[001] - Aranea framework 1.0-RC2
by Taimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/taimo/)
Sat, Sep 2nd 2006 02:27
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.
Changes: Bugfixes and maintenance.

[003] - Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer 0.4
by Scarfy (http://freshmeat.net/users/Scarfy/)
Sat, Sep 2nd 2006 02:28
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
About: Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer is a 3rd person action shooter. With
the apparent defeat of Galdov and the reclaiming of the Fire, Time, Space,
and Reality Crystals, the Blobs' battle was only just beginning. Bob had
rescued many Blobs and fought many battles, but now he had an ever bigger
task ahead of him. The Blobs' homeworld is still littered with the alien
forces and Bob once again makes it his task to lead the counter attack.
But even without Galdov the aliens are still extremely well organised.
Changes: Decals was added. The collision detection routine was fixed to
remove random crashes. Extra configuration options were included. Enemy
Base 2, part 3 was fixed to not loop around on itself on completion. Music
for time limits was added. Blobs can no longer use switches that require
special items. Some more sound effects were included. Possible fixes for
64-bit and non-x86 chips were implemented along with lots of miscellaneous
fixes.

Sat, Sep 2nd 2006 02:25
About: Bluewhite64 Linux is an unofficial port of Slackware Linux to the
AMD-64/EM64T architectures. It runs on 64-bit AMD Athlon, Opteron,
Sempron, and Intel EM64T (Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology) based
servers and computers. The goal of this port is to mimic the user
experience of the Intel x86 distribution at its best. This port includes
the same software and configuration scripts found in slackware-current
tree.
Changes: The 2.6.17.11 stable Linux kernel was added along with many
improved, fixed, and upgraded packages.

by Simon Kagstrom (http://freshmeat.net/users/sys2066/)
Sat, Sep 2nd 2006 07:12
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Cibyl is a programming environment that allows compiled C programs
to execute on J2ME-capable phones. Cibyl uses GCC to compile the C
programs to MIPS binaries, and these are then recompiled into Java
bytecode. The programs are not parsed during runtime, and Cibyl is
therefore relatively well-performing. With Cibyl, games written in C can
be ported to J2ME without switching language.
Changes: This release adds major performance enhancements, generates more
compact Java bytecode, and supports a larger subset of ANSI C
functionality.

Sat, Sep 2nd 2006 02:29
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Coeli SkyServer streams live astronomical data to file at
user-specified intervals. It is a computationally rigorous backend for
planetaria, sky charts, ephemerides, astrological, or any application that
may need real-time celestial data, making such data continuously available
for processing either textually or graphically by your display script.
SkyServer dishes your data out in digestible form, readable by both human
and software.
Changes: The package now includes SkyShow Electric Planisphere, a GTK+
frontend for showing skyserver in action. Facing, Elevation, and
Projection were added to the skyserver.cfg properties. Scripts can now
direct skyserver to face N, S, E, or W at any angle of elevation to view
the sky in one of the following projections: Equal Area, Equidistant,
Stereographic, and Gnomonic.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Dozer is a powerful, yet simple Java Bean to Java Bean mapper that
recursively copies data from one object to another. Typically, these Java
Beans will be of different complex types. Dozer supports simple property
mapping, complex type mapping, bi-directional mapping, implicit-explicit
mapping, as well as recursive mapping. This includes mapping collection
attributes that also need mapping at the element level. It not only
supports mapping between attribute names, but also conversion between
types. Many conversion scenarios are supported out of the box, but custom
conversions can be specified via XML.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The GNU Compact Disc Input and Control library encapsulates CD-ROM
reading and control for applications wishing to be oblivious to the OS-
and device-dependent properties of a CD-ROM. It provides an API for access
to SCSI-MMC (multimedia commands) and support for CD image types like
BIN/CUE, cdrdao's TOC, and Nero's NRG, which gives applications using the
library the ability to read disc images as though they were CDs. ISO-9660
filesystem support is included, as are utility programs for displaying CD
and CD-ROM drive information, reading the blocks of a CD, and extracting
files from an ISO-9660 filesytem image. cdparanoia is also included.

[011] - ignis 0.3
by Robert Penz (http://freshmeat.net/users/robertpenz/)
Sat, Sep 2nd 2006 02:26
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: ignis is a special backup program for the SOHO sector. It
implements a full-backup strategy, a mix between the backup schemes of GFS
and Tower of Hanoi. It is meant for backing up onto DVDs or simular media.
Normally, it is called via cron to perform the backups and checks. Reports
are sent via mail.
Changes: tar, tar.gz, and tar.bz2 backup methods are now supported. gpg
can be used for symmetric or public key encryption. A new metadata system
was implemented, which will make it possible to search for files without
inserting the mediums. The configuration used to perform a backup is now
also copied to the medium so that ignis can be recovered after a hard disk
failure.

by Jay Lewis (http://freshmeat.net/users/modernpharoah/)
Sat, Sep 2nd 2006 17:38
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: JayOS is a live CD distro intended for use as a more secure mobile
environment. It integrates in-RAM filesystem encryption with plausible
deniability for a system that can be difficult to alter without
rebuilding. This offers a user with a high degree of data integrity; since
all filesystems are either static or encrypted, the system is resistant to
physical attacks. Features 2.6 kernel, unionfs, many network security and
filesystem tools, UML, and QEMU. It runs well on low-end x86 hardware, and
requires only 128MB RAM and a bootable CD drive to get started. There is
some PowerPC support. Also included is standard desktop software. It is
based on Linux From Scratch.
Changes: A full-featured 2.6.9 kernel with the same drivers as Redhat's
Enterprise Linux was added. It should boot almost any machine that can
possibly be supported. Audio works for Intel Macs now. Documentation
online and on CD was updated. Booting under QEMU has improved, and the
Windows demo CD has been brought up to date. Many cleanups were made in
the Makefile and root scripts.

About: Wacom ExpressKeys supports the fairly recent additions of
ExpressKeys, Touch Strips, and a Scroll Wheel on certain Wacom tablets.
Specifically the Cintiq 21UX Interactive Pen Display, the Intuos3, and the
Graphire4 tablets are supported through the XInput and XTest extensions in
X. Using "xsetwacom", it can also provide an automatic change of stylus
pressure sensitivity (a.k.a. PressCurve) when going from one program
window to the next. This feature is independent of the connected tablet
model. A graphical configuration tool named "wacom-config" is under
development.
Changes: Support for the scroll wheel and two ExpressKeys on the Graphire4
was added. This feature requires a bleeding edge version of the linuxwacom
driver. When running under versions earlier than 0.7.5, a Graphire4 will
still be identified as 'padless'. A minor bugfix and some code
enhancements were also included.
