Information Management
About: AgileWiki is a Java-based wiki that provides a virtual wiki for
each registered user, complete with access control, versioning,
hierarchical structures, namespace management, and semantic relations,
qualifiers, and inferencing. This is a rich system that is also easy for
casual users to browse or add content. Prototypes for this system also
included an email client and server-to-server content sharing.
Changes: The removeUser command has been fixed. This command allows a user
to remove another user from a user group for their virtual wiki. A new snap
utility has been added. This creates .wdbs files reflecting the state of
the database at the start of a given day. The first 3 chapters of the new
user guide are now online at agilewiki.org.

[004] - Another File Integrity Checker 2.9-1
by Gerbier Eric (http://freshmeat.net/users/gerbier/)
Wed, Oct 4th 2006 11:58
Security
System :: Systems Administration
About: afick is another file integrity checker, designed to be fast and
fully portable between Unix and Windows platforms. It works by first
creating a database that represents a snapshot of the most essential parts
of your computer system. You can then run the script to discover all
modifications made since the snapshot was taken (i.e. files added,
changed, or removed). The configuration syntax is very close to that of
aide or tripwire, and a graphical interface is provided.
Changes: An "archive" menu (interface to afick_archive tool) was added to
the graphical interface. Checksums are now skipped on empty files. A bug
in the multi-line exclude directive was fixed. A bug in exceptions with
globing and ignore_case was fixed. The Windows configuration file was
updated.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
About: Aqualung plays audio files with no gaps between adjacent tracks. It
supports high quality sample rate conversion between the file and the
output device. It supports almost all sample-based, uncompressed formats
(WAV, AIFF, AU, etc.) and files encoded with FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Speex,
MPEG Audio, MOD Audio (MOD, S3M, XM, IT, etc.), Musepack, and Monkey's
Audio Codec. It can play the music through OSS, ALSA, JACK, or the Win32
Sound API. It provides a Music Store that is an XML-based music database
capable of storing various metadata about music on your computer.
Changes: A Music Store builder was added for automatically building a
Music Store by scanning the files on disk. The MPEG decoder was enhanced
with robust file recognition, VBR and UBR file support, frame-accurate
seeking, and true gapless playback for tracks containing the appropriate
LAME headers.

by John Ogness (http://freshmeat.net/users/jogness/)
Wed, Oct 4th 2006 01:35

System :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels
About: Dazuko provides a device driver allowing 3rd-party (userland)
applications to execute file access control. It was originally developed
by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH to allow on-access virus scanning. Other uses
include a file-access monitor/logger or external security implementations.
It operates by intercepting file access calls and passing the file
information to a 3rd-party application. The 3rd-party application then has
the opportunity to tell the device driver to allow or deny the file access.
The 3rd-party application also receives information about the access event,
such as accessed file, type of access, process id, and user id.
Changes: Optional support has been added for syscall hooking with Linux
2.6. LSM remains the default method of event interception for Linux 2.6.

[030] - HOL-TestGen 1.2.0
by Achim D. Brucker (http://freshmeat.net/users/brucker/)
Wed, Oct 4th 2006 06:03
Software Development :: Testing
About: HOL-TestGen allows one to write test specifications in Higher-order
logics (HOL). It can (semi-) automatically partition the input space,
resulting in abstract test cases, and automatically select concrete test
data. Automatic generation of test harnesses (in SML) is supported, and
using a foreign language interface, implementations in arbitrary languages
(e.g. C) can be tested.
Changes: This release adds examples showing how HOL-TestGen can be used
for sequence generation. This is done using a newly-developed theory for
firewalls, and thus also gives some insights about testing firewall
configurations.

Changes: Support was added for help/usage messages, unparsed arguments,
and regular expression validation. Long arguments now use the "--" prefix,
and "-" prefixed arguments are short options. Support was added for
--option=value and multiple short option names (one option with many
aliases). Primitive type support was fixed, including adding support for

separating the headers from the body, retrieving a message in small chunks
to not exceed the available memory, and deleting messages.
Changes: The POP3 connection quit handshake is now forced by default,
since some servers may take too much time to figure that the client has
disconnected and keep the mailboxes locked. The missing stream wrapper
function to close the POP3 mailbox was added because that was preventing
access to the same mailbox more than once in the same script.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Widget Sets
About: Qt is a comprehensive, object-oriented development framework that
enables development of high-performance, cross-platform rich-client and
server-side applications. When you implement a program with Qt, you can
run it on the X Window System (Unix/X11), Apple Mac OS X, and Microsoft
Windows NT/9x/2000/XP by simply compiling the source code for the platform
you want. Qt is the basis for the KDE desktop environment, and is also used
in numerous commercial applications such as Google Earth, Skype for Linux,
and Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Changes: A new widget style system enables unrivaled control over
application look and feel with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The new
Graphics View enables the construction of high performance interactive
applications handling millions of 2D graphics objects. Qt/Mac look and
feel improvements were made and tighter integration with the GNOME desktop
environment was achieved.

Wed, Oct 4th 2006 01:09
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: QtiPlot is a clone of Origin for data analysis and scientific
plotting.
Changes: The 3D plotting capabilities were improved by adding the
possibility to use color map files, the choice between orthogonal and
perspective modes, and the possibility to animate the 3D plots. The
possibility to attach the grid and the 2D plot curves to different axes
was added. The oposite axes may now display different scales. Qwt was
upgraded to 5.0.0-rc0, which fixes misalignment between in and out ticks
in 2D plots. Bugs when drawing Spline curves were fixed. A VerticalSteps
plot style was added. When plotting a list of columns, if some columns are
declared as having yErr or xErr type, they are plotted as error bars.

[065] - Quicksilver Forums 1.3.1
by Quicken (http://freshmeat.net/users/quicken/)
Wed, Oct 4th 2006 04:47
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards
About: Quicksilver Forums is a fast, feature rich bulletin board system.
It is fully object oriented and optimized for speed, ease of use, and easy
modification. It checks all inputs though a common interface, which
drastically reduces the chances of exploitable bugs. A powerful and
flexible skinning engine makes giving your board a new look very simple.
An advanced permissions system allows for fine-grained group and user
permissions. It is based on the popular MercuryBoard software.
Changes: Most languages now use UTF-8. This could cause some "corruption"
of existing posts that use non-English characters. Unfortunately, this
change is necessary for the Javascript tricks that are being added.
Language updates have been made for Swedish, Norwegian, and German. A new
backup tool uses XML and is far less likely to run out of memory.

[068] - rsyslog 1.12.3 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Wed, Oct 4th 2006 05:17
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), and the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message. It is designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and
thus able to work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some
enhanced features require changing the config file, but in general, this
should be fairly easy.
Changes: This release adds improvements to the property replacer, better
support for Fedora, incomplete support for Solaris, documentation for
known packager locations, and bugfixes.

Wed, Oct 4th 2006 23:53
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
About: SchemaSpy is a Java-based tool that analyzes the metadata of a
schema in a database and generates a visual representation of it in a
browser-displayable format. It lets you click through the hierarchy of
database tables via child and parent table relationships. Browsing through
relationships can occur though HTML links and/or though the graphical
representation of the relationships. It's also designed to help resolve
the obtuse errors that a database sometimes gives related to failures due
to constraints.
Changes: The Columns page is now sortable by column, table, type, size,
nullability, auto increment, default value, children, or parents. A new
option (-desc) was added to provide a description of the schema that is
displayed on the non-detail pages. The -notablecomments option was added
for databases like MySQL that stuff unrelated data where comments belong.
Many bugs were fixed, including support for Oracle 10g's recycle bin.
