  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Fri, Jul 21st 2006 18:29

Software Development :: Interpreters
System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration

About: BASH Debugger provides a patched BASH that enables better debugging
support as well as improved error reporting. It also contains the most
comprehensive source code debugger for BASH that has been written. It has
been used as a springboard for other experimental features (such as a

developers are encouraged to participate.

Changes: This release adds the ability to run debugger commands on program
breakpoint (gdb "commands"), show program status (gdb "info program), and
call the debugger from inside the a debugged program, which potentially
can speed things up and may increase reliabilty/reproducability of errors.
A better line tracing facility was added. Documentation has been updated.

  Fri, Jul 21st 2006 12:13

Database
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: db_bibivu is a simple MySQL database access wrapper. It provides
functions for connecting to a MySQL database server, selecting the
database to access, executing queries, retrieving query results rows in
arrays, executing a query to return a single result row in a single call,
etc. The class may optionally generate a log of the executed queries. When
a query fails, it may send a warning message to a given site administrator
email address.

Changes: This release changes the functions "query" and "query_first", and
adds a second parameter, "$record_type". It adds the function data_seek
(mysql_data_seek; if the second parameter is not passed, it will position
on a random record), a "set_default_result_type" parameter (this will
change the default $result_type for the query function), a "close"
function to close a MySQL connection, and a "connect_first_use" parameter
(to allow the class to connect only when it is used the first time; this
will avoid connection to the database when no queries are executed).

[025] - Fast Secure File System 0.0.2
  by Nicola Cocchiaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/ncocchiaro/)
  Fri, Jul 21st 2006 02:00

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Filesystems
System :: Networking

About: FSFS is a secure, distributed, scalable, user-space file system
that exports existing directories securely over the network, letting users
store and retrieve encrypted data in a transparent way. FSFS is written as
a pair of user space daemons that act as clients and servers. Servers
export an existing file system (of virtually any kind) to clients over the
network.

Changes: This release fixes a potential denial of service attack on the
client by changing the login process slightly and adding more security
checks. Therefore, it is advised to upgrade both servers and clients.
Configuration scripts have also been improved and other bugfixes and
tweaks have been made throughout the source files and the Makefiles. Work
is underway to port the server to other operating systems and to add new
features.

  Fri, Jul 21st 2006 00:42

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Software Development :: Libraries

About: ccaudio2 is a simple, highly portable, stand-alone, C++-based
framework for manipulation of audio data. Its goal is to be a C++
framework that is as useful as "audiofile" or "sndfile" is for C
programming, and to cover various generic and useful manipulations of
audio data as well as audio file access. A stand-alone audio processing
command line tool is also provided to demonstrate library functionality.
ccaudio2 compiles under Mac OS X, POSIX systems, and Win32 systems.

Changes: Updates were made in codec support. Timing base for gsm codec was
added. The g.721/g.723/g.726 family of adpcm codecs was introduced, along
with new raw adpcm .a24/.a32/.a40 file extensions.

[031] - GNU gengetopt 2.17
  by Lorenzo Bettini (http://freshmeat.net/users/bettini/)
  Fri, Jul 21st 2006 11:00

Software Development
Utilities

About: GNU gengetopt takes a simple description of arguments and
generates a C function that uses the GNU getopt_long(3) function to
parse and validate the options. It is perfect if you are too lazy to
write all that is required to call getopt_long(3), or need to use many
options. The generated code also works with autoconf or automake.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in the generating parser where no
multiple option is of type string. The passed header file extension is now
used when including the header file name in the generated C source. A
problem with the internal variable optind with the non-glibc version of
getopt has been fixed. There are a range of occurrences for multiple
options. Help and usage strings are generated and accessible (the same
that are printed by --help). Reduced size for multiple option parsers. An
--output-dir command line option has been added. The option
--string-parser generates a parser that interprets a passed string as
command line arguments.

About: GNU Source-highlight produces a document with syntax highlighting
when given a source file. It handles many languages, e.g., Java, C/C++,
Prolog, Perl, PHP3, Python, Flex, HTML, and other formats, e.g., ChangeLog
and log files, as source languages and HTML, XHTML, DocBook, ANSI color
escapes, LaTeX, and Texinfo as output formats. Input and output formats
can be specified with a regular expression-oriented syntax.

Changes: Language definition for C#, XML, and shell scripts. An option to
produce the list of elements of a language definition file
(--show-lang-elements). Output format definition for HTML where fonts by
default are not fixed width. A bug in URL regular expressions and a bug
with nonsensitive keywords have been fixed. Improved documentation

API rather than a bunch of different libraries for different purposes or
platforms. Its features include fully lightweight components with
transparency and effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams,
file handling, messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font
engine, image manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using
CoreAudio, DSound and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event
manipulation, Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.

Changes: This release adds a table component class and tidies up the old
ListBox class. Other new features include taskbar icons for Windows, fixes

  Fri, Jul 21st 2006 06:59

Internet :: Log Analysis
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
System :: Diagnostics

About: The main purpose of LoFiMo is, as the name states, to monitor log
files. It does this in real time, i.e. shows the contents of log files as
they are changing. The user can connect to LoFiMo with a Web browser or
use the console for plain text output. When using a Web browser, the
output can be formatted with cascading stylesheets, which the user can
define. Thus, it is possible to highlight certain log entries with
different colors and fonts. It is also possible to play sounds or execute
commands (send an email, play sound with a custom player, etc.) when a log
entry matches a filter. LoFiMo can parse Apache style log files and syslog
style log files. Among others, there are filters that can parse iptables
logs and merge multiple log lines of Postfix into a single one.

Changes: This release fixes the handling of the stop-flag in the kill
filter, string filter, and string replace filter. It adds the property
"inverse" in the string filter and kill filter, which allows the user to
invert the result of the regular expression string search.

About: Rule Set Based Access Control (RSBAC) is a Free Software security
extension for current Linux kernels. It is based on the Generalized
Framework for Access Control (GFAC) by Abrams and LaPadula and provides a
flexible system of access control based on several modules. All security
relevant system calls are extended by security enforcement code. This code

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Text Processing :: Indexing

About: WebGlimpse is a scalable, feature-rich search engine for indexing
your Web site or any collection of remote sites you choose. Commercial
features include customizable output formats, custom ranking/ordering of
hits, fuzzy matching, boolean queries, a Web administration interface for
multiple archives, logging of queries, caching of results, and more.
Localized search interfaces are provided in multiple languages including
Spanish, German, French, Italian, Norwegian, Finnish, Russian, Hebrew, and
others. It supports 3rd party filters for indexing PDF, Word, and Excel
files. A cPanel install script is available.

Changes: The spider part of Webglimpse now uses WWW::Mechanize to parse
links (if it's available). This takes advantage of the nice features of
Mechanize to recognize BASE HREF tags and otherwise intelligently
absolutify the links.

recognition by file content or by filename extension (or both). Different
actions with completely configurable commands can be assigned to each file
type.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in the font handling and a bug in the
file type recognition. A French man page was added and the Italian
translation was updated.
