multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS
emulator originally developed for Linux by Bradford W. Mott. Since its
original release several people have joined the development team to port
Stella to other operating systems such as DOS, OS/2, MacOS, Unix, and
Windows 95 & NT.

Changes: This release adds a new 'filesystem-based' ROM browser mode. The
ROM properties file has been integrated for faster startup. Settings and
properties file handling has been reworked, and only saves to external
files when necessary. An option has been added to turn off all visual
tweaks for a more authentic look. 'Jitter compensation' for paddles on
Stelladaptor has been added. There are various bugfixes to the debugger
and snapshot code. A universal binary for the OS X port has been added.
There are many changes for the GP2X port.

About: sync2cd is an incremental archiving tool. It allows backing up
complete filesystem hierarchies to multiple backup media (e.g. CD-R).
Files are archived incrementally, i.e. only new or changed files are
stored during an archive operation. All entity types are supported:
directories, files, symlinks, named pipes, sockets, and block and
character devices.

Changes: This release adds a command to copy files directly instead of
burning them. It adds information about remaining files in the status
output. A major bug has been fixed.

[064] - Systrace 1.6b
  by Niels Provos (http://freshmeat.net/users/nielsprovos/)
  Fri, Apr 7th 2006 02:00

Security

About: Systrace enforces system call policies for applications by
constraining the application's access to the system. The policy is
generated interactively. Operations not covered by the policy raise an
alarm, allowing the user to refine the currently configured policy. After
a policy has been sufficiently constructed, further alarms often indicate
security problems. Policies can also be generated automatically for
sandboxing purposes.

Changes: Many problems with older Linux kernels where ptrace would not
behave as expected were fixed. This version should run reliably on both
2.4 and 2.6 kernels.
