[002] - AllTray 0.66
by jebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/jebe/)
Wed, Apr 26th 2006 13:55
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: AllTray is software that allows users to dock any application into
the system tray. You can dock (for example) Mozilla Thunderbird, Evolution,
and even terminals. A highlight feature is that a click on the "close"
button of an application will minimize it to the system tray. It works
well with Gnome, KDE, XFCE 4, Fluxbox, and WindowMaker.
Changes: This release support Gnome 2.14. The annoying Metacity theme bug
was fixed. It is now possible to align windows from the right or bottom of
the screen.

[004] - BashDiff 1.35
by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
Wed, Apr 26th 2006 16:48
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells
About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash shell. In the main core, it adds
the following syntax: {a..b}; ${var|...}; then-else-fi to
for/while/until/case statements; try-block with string exception; <<+;
and, <<<<. As builtin, it adds the following: sscanf(3), <string.h>,
<ctype.h> wrappers; array, regex(3), stack, queue operations; GDBM,
SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL database interfaces; HTML template engine
(BASP); Expat XML parser interface; x-y char plot; DOS, CSV, Awk support;
Libwebserver interface; RPN calculator with <math.h> functions; and, GTK+2
interface for GUI dialog.
Changes: This release adds negative integer generation in {a..b}, in
keeping with the default Bash behaviour. The command 'binary' has been
changed to read/print base 2 to 36 numbers, instead of just oct, hex, and
dec. The command 'vplot' now has an option to preserve aspect ratio.

[005] - Big Faceless Graph Library 2.2
by BFO (Big Faceless Organization)
(http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
Wed, Apr 26th 2006 03:36
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The Big Faceless Graph Library is a Java class library for creating
graphs and charts. It is backed by a full 3D engine, allowing you to create
shaded 3D pie, bar, and line graphs as GIF, PDF, PNG, or other image
formats. Its features include transparent backgrounds, extensible axes to
graph dates, currencies, custom fonts, and spline curve fitting. It is
small, fast, and easy to use.
Changes: The width and depth can now be set on a StackedBarSeries and
MultiBarSeries independently of their children. This is a change from
previous versions, where setting the width on the -multibarseries- would
effectively set the width for each of their children as well. To update
your XML, simply remove any "barwidth" and "bardepth" attributes on a
"barseries" inside a "multibarseries", and ensure the value is set on the
"multibarseries" element. Improvements were made to the spacing of the
DateAxis when plotting small ranges of months.

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, spot and
calibrated color.
Changes: The library now works with the Bouncy Castle Crypto provider as
the preferred provider. A ClassCastException which was thrown when
rendering was fixed; this sometimes occurred in PDFs with multiple
appearances per button. An option to save TIFF images at 204x196DPI was
added, as required for TIFF-F. Rendering PDFs as color TIFFs now uses
Packbits compression. The position of rotated images on buttons was fixed.

by Scytale (http://freshmeat.net/users/ScytaleDE/)
Wed, Apr 26th 2006 00:39
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: KPhotoAlbum (formerly known as KimDaBa, KDE Image Database) is a
tool for indexing, searching, and viewing images. The indexing is done by
telling KPhotoAlbum who is on the images, where the images were taken, and
(optionally) adding descriptions. It is highly optimized for easy indexing
of images, so that it is possible to use it with thousands of images. It
also allows you to browse your images easily, based on the properties
(person, location, keywords) you specified when indexing.
Changes: This is the first release of the software formerly known as
KimDaBa under the new name, KPhotoAlbum. Among the new features are EXIF
support (including the possibility to search for EXIF data) and a new
thumbnail viewer.

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: LFT (Layer Four Traceroute) is a sort of "traceroute" that often
works much faster than the commonly-used Van Jacobson method and goes
through many configurations of packet-filter based firewalls. More
importantly, LFT implements numerous other features, including AS number
lookups through several reliable sources, loose source routing, netblock
name lookups, and more. LFT also distinguishes between TCP-based
protocols, which make its statistics slightly more realistic, and gives a
savvy user the ability to trace protocol routes, not just layer-3 hops.
Changes: Features such as configurable payload length were added.
Improvements were made to adaptive tracing and to UDP tracing. ToS support
was added. Many enhancements were made to the WhoB client. Many bugfixes
and optimizations were made.

[035] - Meta Matrix Library 0.7
by Joerg Frochte (http://freshmeat.net/users/jfrochte/)
Wed, Apr 26th 2006 07:16
About: The Meta Matrix Library is a modular collection of C libraries that
was developed as part of the Free Finite Element Package to provide easy
and consistent access to numerical linear algebra algorithms for sparse
and dense matrices. The dense matrix and vector operations of the package
are based on LAPACK and BLAS (focused upon ATLAS). Beyond this, MEML
supports UMFPACK (SuperLU projected) as a solver for linear systems of
equations with sparse matrices. MEML can use OpenMP or the Posix-Thread
version of ATLAS to enable shared-memory parallelizing.
Changes: The Meta Matrix Library was separated from the Free Finite

[041] - Object Shell 0.7
by geophile (http://freshmeat.net/users/geophile/)
Wed, Apr 26th 2006 11:01
Utilities
About: Object Shell (osh) is the interpreter for a Python-like language
that supports the composition of commands through piping, similar to pipes
in a Unix shell. However, the key difference is that objects are passed
through the pipes in osh instead of streams of text. The objects passed
between commands can be Python built-ins or complex objects such as dates
and times, database rows, or OS resources. Objects can be automatically
converted to strings for integration with the conventional Unix
environment.
Changes: An API has been added: this release can be used from within
Python. Cluster nodes can be configured as a list of addresses as before,
or as a map in which the key is a logical name and the value is the
address. The expand command has been generalized. The options of the
window command have been modified.

About: wapircgw allows a WAP-capable mobile phone to easily connect to IRC
networks. The only thing needed is a Linux box with an Internet connection

multiple channels and talk to others privately just like when using a real
IRC client. It consists of 2 cooperative pieces: wapircphp and wapircd.
wapircd is the daemon that handles connections to IRC networks and
requests from wapircphp. wapircphp generates WML Web pages that can be
viewed with a mobile phone's WAP browser.

[069] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 2.1.1-beta.build58
by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking
About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.
Changes: More bugfixes. Look out for permission issues for the ldap server
in /opt/WiKID/var/log/apacheds-stdout.log and apacheds-stderr. The LDAP
server must be started separately (in addition to running 'start'):
/opt/WiKID/bin/ldapctl start.
