  by KeyMonkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/keymonkey/)
  Sat, Aug 26th 2006 02:49

About: Andy's PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven knowledge base
management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

Changes: This release adds some text and formatting fixes and improvements
to article submission.

[002] - Aranea framework 1.0-RC1
  by Taimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/taimo/)
  Sat, Aug 26th 2006 02:48

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.

Changes: Major enhancements in this first release candidate include
optimized session size, support for both external linking and opening
links in a new browser window, and a reworked Javascript API. Internal
coding and naming standards have been reviewed and written down in the
"Aranea Development Guide", and the codebase refactored to comply with
them.

[008] - HTTP extension for PHP 1.2.1
  by Michael Wallner (http://freshmeat.net/users/_mike_/)
  Sat, Aug 26th 2006 02:53

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The HTTP extension for PHP aims to provide a convenient and
powerful set of functionality for one of PHP's major applications. It
eases handling of HTTP URLs, dates, redirects, headers, and messages,
provides means for negotiation of clients' preferred language and charset,
as well as a convenient way to send any arbitrary data with caching and
resuming capabilities. It provides powerful request functionality if built
with CURL support. Parallel requests are available for PHP 5 and greater.

Changes: This release adds HttpException::__toString(), which takes care
of any inner exceptions and disallows detaching HttpRequest objects from
HttpRequestPool while executing progress callbacks. It fixes a crash on
detaching requests from the pool in request event callbacks, suppression
of nested exceptions (e.g., in HttpRequestPool::send()), and issues with
inheritance and cloning of HttpDeflateStream, HttpInflateStream, and
HttpMessage (Extending classes lose default properties on instantiation;
Complex members are ignored during cloning).

About: Jaggregate is a Java collections library that is modeled after the
ANSI Smalltalk collection protocols. It only works with J2SE 5.

Changes: Several static factory methods were added to the concrete
collection classes to leverage generic type inference. The Interval class
and its supporting structures were added. Intervals are read-only
arithmetic progressions of numbers. The Arrays class was added for
manipulating arrays. Collections.toDictionary(UnaryFunction) and
Collections.toIdentityDictionary(UnaryFunction) were added.

Database :: API
Scientific/Engineering

About: JDBCPersistence is an Object Relational Mapping framework.
Designed for use in high volume online banking applications, the package
delivers performance matching that exhibited by hand-written JDBC code. It
uses a bytecode generation technique to create bytecode for classes that
implement logic used for persisting the data. As the framework uses SQL
for querying data, the learning curve is reduced. The footprint of the
package is under  200KB.

[011] - libferris 1.1.98
  by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
  Sat, Aug 26th 2006 02:47

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems

About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with fam), XML
(mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb, Evolution, Firefox,
Emacs, LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA
generators include image, audio, and animation decoders.

Changes: New Clucene 0.8.x fulltext and metadata index modules were
included along with a new Xapian metadata index module. There were updates
for single term redland metadata index queries, and the redland metadata
index module now uses db environments where available.
libferris-googleearth now also falls back to /usr/local/bin for the
libferris-googleearth-bouncer.pl path and supports miles as a unit in
geographic queries. A new "Global Smush Group Leader Regex" was added to
indicate URLs which are always new content.

  Sat, Aug 26th 2006 11:40

Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion
Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: Libquicktime is based on the great quicktime4linux library with
several enhancements. All 3rd-party libraries were removed from the
sourcetree. Instead, the systemwide installed libraries are detected by
the configure script. All original codecs were moved into dynamically
loadable modules, and new codecs are in development. Libquicktime is
source-compatible with quicktime4linux (i.e., all quicktime4linux apps can
be linked with libquicktime). Special API extensions allow access to the
codec registry and more convenient processing of Audio and Video data.
Libquicktime comes with all original utility programs, and additional
tools, like a commandline player and a GTK configuration utility which can
configure the parameters of all installed codecs. The configuration is
stored in the home directory and is be used by all libquicktime
applications.

Changes: This is a bugfix release, no new features were added. Writing of
compressed frames (important for DVgrab/Kino) was fixed, as well as
seeking with some codecs. Furthermore, the source tree and CVS were
cleaned up.

live scoring program that is best suited for working with leagues hosted
at Yahoo!. It is meant to be run by one member of the league so that the
rest of the members can view the output.

Changes: This version allows Statfink to work for the 2006 football
season. It automatically grabs all your league's team data for your Yahoo
fantasy football leagues and calculates your entire league's scores, live
as the games happen.

System :: Boot

About: SYSLINUX is a collection of boot loaders for the Linux operating
system which operates on Linux EXT2/EXT3 filesystems, MS-DOS FAT
filesystems, network servers using PXE firmware, or from CD-ROMs. SYSLINUX
has an advanced extension API and contains two optional menu systems. It
also includes MEMDISK, a tool for booting legacy operating systems from
non-traditional media like PXE or CD-ROM.

Changes: This version clears up a bunch of old limitations, supports
building against klibc, and supports boot decisions based on DMI
information.

Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: videotrans is a set of scripts that convert a movie file in any
format that mplayer understands to a DVD-compatible VOB file, doing all
the necessary conversions automatically. An automatic DVD menu generator
is also provided.

Changes: A bug was fixed in movie-title where movie-title would call
ImageMagick's convert with wrong parameters, producing a defective PNG
which would cause spumux (in the dvdauthor package) to crash later on in
the building process. Whether this would happen or not seems fairly
random, but it was a big nuisance that affected a lot of users.
movie-rip-tv.com now works again with tv.com's new URL format.
