[001] - ACE 5.5a (Riverace Fix Kits)
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Tue, Oct 3rd 2006 14:27

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.

Changes: This release adds a new message queue class for enqueueing and
dequeueing multiple chained objects at once. It adds the method
ACE_Task::last_thread() to determine the last thread to exit from the
ACE_Task object. The selector and comparator function pointer arguments to
ACE_OS::scandir() and ACE_Dirent_Selector are now marked as extern "C".
ACE_OS::strptime() has been fixed to be POSIX compliant. Several methods
in ACE_SSL_Context have been fixed to support file load retries.
ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream can be instantiated. There are minor code cleanups
and scopefixes.

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Security
System :: Monitoring

About: Advchk (Advisory Check) reads security advisories so you don't have
to. It gathers security advisories using RSS feeds, compares them to a list
of known software, and alerts you if you're vulnerable. Since adding
software lists by hand would be quite a boring task, it leverages your
systems package manager for detecting software. Using it can be as simple
as "advchk -F myhost.list". Quite a few CERTs and Vendors also offer
security-relevant RSS feeds, and some usenet gateways like Google Groups
offer RSS subscriptions.

Changes: A small bug was fixed in enableSshUpdate.sh, which led to an
error when .ssh/.id_?sa was missing. Ruby and django lists were added via
Google groups.

  by Tony Kay (http://freshmeat.net/users/tkay/)
  Tue, Oct 3rd 2006 14:34

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: AlphaMail is a mod_perl webmail system with a C++ middleware
component that is intended to make the system highly scalable. It supports
many Unix variants with any RFC-compliant IMAP server (including UW, Cyrus,
and Dovecot).

Changes: This is primarily a bugfix release. The webcache timeout code has
been reworked for fast failure of repeated requests that tend to clog up
Apache. Several problems with imap_webcache that cause certain strange
folder names (e.g. containing quotes) to fail have been fixed. A potential
multi-thread safety issue in the netxx library has been fixed. Support has
been added for URL anchors in linkify. Better feedback has been added to
several controls. The attachment upload prevents input that will be lost.

About: Channel is a C++ template framework for distributed message passing
and event dispatching. Its major components (message IDs, routing
algorithms...) are highly configurable as template parameters. As a
namespace shared by peer threads, channels support publish/subscribe scope
control, message filtering, and translation.

Changes: The source code layout was restructured. Code was moved into the
following subdirectories: name_spaces, dispatchers, executors, and
streams. This makes the design intention clear as to where the plug and
playable components should be and what their interfaces are. A "stream"
class was added on top of a shared memory message queue to connect two
remote channels in two processes on the same box. Sample code was added
for a distributed chat server and a shared memory channel connection.

  Tue, Oct 3rd 2006 14:30

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Security

About: DACS provides enhanced role-based access control and authentication
functionality for Apache, including light-weight single sign-on. The DACS
rule processing engine can be used by any program or script to make
data-driven access control decisions rather than code-driven ones, and its
authentication framework can be invoked via HTTP or from the command line.

Changes: This is primarily a bugfix and minor enhancements release. All
users are urged to upgrade. It supports strong authentication based on the
Authenex A-Key hardware token (and other OATH-HOTP/RFC 4226 compliant
products). This provides a very low cost and convenient path to two-factor
authentication, not only for Web-based single sign-on and CGI programs, but
for virtually any software. No additional software is required to use the
Authenex token with DACS.

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: LambdaRogue is a rogue-like role playing game set in the future of
a somehow "parallel world" to our own. People had to go underground to
survive a war between human society and the once peaceful Drakh'Nar,
another species on the planet. People founded the NeoTerr nation and tried
to build up a prosperous civilization. This worked, until suddenly strange
creatures came down the Great River Styx. The river has now become a
source of fear and terror. The player has to follow the river through
NeoTerr and discover the reason. The atmosphere is rather strange,
influcenced by phantasy and cyberpunk.

[028] - Network PDF Server YAFPC-Appliance 1.05
  by Wolfgang Ullrich (http://freshmeat.net/users/ullrich/)
  Tue, Oct 3rd 2006 08:06

About: YAFPC-Appliance is a CD-ROM image based on KNOPPIX technology and
the PDF composer/printer/mailer YAFPC. Any PC booted from this CD can act
as a PDF print server and provide an unlimited number of network shared
virtual PDF printers. The system requirements are low. System
configuration can be done via a Web browser from any workstation in your
network. Virtual shared printers can be configured to apply letterheads,
watermarks, and appendices to all printed documents. After printing, a
document is sent to its owner by email, or can be accessed in a shared
folder on the server. Deployment is very simple.

Changes: When printing without letterheads, YAFPC-Appliance now takes care
of paper size and orientation page by page. Encryption settings were
enhanced with reader password, owner password, and all possible permission
settings for each printer. A file size limit for sending documents as email
attachments was introduced. A little bug was fixed where YAFPC-Appliance
wouldn't display finished jobs in the print queue any more.

About: SwiXAT is a Swing-based authoring tool for the quick and easy
development of GUI Java applications. It implements a true MVC framework
and uses XML to define the view (SwiXML is used as the XUL engine),
BeanShell as a scripting language for the controller, and JXPath as the
binding mechanism between the view and model. It provides a complete
environment in which it is possible to almost write an entire Java Swing
application without writing Java compiled code. The use of XPath makes it
very simple to traverse the object tree of the application's business
model.

Changes: This version adds improved support for JTable and JCheckBox
components. Support for docking panels has been added by integrating the
FlexDock framework. Support for Popup Menus was added. The possibility to
The Model can now be updated directly from the XML view by using simple
