[001] - Amaroc 0.3
by synan (http://freshmeat.net/users/synan/)
Wed, Aug 23rd 2006 23:01
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
About: Amaroc is an ncurses "frontend" for Amarok. It uses DCOP calls, and
its purpose is to ease control of Amarok over a network.
Changes: Resizing doesn't work as it should, so it was "fixed" to die on
resizing. The terminal size must be at least 70x9 for the program to run.
A problem in which artist and song names were clipped at 30 chars was
fixed. XML special character codes like "&" were fixed so that they now
display the characters they represent. Minor code cleanup was done.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
About: Amarok is a sound system-independent audio-player for Unix. Its
interface uses a powerful "browser" metaphor that allows you to create
playlists that make the most of your music collection.
Changes: New features include DAAP support for remote music sharing,
Dynamic Collection (removable media support), and improved Last.fm
streaming. Also, Amarok can now access MTP media devices, and is
compatible with LibVisual 0.4 and LibTunePimp 0.5. Crossfading has been
much improved, and many bugs have been fixed thanks to a code analysis
from klocwork.com.

About: Campsite is a multilingual content management system (CMS) for news
Web sites. Campsite's user interface was built with the end user
(journalist, editor, publisher) in mind, and it can be configured to suit
different profiles of end users. Campsite follows the print-newspaper
publishing paradigm, so it structures sites by default as Publications >
Issues > Sections > Articles. Campsite works best for medium-to-large-size
online news publications, but it is capable of handling nimbler sites too.
Changes: Thirty-two (32) bugs were fixed, the Spanish, Russian, and
Romanian translations were updated, a new Dutch translation was added, and
all sample templates are now available for 2.6.X.

by lausser (http://freshmeat.net/users/lausser/)
Wed, Aug 23rd 2006 01:46
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap
which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had
happened between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify
where to search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is
found.
Changes: The code was cleaned up. NSCA support was removed in favor of a
more flexible script handling. Support was added for script parameters and
modeling of the script's input. Matches are now passed as environment
parameters to scripts.

[016] - crapsearch 1.1.0
by tijiji (http://freshmeat.net/users/tijiji/)
Wed, Aug 23rd 2006 13:48
About: The crapsearch utility enhances privacy by polling targeted Web
search engines with random search terms. It does not flood search engines,
but can help disguise your real search habits and prevent the creation of
meaningful search logs and user tracking. It uses local dictionaries,
personal favorite lists, and Web news as sources for random search terms.
It also takes a little care to make differentiation from your real browser
(and therefore real searches) difficult.
Changes: The option to log all random search queries has been added.
Referrers are now sent with requests, and query words are lowercased and
more randomly selected. Multiple search result pages are now fetched
occasionally, and the code has been restructured. A few bugfixes have been
applied.

About: Logback is intended as a successor to the popular log4j project,
and was designed by log4j's founder, Ceki Gulcu. The basic architecture is
sufficiently generic so as to apply under different circumstances. It is
divided into three modules. The Core module lays the groundwork for the
other two modules. The Classic module can be assimilated to an improved
version of log4j. It natively implements the SLF4J API so that you can
readily switch back and forth between logback and other logging systems,
such as log4j or JDK14 Logging. The Access module integrates with Servlet
containers to provide HTTP access log functionality. You can easily build
your own modules on top of the Core module.

[044] - Nautilus Actions 1.4
by RUAUDEL Frédéric (http://freshmeat.net/users/grumz/)
Wed, Aug 23rd 2006 05:52
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Nautilus Actions is an extension for Nautilus, the GNOME file
manager, which allows you to configure programs to be launched on files
selected in the Nautilus interface. Each time you right-click on one or
several selected files in Nautilus, Nautilus Actions will parse its
configuration files to see if a program has been set for this selection.
If one has been set, it will add an item to the menu that allows you to
execute the program on the selected files.
Changes: A bug with Nautilus was fixed to make it update its popup menus
when a configuration value changes in Nautilus-actions. The problem with
the Export feature in Nact when the config contains some XML special
characters was fixed. Error handling in Nact was improved, and now
displays error dialogs when necessary. The icon preview in Nact which was
displaying a bad icon in some special cases was fixed. The creation of the
"%M" parameter pattern was fixed when selecting files in virtual
"SavedSearch" folders. The extension part was optimized by updating the
config list only when it has changed and not each time Nautilus asks for
it.

Software Development :: Interpreters
About: SISC is an extensible Java-based interpreter of the algorithmic
language Scheme. It uses modern interpretation techniques and handily
outperforms all existing Java interpreters (often by more than an order of
magnitude). In addition, SISC is a complete implementation of the language.
The entire R5RS Scheme standard is supported. This includes a full number
tower including complex number support and arbitrary precision integers
and floating point numbers, proper tail recursion, hygienic macros, and
full support for first-class continuations (not just the escaping
continuations found in many other systems).
Changes: Fixes handling of escaped newlines in multi-line comments.
Removes the unused "fix" syntax token, which was causing binding problems
for procedures of the same name.

System :: Filesystems
About: Squashfs is a highly compressed read-only filesystem for Linux 2.4
and Linux 2.6. It uses zlib to compress files, inodes, and directories.
All blocks are packed to minimise the data overhead, and block sizes of
between 4K and 32K are supported. It is intended to be used as a
filesystem for archival use and in embedded systems where low overhead is
needed, and has been tested on PowerPC, i586, SPARC, and ARM
architectures.
Changes: This version applies some major improvements to the
Squashfs-tools (Mksquashfs and Unsquashfs). In particular, Mksquashfs has
been parallelized. There are also some major bugfixes, numerous smaller

[067] - Synbak 1.0.8
by Ugo Viti (http://freshmeat.net/users/ugoviti/)
Wed, Aug 23rd 2006 01:27
About: Synbak is an application designed to unify several backup methods.
It provides a powerful reporting system and a very simple interface for
configuration files. It can make backups using rsync (via crypted ssh,
rsync, SMB, and CIFS protocols), tar (tar, tar.gz, and tar.bz2) archives,
tape (even using multi-loader changer tapes), MySQL databases, Oracle
database, LDAP directories, CDR/CD-RW/DVR/DVD-RW, and more. It can
generate final reports via email, HTML pages, and RSS feeds. Developers
can easily write new backup methods, reports, and translations.
Changes: Miscellaneous graphical enhancements were made to the HTML and
RSS reports. Because Synbak is not architecture (i386, x86_64, ppc, etc.)
dependent, the methods, reports, and function files were moved from
/usr/lib/synbak to /usr/share/synbak for better compatibility on multilib
systems. HTML reports can now be viewed correctly on terminal based
browsers (like elinks, lynx, etc.). An initial FAQ (frequently asked
questions) text file was added to the main synbak package.

About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do
consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with
composite tasks.
Changes: In addition to bugfixes, this release adds a filter sidebar for
easy filtering, printing support, and the ability to export to HTML.
