  Sat, Aug 19th 2006 01:39

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Cairo is a vector graphics library with cross-device output
support. It currently supports the X Window System and in-memory image
buffers as output targets. It is designed to produce identical output on
all output media while taking advantage of display hardware acceleration
when available (eg. through the X Render Extension). It provides a
stateful user-level API with capabilities similar to the PDF 1.4 imaging
model and provides operations including stroking and filling Bezier cubic
splines, transforming and compositing translucent images, and antialiased
text  rendering.

Changes: Several build system problems were fixed. Some rendering fixes
were made.

time-out, and upload/download bandwidth limitations. You can monitor all
user activities. Both upload and download files are resumable. A database
and LDAP can be used to store user data. "MODE Z" is supported for faster
transfers.

Changes: Icons were added for the Start/Stop button. Configuration of user
login limitations was implemented. Bugs were fixed.

[006] - Efax-gtk 3.0.11 (Stable)
  by Chris Vine (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvine/)
  Sat, Aug 19th 2006 23:51

About: Efax-gtk provides a GUI frontend for the efax fax program. It
interfaces with efax directly, replacing the scripts supplied with efax,
and can be used for receiving and sending faxes, and for viewing,
printing, and managing faxes which have been received and sent. It also
has a socket interface that provides a "virtual printer" for sending faxes
from word processors and similar programs, and can automatically e-mail a
received fax to a designated user and automatically print a received fax.

Changes: Printing of faxes in fax lists is implemented via the GTK+ print
system when compiled against GTK+ 2.10 or higher. Various bugs were fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Helma is a Web application framework for fast and efficient
scripting and serving of Web sites and Internet applications. Helma
employs JavaScript for its server-side scripting environment, removing the
need for compilation cycles and reducing development costs while giving you
instant access to leverage the whole wealth of Java libraries out there.
Helma offers simple and codeless mapping of application objects to
database tables. In addition, an embedded object-oriented database
performs automatic data persistence of unmapped objects.

Changes: This release is intended to be the last release before the first

System :: Monitoring

About: Honeyd is a small daemon that creates virtual hosts on a network.
The hosts can be configured to run arbitrary services, and their TCP
personality can be adapted so that they appear to be running certain
versions of operating systems. Honeyd enables a single host to claim
multiple addresses on a LAN for network simulation. It is possible to ping
the virtual machines, or to traceroute them. Any type of service on the
virtual machine can be simulated according to a simple configuration file.
Instead of simulating a service, it is also possible to proxy it to another
machine.

Changes: A crash in the ARP handling code was fixed. The default actions
for UDP packets were fixed.

  Sat, Aug 19th 2006 12:15

Scientific/Engineering

About: Impact is a finite element program for simulation of dynamic events
such as car crashes or other large deformation events. It is kept very
simple to make it intuitive to use and easy to change and extend. The
program includes a NURBS based pre-processor for modelling, a solver with
editor, a post-processor, and a graph plotter for results viewing. Impact
also interfaces with several other programs, such as Nastran and Gmsh.

Changes: The solver is now more than 1000% faster during initialization of
node sorting and 25% faster during the solution process. On the GUI side,
axis is now present also in OpenGL view, always positioned on rotation
center. Selected filenames are shown in the window header, and Impact
remembers the directory from the most recent session. For the
preprocessor, a spline curve now fits properly to points (if this option
is selected) and has an improved nodal distribution.

Office/Business

About: Simple Groupware is a complete groupware package. Unlike other
groupwares, Simple Groupware contains a new programming language called
sgsML, which was created to quickly create powerful Web applications.

Changes: Support for the new Simple Groupware Client was added. Assets can
now be stored on the desktop for offline usage and synchronized with PDAs
and mobile phones. Setup was changed to detect incorrect include_path
settings in php.ini. The Swift browser (Windows version with Safari
engine) was enabled in the browser check and phpinfo.php was renamed for
security reasons. Some smaller bugfixes were applied.

[030] - SRESI 0.13.4
  by Priscus (http://freshmeat.net/users/priscus/)
  Sat, Aug 19th 2006 12:27

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: The PHP script is mostly feature-complete, with an improved
presentation. An HTML equivalent to DSV was added. All tag manipulations
now unbalance the structures instead of voiding them. Many small
improvements were made under the hood.

[031] - Synbak 1.0.7
  by Ugo Viti (http://freshmeat.net/users/ugoviti/)
  Sat, Aug 19th 2006 12:33

About: Synbak is an application designed to unify several backup methods.
It provides a powerful reporting system and a very simple interface for
configuration files. It can make backups using rsync (via crypted ssh,
rsync, SMB, and CIFS protocols), tar (tar, tar.gz, and tar.bz2) archives,
tape (even using multi-loader changer tapes), MySQL databases, Oracle
database, LDAP directories, CDR/CD-RW/DVR/DVD-RW, and more. It can
generate final reports via email, HTML pages, and RSS feeds. Developers
can easily write new backup methods, reports, and translations.

Changes: The Synbak Server Hostname was added to the email report subject.
The SMB/CIFS mount procedure is more robust. The program falls back to CIFS
mount if the current kernel doesn't support the SMBFS protocol. Some minor
bugs were fixed.
