Sat, Jul 29th 2006 10:53
About: BasKet is a desktop organization tool inspired by DropDrawers (from
www.sigsoftware.com). It uses baskets and drawers for organizing various
objects, such as text, URLs, images, sounds, or other documents. Objects
in a basket can be edited, copied, moved, dragged, and so on. This allows
you to stay organized and free your desktop, or to take notes with various
types of content (not only text) in an easy way.
Changes: BasKet Note Pads can be integrated into Kontact. You can
customize tags and add new ones. You can change font size for text notes.
A Tags menu was added to avoid clicking the small arrow. Plain text notes
are now completely removed. You can disable confirmation before deleting

[008] - clipsmm 0.0.4
by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
Sat, Jul 29th 2006 13:14
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Software Development :: Libraries
About: clipsmm is a C++ library that provides an interface to the CLIPS
library. CLIPS provides a C environment for the construction of rule-
and/or object-based expert systems used by NASA, branches of the military,
numerous federal bureaus, government contractors, universities, and many
companies. Several areas in which clipsmm extends the CLIPS interface are
templated function callbacks using sigc++ slots, and encapsulated CLIPS
execution environments.
Changes: This release has a few changes that should make it easier to
build clipsmm on platforms other Fedora Core 5, and perhaps even now
including Windows. In the Environment class, assert() has been changed to
assert_fact() to avoid stepping on the assert macro, which is problematic
in some compilers. Also, the requirement for support of tr1 smart pointers
has been relaxed, and if they aren't found, autoconf will look for boost
smart pointers. Additionally, all the clips.h includes have been wrapped
in extern "C".

[009] - Cobex 0.2.10
by sorn73 (http://freshmeat.net/users/sorn73/)
Sat, Jul 29th 2006 13:11

About: Cobex is a small implementation of the OBEX communication protocol
for slow serial cables. Its primary use is to communicate with cell phones
such as the Sony Ericsson T300, T310, T610, K700i, K750i, K508i, K300i, and
J300i.
Changes: The cobex_mkdir tool was added. Setting the path now works, and
cobex_put can put files to anywhere in the hierarchy where the device
allows. cobex_get now correctly selects the appropriate Obex target; on
K700i, this means that downloading of files is not shown as a
Synchronization operation.

Communications
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
About: conexus is a generalized C++ I/O library that includes support for
IPv4 and IPv6 sockets, serial/TTY communications, and packet capture (via
pcap). It utilizes sigc++ for object communication. A companion library,
conexusmm, provides a set of gtkmm widgets.
Changes: The IP address classes, including IPv4::Address and
IPv6::Address, now have typedefs and create() methods to support smart
pointer creation. IPv6::Address now has a constructor that can take an
IPv4::Address as a parameter, and IPv4::Address has a similar constructor
that checks whether the IPv6 address is IPv4 compatible. The autoconf
check for std::tr1::array has been removed since it is no longer used,
making it easier to build with compilers that do not have tr1 yet.
Dependency on pcap and building the PacketCapture classes are now optional
in autoconf.

[012] - ExactImage 0.0.15
by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
Sat, Jul 29th 2006 03:06
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.
Changes: The edisplay utility was enhanced significantly. It now allows
mouse panning, centered zoom, keeping the zoom and position across images,
and toggling of smooth scaling. Zooming bugs, a grave memory leak, and a
segfault when none of the specified image files can be loaded were fixed.
All external image libraries are now optional and support is compiled
conditionally. Compiling dcraw support without little cms was fixed.

[013] - Extended Python Debugger 1.17
by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
Sat, Jul 29th 2006 08:57
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Extended Python Debugger is a more complete debugger for Python
than the stock pdb.py debugger. It supports a "restart" command,
non-interactive POSIX-like line tracing, command options, disassembly of
instructions, and stack traces that give better information for exec
statements. Stepping/nexting skips over method/function "defs". It tries
to follow gdb's command set unless there is good reason not to.
Changes: Many small improvements have been made to improve usability and
make it possible for planned future changes. You can now call the debugger
without a script name. The gdb "directory" and "show directories" commands
have been implemented. The "examine" command shows more information about
a Python object. This release adds tolerance for Python 2.3.4, 2.3.5, and
Python 2.5b. Systems tested include cygwin, FreeBSD, GNU/Linux, NetBSD, OS
X, and Solaris. Bugs have been fixed and documentation improved.

[032] - OSSP js 1.6.20060729
by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
Sat, Jul 29th 2006 08:58
About: OSSP js is a stand-alone distribution of the Javascript programming
language reference implementation from Mozilla, provided through a build
environment based on GNU autoconf, GNU libtool, and GNU shtool, including
support for easy JavaScript build-time feature set selection (ECMA-3,
JS-1.5, JS-1.6), optional CLI line editing support, optional "stdio" based
File object support, and JS/Perl bindings. The C API in "libjs" contains
both the Javascript engine and the required Sun math library ("fdlibm")
with all internal symbols carefully protected under the "js" namespace. A
js-config utility and a pkg-config specification are provided to allow
applications to easily build with the JavaScript C API.
Changes: This release has been upgraded to Mozilla upstream sources as of
2006-07-29. It changes the GNU libtool shared library versioning from 0:0
to 1:6, increases portability by gracefully downgrading the stat(2) use of
"st_birthtime" to "st_birthtimensec" (or even "st_ctime"), and applies a
few more upstream fixes to the File object implementation.

System
System :: Hardware
About: PBButtons is a daemon to handle special hardware on the Apple
iBook/PowerBook/TiBook. It controls the display brightness, the sound
volume, mutes the sound, changes the trackpad mode, puts the machine to
sleep, or ejects the CDROM on command. It also provides basic power
management features. An included client gives the user visual feedback
about all actions with nice little popup windows.
Changes: This release now uses sysfs and open firmware to detect the
machine type and the I2C device to which the LMU is connected. This leads
to a more detailed machine identification and a more reliable detection of
ambient light sensor and keyboard illumination. A possible division by zero
error in the ALSA module was fixed.

[041] - Vaucanson 1.0
by Vaucanson (http://freshmeat.net/users/Vaucanson/)
Sat, Jul 29th 2006 13:07
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Vaucanson is a finite state machine manipulation platform, composed
of a library and tools implemented on top of it. The goal of this library
is to enable the development of C++ programs in an abstract and general
way with a large specialization power. On the one hand, it allows the
writing of algorithms that work on every automaton with weights over any
semirings and with words from any free monoids. And on the other hand, a
particular algorithm can be specialized for a particular data structure
implementing only a pseudo behavior.
Changes: The "vcsn-z" and "vcsn-tdc" binaries were added to the TAF-kit
toolkit to work with Z automata and FMP transducers. Many commands
(algorithms) have been added in "vcsn-b". Many bugfixes were made for XML.
For instance, the alphabet is no longer filled with the default range if it
is said to be empty. New algorithms were added: is_ambiguous(a) tests if
"a" is ambiguous; sub_normalize_here(a) sub-normalizes the automaton "a";
invert(t) returns the inverse of the RW transducer "t", i.e. the
transducer that performs the invert rational relation.
