  by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
  Thu, Apr 6th 2006 08:23

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is an all-in-one network security gateway
that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam
protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include stateful
packet inspection, deep packet filtering, intrusion detection and
prevention, portscan detection, content filtering, virus detection for
email and Web traffic, whitelists and blacklists, IPSec and PPTP VPN
tunneling, spam blocking, proxies for HTTP, FTP, SMTP, DNS, SIP, SOCKS,
and Ident, logging, and reporting. The WebAdmin and Up2Date service make
it easy to install, manage, and update.

Changes: This Up2Date fixes a problem with the default Surf Protection
categories for 6.200-preinstalled appliances. Installations with Up2Date
6.200 are not affected. It fixes also some eDirectory issues and increases
the lookup speed dramatically, so all ASG users which use eDirectory for
authentication should install this Up2Date. Besides this, some smaller
bugs were fixed.

  Thu, Apr 6th 2006 07:11

Communications :: Email

About: BL4's SMTP server is an inbound only SMTP server. It currently uses
hardcoded values for handling email. The SMTP server puts the incoming
email into various text files.

Changes: The hardcoded value of 10 connections at once was removed. The
number of connections was set to a defined value in smtp.h. The results
that are printed to a TXT file were modified to end each line with "\r\n".
Comments were added. The server responses were changed to be more user
friendly. RFC 2821 was added for more information regarding the SMTP
protocol.

[004] - BuildNumber 0.8
  by ObiJohn (http://freshmeat.net/users/obijohn/)
  Thu, Apr 6th 2006 07:09

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: BuildNumber is a utility to add auto-incrementing build numbers to
C/C++ projects. It is written in pure C for maximum portability but can
also be used with C++ projects, and should compile on any platform. Every
time you rebuild your project, BuildNumber will automatically update its
build number for you: set it up once, and it just works. You can compile
individual files without incrementing the build number, because it only
updates when you actually build or make your project.

[014] - IP::Country 2.21

  Thu, Apr 6th 2006 10:56

Internet :: Log Analysis
Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: IP::Country is a tool for fast lookup of country codes from IP
addresses. Finding out the country of a client using only the IP address
can be difficult. Looking up the domain name associated with that address
can provide some help, but many IP address are not reverse mapped to any
useful domain, and the most common domain (.com) offers no help when
looking for country. This module comes bundled with a database of
countries where various IP addresses have been assigned. Although the
country of assignment will probably be the country associated with a large
ISP rather than the client herself, this is probably good enough for most
log analysis applications, and under test has proved to be as accurate as
reverse-DNS and WHOIS lookup.

Changes: A database update to the Regional Internet Registries' April 6
2006 release. Minor bugfixes.

[015] - Java Parallel Processing Framework 0.13.0
  by Laurent Cohen (http://freshmeat.net/users/lolocohen/)
  Thu, Apr 6th 2006 08:15

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Java Parallel Processing Framework is a set of tools and APIs to
facilitate the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and
distribute their execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It is
intended to run in clusters and grids. It features platform independence
thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your application
classes to a server, scales up to thousands of nodes, has a built-in
fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.

Changes: A major performance enhancement was achieved by bundling atomic
tasks together, rather than sending them together. This enables tremendous
peformance gains, with a factor of 1 to 8, depending on the application.
The code in the nodes and the core server has been refactored accordingly
to allow for further improvement. A capability was added to the
administration tool to manually optimize the bundle size, allowing for a
nice performance tuning.

Database
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Metastorage is a PHP data access object generator compiler tool. It
implements an object persistence API from a description in an XML format
named CPML. The persistent object classes implement object-relational
mappings, so developers do not have to write SQL manually. It features an
object query language for specifying conditions for querying objects,
generation of classes for producing reports, generation of classes to
manage templated Web forms for creating new persistent objects, and
generation of UML class diagrams. It can be run from the command line or
from a Web interface.

Changes: This released introduces several fixes in the generated PHP code
to make it compliant with the backward incompatible changes in PHP 4.4.
Defining all persistent object classes in separate files referenced with
the includedclass tag is now allowed. The list of tables in SQL queries of
OQL expressions with not in operators was corrected. The encoding of 8-bit
characters used in definition files was fixed.

[042] - Seek & Destroy Music Duplicates 1.8
  by igor tavcar (http://freshmeat.net/users/tigor/)
  Thu, Apr 6th 2006 10:57

About: Seek & Destroy Music Duplicates is a tool for locating and removing
duplicated music files. It does not crash on corrupted files and normally
suggests the best song from amongst the duplicates. It uses an incremental
scanning strategy and uses relatively few system resources. MP3, Ogg, WMA,
and AAC formats are supported. It allows specified directories to be
excluded from the search, and the state of the scanner can be saved to
engage incremental scanning when the tool is used periodically. ID3 tag
and data comparators are supported. An XML report can be produced.
Duplicates are always moved to the destination folder and not deleted.

Changes: This release has a scanner strategy control panel. The
duplicate-matcher strategy is parameterized. The keep-duplicate-file
strategy is parameterized. Strategy parameters can be applied to the
duplicates without the need for rescanning the files. There are major
changes in tag-related classes. The wait cursor is now shown for
time-consuming tasks. Tag comparison produces a better score. There are
minor bugfixes.
