Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: The tcpopen health check functionality has been reimplemented.
Upgrading is recommended if the tcpopen health check method is referenced
from the configuration. Health check interval/timeout plausibilty checks
have been added. Logging during bng.conf evaluation at startup has been
extended. The manual has been updated to release 1.594.0.

previous implementation of SCDROM/BIOSCDROM was dropped. A USB/Floppy
EBIOS problem that could cause media-access failure or even hang the
machine when using USB storage devices was fixed. A bug in BOOTLACE.COM
that had improperly set the LBA-indicator byte (which is at offset 0x02 of
the boot sector) was fixed. A bug was fixed in GRLDR that causes failure in
finding the associated MENU.LST config-file (which should be in the same

System :: Hardware

About: Gutenprint (formerly called Gimp-Print) is a collection of very
high quality printer drivers for UNIX/Linux. The goal of this project is
uncompromising print quality and robustness. Included with this package is
the Print plugin for the GIMP (hence the name), a CUPS driver, and two
drivers (traditional and IJS-based) for Ghostscript that may be compiled
into that package. This driver package is Foomatic-compatible and provides
Foomatic data to enable plug and play with many print spoolers. In
addition, various printer maintenance utilities are included. Many users
report that the quality of Gutenprint on high end Epson Stylus printers
matches or exceeds the quality of the drivers supplied for Windows and
Macintosh.

Changes: This release offers improved quality, enhanced functionality, and
support for more printers than Gimp-Print 4.2.7. Only the source package is
currently available.

  Sun, Jul 30th 2006 07:58

Software Development

About: Plan 9 From User Space is a port of the bulk of the Plan 9 software
build environment to Unix. While the libraries make an attempt to play nice
with the rest of the system (by using the Unix rules for printf verbs and
Unix system headers, for example), this port tries to reproduce the Plan 9
build environment as faithfully as possible, providing u.h and libc.h, and
blithely redefining tokens such as open, dup, and accept in order to
provide implementations that better mimic the Plan 9 semantics. The result
is a more complicated and less Unix-friendly environment, but Plan 9
programs can typically be compiled with little or no changes.

About: Sfront compiles MPEG 4 Structured Audio (MP4-SA) bitstreams into
efficient C programs that generate audio when executed. MP4-SA is a
standard for normative algorithmic sound, that combines an audio signal
processing language (SAOL) with score languages (SASL, and the legacy MIDI

SAOL programming.

Changes: This release defaults to writing 16-bit WAV and AIFF files, and

Communications
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony

About: sipX is an Enterprise SIP PBX that comes complete with voice mail
and auto-attendant. It can also be used as a high performance enterprise

server-based solution that does not require any additional hardware, as it
interoperates with any SIP compliant gateway, phone, or application.

Changes: This is a major feature enhancement and bugfix release. The most
significant new feature addition is Call Detail Record data collection and
reporting. This feature also fully supports the proxy / registrar
high-availability configuration introduced in release 3.2. In addition,
this release brings over 150 feature enhancements and bugfixes. The major
focus was further enhancing ease of installation, maintenance, and use.

[061] - SRESI 0.12.0
  by Priscus (http://freshmeat.net/users/priscus/)
  Sun, Jul 30th 2006 15:37

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager, with many interesting tricks
sadly bundled in a lousy interface. SRESI works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: Most of the tree modification functions were dreadfully wrong:
they have been extensively rewritten. Many data structures and functions
were changed to facilitate the modification of trees and portals, while
avoiding a lot of previously necessary code duplication. One trade-off is
some mostly negligible memory waste in the portals; another is an archival
format change (binary only, not DSV). This release makes sure to only
archive balanced data structures. More functions were hooked to the
application engine, and more modifications no longer invalidate the trees.

[065] - UDFclient 0.5.2
  by Reinoud Zandijk (http://freshmeat.net/users/buzztoh/)
  Sun, Jul 30th 2006 21:54

Utilities

About: UDFclient is a userland implementation of the UDF filesystem as
defined by the OSTA group. It is designed to be a study platform and a
run-up to a full read and write (NetBSD) kernel level implementation. It
provides a user interface not unlike ftp but differs in that it always
fetches or writes files recursively. It supports the basic get, mget, put,
mput, mv, rm, mkdir, cd, lcd, free, pwd, and lls command set.

Changes: This is a recommended upgrade that fixes memory corruption bugs
and obscure deadlocks, making it a lot more robust. It is functionally
identical to release 0.5.1.
