Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Localization

About: The Adobe Source Libraries (ASL) are a collection of C++ libraries
building foundation technology to allow the construction of commercial
applications by assembling generic algorithms through declarative
descriptions.

Changes: Highlights of this release include a significant overhaul of
guides in the auto layout engine (Eve) to support mixed right-to-left
(RTL) and left-to-right layouts, the addition of support for constructing
reversed layouts, adobe::behavior_t (a tree based deferred processing
mechanism used for queuing functions in a predefined order of execution),
significant updates to the Generic Image Library (GIL), and improvements
to the UI core layout element concept design and implementation.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: amaroK is a sound system-independent audio-player for Unix. Its
interface uses a powerful "browser" metaphor that allows you to create
playlists that make the most of your music collection.

Changes: This release introduces a new custom icon theme, and support for
XSPF, SMIL, and WAX playlists. Further new features include extended
Podcast support with metadata and images, an improved collection sidebar
view, and better media device support. Ogg Vorbis radio streams now
provide metadata. Many important bugfixes have been made, including memory
leak fixes for the XINE and Helix backends.

About: AnotherScrapBook is a static Website generator. It can currently
handle (almost) all kinds of pictures, as well as MJPEG films as
typically generated by a digital camera.

Changes: The -sample option of the "display" command is now used to resize
images, since -resize is slower. Mplayer and other commands were replaced
as much as possible with transcode. A "compact" Template was added. The
new "CLASS" info field was created to remember the class of an item. The
default of the "save-always" option was changed from 0 to 1, meaning to
save after each item.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Campsite is a multilingual content management system (CMS) for news
Web sites. Campsite's user interface was built with the end user
(journalist, editor, publisher) in mind, and it can be configured to suit
different profiles of end users. Campsite follows the print-newspaper
publishing paradigm, so it structures sites by default as Publications >
Issues > Sections > Articles. Campsite works best for medium-to-large-size
online news publications, but it is capable of handling nimbler sites too.

Changes: This version includes full localizations in Arabic, Croatian,
French, German, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian (Cyrillic),
Serbo-Croatian (Latin), and Swedish. The Xinha editor now can handle more
than 9 images in an article field. Subheads now work correctly in Xinha
even when there are extra spaces in them. User creation date now shows up
correctly. The root topic language now defaults to the user interface
language on the Topics screen. Parts of the home page are now formatted
correctly when there are no articles.

System :: Filesystems

About: DARE is a small Linux kernel patch to the VFS (virtual filesystem)
which transparently moves files into a special directory on each
filesystem instead of removing them. It works like the Novell Netware Data
Recovery system or MS Windows' Recycle Bin. DARE is independent of
filesystem type, so it can be used without constraints on almost every
filesystem. Deleted files are collected in a directory named "deleted" on
the filesystem's root directory. There are also user space utilities for
dealing with deleted files.

  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 07:55

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Video

About: DVD-Baker generates a DVD consisting of menus and slideshows from a
picture collection stored in a Menalto Gallery G2 Web site or in a locally
stored directory tree. Each "leaf" album (an album that does not contain
sub-albums) is used to create a slideshow. The slideshows (and any
DVD-ready MPEG videos) are made accessible on the DVD with menus that
follow the structure of the Web site or directories. Extra features
include random or sequential autoplay, and audio support. Since
dvd-slideshow is used to produce each slideshow, it supports effects such
as crossfades, crops, and 'Ken Burns' effects.

Changes: A bug in the gallery g2 modules was corrected. The leader ability
was added to recipes, including creation of a blank leader if one is not
defined, which should improve standalone compatibility. (A leader is a
video clip to be played before the root menu is shown.) A logical error
with autoplay and random options was corrected. A button highlighting
feature was added so that the currently selected button in the root menu
doesn't change after timeout when autoplay is off.

[023] - Gecode 1.1.0
  by Guido Tack (http://freshmeat.net/users/odiug/)
  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 05:29

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Gecode is a portable, accessible, and efficient environment for
developing constraint-based systems and applications. Gecode is radically
open for programming, meaning that it can be easily interfaced to other
systems. It supports the programming of new propagators (as implementation
of constraints), branching strategies, and search engines. New variable
domains can be programmed at the same level of efficiency as finite domain
and integer set variables that come predefined with Gecode.

Changes: This minor release adds some new constraints, adds support for
stopping search engines based on definable criteria, and some other small
fixes. Most notably, the test infrastructure has been extended to also

[027] - HTML Sucks Completely 1.0b
  by Matthias Bethke (http://freshmeat.net/users/msbethke/)
  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 14:22

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: HSC (HTML Sucks Completely) is a developer tool for HTML projects.
It is mainly intended for creating and maintaining larger Web sites, with
a focus on compact and standards-conforming code. Its source texts are
HTML files that use an extended syntax allowing for macros, conditionals,
variables, expressions, etc. These sources are transformed into static
(X)HTML pages. HSC checks the result for many common errors such as
missing end tags and nesting mistakes, both in the markup and, to a
limited extent, in CSS. As a commandline tool, it can be used together
with "make", and a dependency generator is included. The macro library
features things like navigation menus, LaTeX-style sections, footnotes and
bibliographies, semiautomatic table-based layout, and database/scripting
interfaces.

Changes: Various compilation problems on the Win32 platform were fixed,
and the build environment was changed to MinGW. Current Win32 binaries are
available from the homepage again.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP client is a PHP class to make HTTP requests. It can submit
requests via a proxy server and establish secure connections (HTTPS) with
optional SSL client certificates. It supports HTTP authentication
mechanisms like HTTP Basic, HTTP Digest, and NTLM (Windows or Samba). It
submits POST requests with user-defined form values, file uploading, or
with user-defined request bodies. It handles cookies and automatic
redirection handling. There is an addon class to log in to Yahoo and
execute actions on behalf of the user, like exporting the address book or
sending invitations to Yahoo groups.

Changes: An optional class was added to demonstrate how to log in to Yahoo
and execute actions on behalf of the logged user. The main class was fixed
to output debug information for SSL connections established with the Curl
library. A new option was added to tell whether request response bodies
should be dumped as debug output in debug mode.

  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 03:39

Office/Business
Printing

About: KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It
can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex
labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes
with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import of
labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined labels,
database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even
printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode.
Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of
barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are
supported.

Changes: This is the first bugfix release in the 2.0 series. It fixes
several compilation problems and adds a Turkish translation and TBarcode2
support. Additionally, a bug was fixed with automatically connecting to a
SQL table and with barcode values from the database. Barcodes values for
barcode writer in pure postscript are now validated before generating the
barcode. As a result, Perl Compatible Regular Expressions are now required
to compile KBarcode.

System :: Logging

About: log4sh is a logging framework for shell scripts that works similar
to the other wonderful logging products available from the Apache Software
Foundataion (eg. log4j, log4perl). Although not as powerful as the others,
it can make the task of adding advanced logging to shell scripts easier,
and has much more power than just using simple "echo" commands throughout.
In addition, it can be configured from a properties file so that scripts in
a production environment do not need to be altered to change the amount of

About: Nodezilla is a secured, distributed, and fault tolerant routing
system (or grid network) that supports distributed services such as file
sharing, chat, efficient video multicast streaming, and secured file
storage. It provides cache features where any server may create a local
replica of any data object. These local replicas provide faster access
and robustness to network partitions, and reduce network congestion by
localizing access traffic. To ensure data protection, redundancy and
cryptographic techniques are used.

Changes: Now allows to share Directory Objects, allowing to
share/downloads whokle directories at a time. Dataflow greatly enhanced by
reducing inter-threads locking. Locale (read full UNICODE support) support
is now implemented also for Linux. The bandwidth limiter problems (which
limited too much) should now be gone. New authentication code replaced the
old one, which were too fascistic in some cases. Bunch of bug fixes, and a
random crash fixed.

you can quickly turn any text area into a powerful WYSIWYG editor with
just a few simple lines of code.

Changes: A bizarre problem which occurred with certain version
combinations of IE and Windows where the textarea wasn't properly hidden
was fixed. The "Font Size" and "Font Select" buttons were fixed so that
they are "unselectable" in IE 6+, so users can't drag and drop them into

About: PHP-Controller implements the controller for building MVC
applications. The controller gives PHP applications a single entry point,
from which the user sends all requests to from the view to model, removing
the need to have to write code describing how the data will interact with
the presentation. This project is strongly influenced by the way current
Java Pages are handled and makes strong use of PHP classes for all pages.
The controller itself is an XML file which determines which classes are
accessible by whom.

Changes: All releases will be under the LGPL, not the PHP license. New
advanced features in aliases, including dynamic aliases and URL names. The
new version is more portable and uses all relative paths. It does
auto-detection and configuration. It has detection and validation in
forms. GET, POST, and COOKIE variables are passed through a function

  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 12:01

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: SISC is an extensible Java-based interpreter of the algorithmic
language Scheme. It uses modern interpretation techniques and handily
outperforms all existing Java interpreters (often by more than an order of
magnitude). In addition, SISC is a complete implementation of the language.
The entire R5RS Scheme standard is supported. This includes a full number
tower including complex number support and arbitrary precision integers
and floating point numbers, proper tail recursion, hygienic macros, and
full support for first-class continuations (not just the escaping
continuations found in many other systems).

Changes: Simplifies Java to Scheme initialization and context management.
Support for hash tables with arbitrary equivalence and hash functions,
weak keys, and hash table reflection. Support for character ports creation
from any binary port. UTF-8 support has been fixed throughout, and the
character/binary port distinction is more consistent. There is support for
direct-to-buffer I/O. This release adds support for SRFIs 61, 67, and 69,
and fixes others. It adds non-generative records and generic interned
values support. It improves error reporting, especially for load. There

[080] - Subversive 1.0.0 M10
  by Polarion Software (http://freshmeat.net/users/polarion/)
  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 11:43

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion

About: Subversive is a pure Java Eclipse plug-in that provides Subversion
(SVN) support. From a user's point of view, it provides Subversion support
similar to CVS support, which is already part of the standard Eclipse
platform. Besides functionality, it offers good usability and nice user
interface.

Changes: Performance improvements: an issue with Eclipse slowdown and
breakpoints was resolved. Create Patch functionality was added. The commit
dialog was improved, and shows the list of committed resources. Support for
shortcuts was added. There are other minor bugfixes.

[081] - Support Incident Tracker 3.23
  by Ivan Lucas (http://freshmeat.net/users/ericthefish/)
  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 11:53

About: Support Incident Tracker (or SiT!) is a Web-based application for
tracking technical support calls or emails. It can manage contacts, sites,
technical support contracts, and support incidents in one place. You can
send and receive email directly from SiT!, attaching files and recording
every communication in the incident log. SiT! is aware of Service Level
Agreements, and incidents are flagged if they stray outside of them.

Changes: This is a recommended upgrade for all users, since it contains a
number of security enhancements and a fair number of bugfixes. The main
new features for this release are user roles, the removal of the
requirement for 'register_globals' to be on, an improved site-incidents
page with charts, and the ability to relate incidents.

About: svn2cl is an XSLT script that generates a clasic GNU-style
changelog file from Subversion log messages. It generates a
friendly-looking changelog from Subversion log messages like cvs2cl does
for CVS (although this is a lot simpler with subversion).

Changes: Several performance improvements were made, the --reparagraph and
--separate-daylogs options were added, and a new authors file format is
supported. The current path in the repository is automatically stripped,
and the HTML output looks nicer.

[083] - Tapestry JSCookMenu beta 1.1
  by perseios (http://freshmeat.net/users/perseios/)
  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 02:39

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Tapestry JSCookMenu provides a component for the Apache Tapestry
Web framework that makes it possible to create JavaScript menus and
navigation sidebars easily with an arbitrary number of hierarchical pop up
sub menus. The famous JavaScript "JSCookMenu", written by Heng Yuan, is
encapsulated within the component. The component gives an easy
Tapestry-like programming interface to the Web developer. There are some
built-in themes for the look of the menu. It is easy to create your own
themes or to override some property of a given theme.

Changes: A second component was added, allowing the definition of the
model by an XML file. Links, captions, and icons are defined in the XML.
DirectLink, PageLink, GenericLink, ExternalLink, and ServiceLink with the
corresponding options are supported.

[084] - textbender 0.0.4
  by Michael Allan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mcallan/)
  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 14:41

Artistic Software
Communications
Text Processing

About: Textbender is a distributed system of collaborative writing, with a
basis in genetic theory. As a distributed system, it differs from the
typical centralized approach (e.g. of a Wiki) where writers push
contributions to a single, central copy of the text. By contrast,
textbender has no central copy; instead, each writer has a separate copy
of the text, and selectively pulls contributions from other writers. As a
consequence, there are multiple variations of the text. Collectively, the
text has spatial diversity.

Changes: Recombinant Desktop, a client toolkit for recombinant
composition, was introduced. It integrates with a desktop text editor. A
reference interface for Emacs is included. The command line interface of
the Vivid graphical toolset was extended in support of the new toolkit. A
new component, a command line gene extractor, was developed. It extracts
gene copy from texts.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: ViewVC (formerly known as ViewCVS) is a Python/CGI-based system for
viewing and interacting with Subversion and CVS repositories through your
Web browser. It can browse directories, view changelogs, generate diffs,
view arbitrary revisions, and display annotated ("blame") listings. It has
full support for tags and branches, and contains a database-backed query
system like Bonsai. It was initially based on the cvsweb work by Henner
Zeller, but has been ported to Python and dramatically enhanced.

Changes: This release represents over five years of effort since the last
minor release. It brings not just a new name for the product, but also
many major changes, including support for Subversion repositories, the
ability to run under MS Windows, strict XHTML output, mod_python support
(under Apache), ASP support (under IIS), and integrated commit metadata
query and RSS feed support.

[089] - xBaK 0.0.6
  by Guido (http://freshmeat.net/users/guidoj/)
  Mon, Apr 10th 2006 14:28

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: xBaK is a fan-made remake of the classic Sierra computer RPG
"Betrayal at Krondor". xBaK is a game engine that uses the data files that
came with the original game by Sierra Online. You must already have your
own copy, since the required data files are not distributed with xBaK. A
playable game is not yet available. Several tools to examine the contents
of the data files are done. A small demo that shows the intro and the
startup option screen is available too.

Changes: The EventHandler has been changed to more flexible
EventListeners. More work has been done on the GUI, and more dialogs are
available. The ability to create screenshots (BMP format) has been added.
Keyboard and mouse grabbing is now user-controlled. BOK files can be
loaded and partially interpreted. There are several bugfixes.

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: This release contains some bugfixes. The integration with
NetBeans has been improved. The petstore demo looks much better.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a
lot of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server
which exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is
based on CORBA (using JacORB), RMI, XML-RPC, native socket, or a
persistent HTTP plugin. Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter
the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, VisualBasic.net, C#, and PHP client
demos are included in the xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo
clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback
framework, allowing browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant
callbacks over a persistent http connection. A security plugin framework
allows authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are
LDAP- and passwd-based plugins available.

Changes: Consuming persistent queues. Database replication: Oracle master
to multi slave (Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL Server) with a Web GUI.
Clustering fixes.
