About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: This releases extends the scope of %%vocalspace and introduces
the new command %%timewarn.

Thu, Apr 27th 2006 23:38
Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Testing
About: BasicQuery is a Java-based application used to access databases
through JDBC. It features a Swing-based GUI and includes capabilities
useful to developers when testing SQL statements against a database. It
also produces timing information, which is valuable during tuning
exercises.
Changes: Resource bundles were added for French, German, Italian,
Portuguese, and Spanish in addition to the original English. The program
will use the system configured language/country to attempt to find the
correct resource bundle, but has the option to override that setting.
Changes were completed for all messages/widgets within the application
frame to use the resource bundle values. Finally, a couple of minor bugs
were fixed, including resolution of an issue causing leaking DB
connections when the database details were being output.

About: Psyco shows that it is possible to execute Python code at speeds
approaching that of fully compiled languages, by using a technique called
"specialization". This extension module for the unmodified interpreter
accelerates user programs with little or no change in their sources. It
can increase speed by a factor that can be very interesting, and an
increase of 2 to 10 times is common.
Changes: This release is compatible with Python 2.5. It also fixes rare

functions that contain local 'def' statements or lambdas. The performance
of creating instances of new-style classes has been improved.

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
About: SimSoup is a graphical artificial chemistry simulator for Linux and
Windows. The program enables a chemistry to be defined in terms of molecule
types and the possible interactions between them. A simulation run involves
setting up a number of molecules of various molecule types in a reactor,
and then allowing interactions to take place over a period of time.
Interactions taking place in the reactor are shown on a graphical display.
The motivation for development of the program is to enable investigations
into the behaviour of networks, particularly in relation to 'metabolism
first' theories of the origin of life, although the basic design supports
modeling of any network in which interactions can take place between
nodes. Currently, development has reached the prototype stage.

[062] - TOM programming language 2.3rc3
by polux (http://freshmeat.net/users/polux/)
Thu, Apr 27th 2006 23:06
Software Development
About: Tom is a software environment for defining transformations in Java.
It is an extension of Java designed to manipulate tree structures and XML
documents. It is compatible with Java: a Java program is a correct Tom
program. Data are represented using an efficient tree based
data-structure. Java built-ins (int, char, String, etc) can be used. Tom
provides pattern matching facilities to inspect objects and retrieve
values. A powerful strategy language can be used to control
transformations.
Changes: Gom was implemented, which is a new generator of data structure
implementations, and is more expressive, better, and more efficient than
Vas. %strategy was added as a new construct that helps to defines
strategies. When using %strategy, it is no longer necessary to define
inner-classes. In addition, a Tom mapping is automatically generated.
%[...]% is a new construct that helps to write backends. The text between
%[ and ]% is not interpreted, so character escaping does not need to be
done. The documentation was updated.

by ewi (http://freshmeat.net/users/ewi/)

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Object Brokering
About: ulxmlrpcpp is a library to perform calls via XML-RPC in an object
oriented approach. It is possible to create both client and server
applications in multithreaded environments. Unlike other implementations,
it does not insist on HTTP for transportation, but might also accept other
ways (e.g. a simple serial line with a user-defined protocol). For HTTP as
a transportation protocol, the following features are supported: cookies,
SSL/TLS, proxy, SSL/TLS over a proxy, and chunked transfers. ulxmlrpcpp is
also able to transmit data faster with binary XML.
Changes: Several problems with the epoll() functionality have been fixed.
Some internal variables have been renamed to avoid compiler warnings.

About: webCDwriter can be used to make the CD- and DVD-writer(s) connected
to a Linux box available to all users in your network. It consists of the
server CDWserver and the clients webCDcreator and rcdrecord. CDWserver
stores the files transmitted by the clients, reserves the CD-writer and
controls the CD-writer using cdrecord. webCDcreator is a Java applet that
runs within your browser or by Java Web Start, assists you when putting
together a CD, and transmits the files. Finally rcdrecord is a command
line client that tries to offer the functionality of cdrecord over the
network with full multi-user support.
Changes: This release uses fewer modal dialog boxes and the precompiled
applet is signed by a renewed certificate. The Pro edition now supports
the reading of ISO images.

[071] - ZoneMinder 1.22.1
by Philip Coombes (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcoombes/)
Thu, Apr 27th 2006 02:30
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.
Changes: This release contains some requested new features as well as
quite a few fixes for various problems. The principle new features in this
release relate to the ability to link monitors so that one monitor can
trigger an alarm in another. Consequently. events may now have causes
other than motion and external triggers and all causes for an event are
now recorded in the cause and notes fields of the event record in the
database and can be filtered on.
