About: Bayonne is the telephony server of the GNU project. It offers a
script-driven threaded multi-line state event telephony service on
GNU/Linux, xBSD, and Microsoft Windows for building voice response
systems, and uses telephony plugins for runtime driver configuration. It

System :: Operating System

About: Plan 9 was born in the same lab where Unix began. Underneath,
though, lies a new kind of system, organized around communication and
naming rather than files and processes. In Plan 9, distributed computing
is a central premise, not an evolutionary add-on. The system relies on a
uniform protocol to refer to and communicate with objects, whether they be
data or processes, and whether or not they live on the same machine or even
similar machines. A single paradigm (writing to named places) unifies all
kinds of control and interprocess signaling.

Changes: New features and bugfixes were added. SDL now compiles and runs
on Plan 9. However, SDL for Plan 9 has not been included in the operating
system in this release.

[032] - Relax and Recover 1.0
  by Gratien D'haese (http://freshmeat.net/users/gdha/)
  Sun, Jul 23rd 2006 17:28

System :: Recovery Tools
System :: Systems Administration

About: Relax and Recover (abbreviated rear) is a highly modular disaster
recovery framework for GNU/Linux based systems, but can be easily extended
to other Unix-like systems. The disaster recovery information (and maybe
the backups) can be stored via the network, or locally on hard disks or
USB devices, DVD/CD-R, tape, etc. The result is also a bootable image that
is capable of booting via PXE, DVD/CD, and tape (OBDR).

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: RPhoto is a handy image editor to simplify cropping of digital
camera pictures and avoid white borders introduced by incorrect
height/width ratios. It also has lossless rotate and flip features, as
well as a unique way to rectify a bad angle by only drawing a horizontal
or vertical line.

Changes: This release adds the ability to correct a bad inclination of a
picture by drawing a vertical or horizontal line, the modification of
comments, Exif tags, undo last operations, and a few bugfixes.

[034] - Shade LSB 1.1.0

Security
Security :: Cryptography

About: Shade (Steganographically Hide and Analyze Data Entries) is a
versatile and feature-rich program designed to analyze and manipulate the
LSBs (least significant bits) of files. LSB manipulation is a form of
steganography, the art or science of making the existence of information
undetectable by normal means. This is achieved by writing the contents of
a file to the LSBs of a separate and inconspicuous host file.

Changes: Many data processing and output features have been added, and the
code is much more friendly and efficient. An official change log was added.

[035] - Simple Log 2.0.1
  by Graham Lea (http://freshmeat.net/users/grlea/)
  Sun, Jul 23rd 2006 16:47

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Simple Log is a small library that does logging very simply and
requires you to do almost nothing (other than actually logging) to get log
output to happen. It is much simpler to use than a logging framework,
especially in terms of configuration. It doesn't attempt to solve every
logging problem in one package, but contains enough features to be a
viable alternative for most applications that need logging. This tool will
handle the logging needs of most small- to large-sized projects, but with
an almost non-existent learning curve.

Changes: This release is primarily about the addition of log rolling (by
time of day, file size, or custom strategy), the inclusion of a small but
humorous user guide, the fixing of a raft of minor bugs, and the inclusion
of a few other small features increasing flexibility.

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration

About: Spkg is a reimplementation of the Slackware Linux package manager
(pkgtools). Its features are simplicity, speed, a robust implementation,
rollback functionality, and a library interface.

Changes: This release contains small improvements to the existing features
and some bugfixes. Focus was set on testing and cleaning up of warning and
error strings.

[037] - Supybot 0.83.2
  by jamessan (http://freshmeat.net/users/jamessan/)
  Sun, Jul 23rd 2006 17:01

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat

About: Supybot is a clearly-written Python IRC framework and bot, intended
to be both easily extensible and very flexible. Several modules are
included by default. Numerous plugins are already written, including
Google, Factoids, RSS, Quotes, and Relay. Plugins and their commands
achieve greater utility via command nesting, something that no other IRC
bot does. The user database is based on "capabilities" rather than obscure
flags or arbitrary numeric "userlevels", giving the bot flexibility and
fine-grained control (think ACLs vs. standard *nix permissions).
Developing your own additions to the bot is simple with the base classes
provided; writing a new command for the bot is as simple as writing a
function. Unlike many other IRC frameworks, this simplicity is achieved at
no cost to generality, which lets new programmers and old programmers alike
feel at home in the framework.

Changes: A few of the more important changes are changing the default
network driver from Twisted to Socket and fixing the crash bug with the
Karma plugin.

[038] - SurrealServices 0.4.0 (Stable)
  by saturn (http://freshmeat.net/users/e1e1/)
  Sun, Jul 23rd 2006 16:43

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Conferencing
System :: Networking

About: SurrealServices is a full replacement
NickServ/ChanServ/BotServ/MemoServ/OperServ. Features are loosely based on
Anope and ConferenceRoom/Auspice, as well as NeoStats. Some security
features are also available such as a TOR (http://tor.eff.org/)
detector/banner, and a country detector (checks IP allocation). It is
multithreaded to eliminate lag due to the asynchronous nature of MySQL and
DNS lookups.

Changes: Now supports single-process mode for running on shell servers. No
longer requires Perl threads even for multi-process mode.

[044] - xlit 2.0
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Sun, Jul 23rd 2006 17:00

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Text Processing :: Markup

About: Xlit converts text from one writing system into another. It allows
the user to define a transliteration simply by typing the input strings in
one window and the strings to which they are to be mapped in another.
Transliteration may be restricted to regions bounded by specified
delimiters or their complements. Xlit can also convert one type of
delimiter to another, e.g. from HZ escapes to XML. Xlit can read and write
transliteration definitions in its own format and as Yudit keymaps. It can
be run in batch mode without the GUI.

Changes: This release has been extended to allow the transliteration to be
performed either by an external command or by a plugin written in Tcl. You
can now use Xlit to apply a sed or Perl script, or a specialized
standalone transliterator such as BuckwalterToUnicode, only to regions
within specified delimiters.
