Information Management
About: AgileWiki is a Java-based wiki that provides a virtual wiki for
each registered user, complete with access control and versioning. The
backend includes a built-in database (which uses flat files) and
communicates via RMI to either a Servlet (packaged as a WAR file) or to a
Swing client. AgileWiki is also both an application platform and a
knowledge management system.
Changes: A bug in which copies of Include CSecs were not working was
fixed. IncludeCSec display was enhanced so that the referent is now
"clickable". The following new commands were added for semantic relations:
relations, removeQualifier, qualifierFor, qualifiers, and addQualifier.

[002] - Areca 3.4
by Olivier PETRUCCI (http://freshmeat.net/users/aventin/)
Tue, Sep 19th 2006 21:34
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Areca is a file backup system that supports data compression and
encryption, incremental backups, a file history explorer, and many other
features. It includes a transaction mechanism, which guarantees the
integrity of your backups. Two user interfaces are available: a
command-line interface (useful for backup process automation) and a
graphical user interface (useful for general administration tasks).
Changes: Files can be filtered by date and size. Archive medium
refactoring can be done. Empty directories can now be tracked. Note that
if you have created "Image" targets (i.e. non-incremental targets), you
will have to relaunch a backup process on these targets. (Incremental
targets are not affected.)

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
About: The aim of auch is to visualize harmonics in musical recordings and
the effect of analog/digital filters on the spectrum. There are plenty of
tools that visualize the spectrum. The difference here is that one or two
octaves can be focused on, so that notes, chords, and harmonics become
clear. Another feature is that this tool is aimed comparing audio out (eg.
a .wav file) with audio in. This way, external filters added between the
audio output and input of your sound card can be studied.
Changes: Visualization of Audio Wavelet Transformation (HAAR) was added.
Extra documentation and examples were added.

by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Tue, Sep 19th 2006 23:42
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Conary updates more robustly by trying to update conary itself
first and then restarting itself to finish the update. Several database
queries have been significantly sped up. The cvc refresh command has been
implemented to allow re-fetching autosource files that have changed
content without changing name (often of the form foo.tar.gz with no
version number included).

Database :: Front-Ends
About: DbWrench is multi-vendor, multi-platform database design and
synchronization software. Features include a syntax highlighting SQL
query editor, support for many of today's most popular databases, a
graphic entity relation diagram (ERD) designer, and the ability to
forward and reverse engineer databases. Its multi-vendor and
multi-platform functionality makes it ideal for heterogeneous database
environments.
Changes: This release features two significant enhancements. The first of
these enhancements is support for database schemas. All aspects of
DbWrench now support schemas. The second major enhancement is the Reverse
Synchronize feature. This feature allows users to synchronize changes made
directly on the database server back into the DbWrench design. As well,
there have been other improvements in performance and usability.

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Database
About: Decimail Server is a mail server supporting IMAP and SMTP that uses
a PostgreSQL database to store messages. Mailboxes are defined using SQL
queries, allowing complex client-independent automatic message filtering
and categorisation. For example you can partition your messages
chronologically, by correspondent, and by mailing list at the same time,
with each message appearing in several mailboxes. You can also use
PostgreSQL's text indexing extension for fast keyword searching. Decimail
also features anti-spam processing of outgoing messages.
Changes: This release uses PostgreSQL's text search extension, tsearch2,
to enable fast keyword searching. In the default configuration, you can
simply create a folder called "Subjects/Beer|Pub" which will automatically
contain all messages with either of those keywords in its subject. There
are also some IMAP syntax fixes.

[030] - Monitoring API 2.0 Beta1
by Arne Oslebo (http://freshmeat.net/users/arneos/)
Tue, Sep 19th 2006 05:02
Internet
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: MAPI, or Monitoring API, is a multi-user programming interface
designed to simplify the development of network monitoring software and
allow users to express their monitoring needs in a device-independent way.
The main abstraction provided is the network flow. Although flows have been
used before in network monitoring systems, MAPI gives flows a first-class
status. Applications that use MAPI can specify what flows or flow
statistics they are interested in by applying functions to flows. A MAPI
function can be a BPF filter, string search, or packet counter, or more
advanced like a NetFlow generator. These functions will automatically run
in hardware if there is support for it on the hardware being used.
Changes: This release includes support for distributed monitoring, several
new MAPI functions, demo applications, and a lot of bugfixes.

[038] - POMStrap 1.0.5
by Alag (http://freshmeat.net/users/Alag/)
Tue, Sep 19th 2006 14:04
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: POMStrap is a really simple Java application bootstrap and
classloader trick that allows dependency "classloading" without side
effect. POMStrap uses Maven2 pom files to resolve dependencies required to
launch an application. For example, if your application depends on A-1.0
(and can only work with this version) and B-1.0; and if B-1.0 also depends
on A-2.0, then B-1.0's dependency won't normally be able to be satisfied
without violating another one of your application's dependencies. POMStrap
avoids this kind of dependency conflict.
Changes: This release fixes a few bugs in the class loader and dependency
manager. The bootstrap API has also been changed for better control of
parent class loader injection. Upgrading is recommended.

About: The Unicode Description Utilities is a set of four programs for
finding out what is in a Unicode file. uniname defaults to printing the
character offset of each character, its byte offset, its hex code value,
its encoding, the glyph itself, and its name. Command line options allow
undesired information to be suppressed and the Unicode range to be added.
unidesc reports the character ranges to which different portions of the
text belong. unihist generates a histogram of the characters in its input.
ExplicateUTF8 is intended for debugging or for learning about Unicode. It
determines and explains the validity of a sequence of bytes as a UTF-8
encoding.
Changes: Unidesc and unihist now print detailed error information on
