[003] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.6c
by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
Fri, Apr 28th 2006 10:37
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ and DMZ-2-LAN
forwarding, protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, and extensive user
definable logging with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It features
support for all IP protocols and VPNs such as IPSec. and is easy to
configure and highly customizable. A filter script that makes your
firewall log more readable is also included.
Changes: This release adds DMZ_OPEN_xxx variables. It fixes another bug in
the (NAT) port/host helper functions that caused some (exotic) forwards not
to work. LAN->DMZ traffic is no longer blocked. TRUSTED_IF's didn't allow
FORWARD traffic out; this has been fixed. There are miscellaneous tweaks

[004] - astGUIclient 1.1.11
by eflonet (http://freshmeat.net/users/eflonet/)
Fri, Apr 28th 2006 14:11
Communications :: Telephony
About: astGUIclient is part of a suite of programs that are designed to
interact with the Asterisk PBX Phone system at a client computer level to
extend the functionality of your phone and system. The main GUI
application, astGUIclient, is a set of PHP Web-based scripts utilizing
Javascript and XMLHTTPRequest functions that work through a browser to
give realtime information and functionality with nothing more than an
Internet browser on the client computer. Another component included with
the astGUIclient package is the VICIDIAL auto-dialer, a list dialer which
can dial one-call-at-a-time or be put in auto-dial mode to act as a
predictive dialer. It can function as an ACD for inbound calls or for
Closer calls coming from VICIDIAL fronters, and allows for remote agents
that may only have a phone.
Changes: This release adds agent-only scheduled callbacks, lead filters
for campaigns to use custom SQL to narrow calling scope, agent
manual-lead-insertion capability, and more user-permission
options/restrictions for both agents and admins. There are several small
bugfixes for better Asterisk 1.2.6 and SVN compatibility. PHP variable
checking has been fixed in all PHP scripts to be more compliant. There are
many other small changes.

use with a very large number of files and/or very large files. It can
perform its task strictly in terms of cryptographic digests, or use
cryptographic digests backed up at the end with full byte-for-byte
comparisons. It also uses some heuristics like comparing the beginnings of
files and the device number and inode number and file sizes. Further, it
knows to only read in the parts that it needs "so far", to avoid a huge
inhale at the beginning of the run, instead trying an initial method and
falling back to subsequent methods as needed.

About: Msort sorts files in sophisticated ways. Records may be fixed size,
newline-separated blocks, or terminated by any specified character. Key
fields may be selected by position, tag, or character range. For each key,
distinct exclusions, multigraphs, substitutions, and a sort order may be
defined or locale collation rules used. Comparisons may be lexicographic,
numeric, numeric string, hybrid, random, by string length, angle, date,
time, or ISO8601 timestamp. Keys may be reversed so as to generate reverse
dictionaries. Optional keys are supported. Unicode is supported, including
full case-folding. Msort itself has a somewhat complex command line
interface, but may be driven by an optional GUI.
Changes: A new option allows the user to specify for a particular key that
certain classes of characters should be treated as their simpler
counterparts. One sub-option strips separately encoded diacritics and
replaces ASCII characters with diacritics with their plain counterparts. A
second sub-option replaces characters enclosed in circles or parentheses
with their plain counterparts. A third sub-option replaces "fancy styles",
such as script forms and Arabic presentation forms, with their plain
counterparts.

Software Development :: Internationalization
Text Processing :: General
About: uni2ascii and ascii2uni convert between UTF-8 Unicode and 20 7-bit
ASCII equivalents including: hexadecimal and decimal HTML and SGML numeric
character references, \u-escapes, standard hexadecimal, raw hexadecimal,
and RFC2396 URI format. Such ASCII equivalents are useful for entering
Unicode in program source or in programs that are not 8-bit safe, and for
testing and debugging. Several options allow Unicode to be converted to
approximately equivalent ASCII, e.g. by stripping diacritics. An optional
GUI is provided.
Changes: Various errors in the handling of small capitals with the -f
option have been corrected. The characters expanded by the -x option now
included some ellipses and arrows. The characters replaced by the -e
option now include the union symbol.

[076] - XCB 0.9
by Josh Triplett (http://freshmeat.net/users/JoshTriplett/)
Fri, Apr 28th 2006 21:18
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: The XCB library provides an interface to the X Window System
protocol, designed to replace the Xlib interface. It has several
advantages over Xlib, including size (small library and lower memory
footprint), latency hiding (batch several requests and wait for the
replies later), direct protocol access (one-to-one mapping between
interface and protocol), thread support (access XCB from multiple threads,
with no explicit locking), and easy creation of new extensions
(automatically generates its interface from machine-parsable XML protocol
descriptions). Xlib can also use XCB as a transport layer, allowing
software to make requests and receive responses with both, which eases
porting to XCB. However, client programs, libraries, and toolkits will
gain the most benefit from a native XCB port.

[078] - XINS 1.4.0 (Stable)
by Anthony Goubard (http://freshmeat.net/users/agoubard/)
Fri, Apr 28th 2006 10:49
Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.
Changes: The main new features are automatic communication protocol
detection, asynchronous requests, generation of documentation in
OpenDocument format, support for including files (e.g. HTML) in the WAR
file, and an extensive Pet Store demo. Additionally, both the compile-time
performance and the runtime performance of XINS have been tuned further.
Some bugs were fixed.
