Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is a Java-based wiki that provides a virtual wiki for
each registered user, complete with access control and versioning. The
backend includes a built-in database (which uses flat files) and
communicates via RMI to either a Servlet (packaged as a WAR file) or to a
Swing client. AgileWiki is also both an application platform and a
knowledge management system.

Changes: The GUI has been reworked so that there are now 6 optional
feature sets, and the default displays are now simplified. This should be
a boon to new users and a real aid in learning and working with the
AgileWiki. Additionally, the namespace of all Cabinets is now restricted,
isolating each virtual wiki from the others. But you can still use
crInclude and crTagMatch to include items from other Cabinets, as desired.

  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 17:39

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software) project is
an ongoing research effort focusing on applying empirical techniques in
order to provide portable performance. It provides C and Fortran77
interfaces to a portably efficient BLAS implementation, as well as a few
routines from LAPACK.

Changes: An improved CPU throttling probe. A compiler test has been added.
Ffrontend/backend tmpnam collision has been fixed. Parallel make support
has been re-enabled. Buildinfo support has been fixed. A clock speed probe
has been added to config. Make supports performance summary and GNU-style
check. An error has been fixed in -Si nof77 1 that caused config to die
without the f77 compiler. New arch defaults have been added for
P4E[32,64]SSE3 and HAMMER64SSE3. GCC 4.2 support has been improved.

  by SJ (http://freshmeat.net/users/hcoder/)
  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 03:28

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: clapf is a modular network filter for Postfix. It includes a
statistical (inverse chi-square) antispam module, the blackhole feature,
antivirus support (clamav, AVG Linux, avast!, Kaspersky, and Dr. Web), and
CGI and command-line interfaces for easily training the token database.
Users may manage their own spam quarantine. SURBL support is also
included.

Changes: Multiple header lines can be inserted into spam messages. Active
Directory support was added via openldap. Spam can be directed to a
different SMTP server. The spamdrop utility was created, and can be used
with an LDA such as maildrop. It can also connect to a MySQL server via
unix domain socket. The surbl code was modified to prevent unnecessary
lookups. The configure script has better mysql handling. The ESF code is
disabled by default. You may adjust these variables for your needs. The
the chi-square implementation of the GNU GSL library is used if available.
The invalid_junk_characters array was extended.

[006] - ComicMan 0.0.2
  by Jay Scott Raymond (http://freshmeat.net/users/jayscottraymond/)
  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 02:15

About: ComicMan downloads Web comics from the Internet to your hard drive.
It remembers the last download for each title, so you won't get duplicates
from running it multiple times. The application itself is a command line
tool, but it comes with a graphical configuration tool and an editor for
making new Web comic configuration files.

Changes: A "Settings->Configure" menu was added to open a config dialog
box in qcmsetup.pl. Two inf files were updated. ComicMan can be installed
fully self-contained in a user's home directory with "home-install.sh".

[007] - crapsearch 1.0.0
  by tijiji (http://freshmeat.net/users/tijiji/)
  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 02:26

About: The crapsearch utility enhances privacy by polling targeted Web
search engines with random search terms. It does not flood search engines,
but can help disguise your real search habits and prevent the creation of
meaningful search logs and user tracking. It uses local dictionaries,
personal favorite lists, and Web news as sources for random search terms.
It also takes a little care to make differentiation from your real browser
(and therefore real searches) difficult.

Changes: A man page was added. The script no longer uses gzip and instead
strips the HTTP fingerprint's Accept-Encoding: header, because wget cannot
decode any transfer compression method. The default weightings of data
sources have been changed.

[008] - Cypher 0.7.3
  by sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/sdmonroe/)
  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 10:06

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Text Processing :: General
Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Cypher generates the .rdf (RDF graph) and .serql (SeRQL query)
representation of a plain language input. With robust definition
languages, its grammar and lexicon can quickly and easily be extended to
process highly complex sentences and phrases of any natural language, and
can cover any vocabulary. Programmers can build next generation semantic
Web applications that harness natural language.

Changes: A 'rule' attribute has been added to the lexeme element and
frame/..fe element, allowing for semantic restriction to be placed on
frame elements. Noun phrase anaphora references now generate
mso:Prototype.

Information Management
Utilities

About: DROID (Digital Record Object Identification) is a software tool to
perform automated batch identification of file formats. It is designed to
meet the fundamental requirement of any digital repository to be able to
identify the precise format of all stored digital objects, and to link
that identification to a central registry of technical information about
that format and its dependencies. It uses internal and external signatures
to identify and report the specific file format versions of digital files.
These signatures are stored in an XML signature file, generated from
information recorded in the PRONOM technical registry. New and updated
signatures are regularly added to PRONOM, and DROID can be configured to
automatically download updated signature files from the PRONOM Web site
via Web services.

About: Hachoir is a library to easily write a binary file parser: it
represents a file as a tree of fields. Parsers are lazy (just create
needed information) and able to fix some parser/file errors. Many parsers
are included: PNG pictures, AVI videos, MP3 audio, etc. Different
frontends are included: hachoir-metadata extract metadatas from files,
hachoir-urwid is an interactive file explorer, and hachoir-grep can find a
string pattern in a file.

Changes: This release adds a urwid interactive interface to explore a
file, a hachoir-grep script to find a string or list all strings of a
file, new parsers for Ogg, Matroska, IPTC, Photoshop Metadata, ASF (WMV
video and WMA audio), MOV (Quicktime movie), and CDA (Windows audio file),
metadata extractors for Matroska, JPEG, EXIF, and IPTC, improvements to the
RIFF extractor (WAV and AVI), a testcase to help testing Hachoir, and fixes
for all string charset issues (using Unicode in most cases).

Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: JayOS is a live CD distro intended for use as a more secure mobile
environment. It integrates in-RAM filesystem encryption with plausible
deniability for a system that can be difficult to alter without
rebuilding. This offers a user with a high degree of data integrity; since
all filesystems are either static or encrypted, the system is resistant to
physical attacks. Features 2.6 kernel, unionfs, many network security and
filesystem tools, UML, and QEMU. It runs well on low-end x86 hardware, and
requires only 128MB RAM and a bootable CD drive to get started. There is
some PowerPC support. Also included is standard desktop software. It is
based on Linux From Scratch.

Changes: The kernel was upgraded to 2.6.17.4. Firefox, sylpheed, gtkpod,
xine, and mplayer were also upgraded. Networking works again. As promised,
information is disclosed on how encrypted filesystems are managed under
JayOS. See Encryption-HOWTO.txt and the Makefile. The x86 build has been
brought up to date and is incorporated into the iMac build. Both sources
will build an ISO that is directly bootable on x86 hardware. Make targets
have been updated and simplified for x86 and iMac.

Software Development :: Documentation
Text Editors :: Documentation
Text Processing :: Markup

About: Lp4all allows you to document your code directly inside the
language comments, using a simple Wiki-like syntax. It then generates an
HTML browsable version of your code and documentation. It is similar to
the traditional Noweb literate programming tool, except that Noweb doesn't
work when one must use a specific third-party editor to edit the source
code. In Lp4all, documentation is stored in the comments of the language:
the original source code is still directly usable by the language
compiler. Lp4all is also language-agnostic: it doesn't know anything about
functions, methods, constants, or classes.

Changes: Files with a .lp4all suffix and Wiki content now generate HTML
files. The HTML special characters in non-wiki code are escaped now. The
Target directory is automatically created if it does not exist, and Lp4all
checks for the availability of source-highlight or python-ply.

  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 02:54

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Networking

About: MIB Smithy is an application for SNMP and COPS developers, MIB and
PIB designers, and Internet-draft authors. It provides a GUI-based
environment for designing, editing, and compiling MIB and PIB modules
according to the SMIv1, SMIv2, and COPS-PR-SPPI standards. It accelerates
the development process by providing an easy-to-use GUI-based environment
for developing the specifications without the syntax and formatting
concerns of editing the modules by hand. It includes a number of built-in
basic SNMP management tools, XML support, and (with MIB Smithy
Professional) support for custom compiler output formats.

Changes: Bugs affecting the Tasks list, Trap Watch tool,
AGENT-CAPABILITIES workspace, and handling of illegal self-referential
OIDs were fixed. Copy-to-clipboard support was added to the Tasks list.

  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 05:49

System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: MIB Views is an entry-level SNMP management application providing
an easy to use tabbed interface with several SNMP tools. The tools are
based partly on those bundled in MIB Smithy, with a more consolidated GUI
and new features. The suite includes MIB Browser (Tree View), SNMP Query,
Table View, SNMP Walk, and Trap Watch tools, with more tools and plugin
features in the works. MIB Views supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3,
with MD5 and SHA authentication and DES encryption.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in the Trap Watch tool that caused an
error upon reaching the threshold for dropping old events (to keep the
event list from growing without bound).

[030] - MultiTail 4.1.2 (Development)
  by Folkert van Heusden (http://freshmeat.net/users/fvh/)
  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 03:25

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: "TAI64" timestrings (as emitted by Q-mail) can now be converted
to ASCII strings. Scrolling to the right in the scrollback window now
keeps the colors. A default parameter can be set in the configuration file
to choose whether to follow the filename or the filedescriptor (the file
that we started to follow initially). The default linewrap mode can be set
in the configuration file. "B" in the main window will start the scrollback
window with all windows merged into one window.

  Fri, Aug 18th 2006 03:05

Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Sleep is an embeddable scripting solution for Java applications. It
is heavily inspired by Perl with bits of Objective-C thrown in. Features
include function closures as first-class types, a unified I/O interface
for sockets/processes/files, and the ability to instantiate/query Java
objects. The Sleep Java API allows the language to be extended with new
constructs, operators, functions, and variable containers.

Changes: A "strict" mode that warns scripters for failure to declare a
variable was added. An issue with scripts servicing multiple clients
through listening sockets was fixed. Several functions were updated to
accept an array or closure as an argument. When a closure is specified,
the bridge will iterate over it until $null is returned. Scripter access
to setting and querying the current debug level was added. Several other
small bugfixes and enhancements were made.

About: Xdialog is designed to be a drop-in replacement for the dialog and
cdialog programs. It converts any terminal-based program into a program
with an X interface. The dialogs are easier to see and use, and Xdialog
adds more functionality such as a help button and box, a treeview, an
editbox, file and directory selectors, a range box, and a calendar. It
uses GTK+, and will match your desktop theme.

Changes: This release fixes the bug introduced in 2.3.0 where the "Hide
typing" check button always appeared in the input boxes, regardless of the
existence of a password field.

About: smake is a higly portable make program with automake features. It
implements a complete superset of the features of the classical Unix make
program. It warns about typical misusage of dynamic macros that prevent
portability of makefiles.

Changes: This release fixes a bug with string processing on the "growable
buffer" that caused smake to dump core in cases of certain string length
combinations for macros.
