Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

leadership? Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or
HP value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe
it's the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

  by Jan Cumps (http://freshmeat.net/users/jancumps/)
  Mon, Oct 30th 2006 21:58

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: The AppsUnit toolkit assists with the testing of your Oracle
e-business suite code. It tests views, PL/SQL packages, concurrent
requests, and more. No software needs to be installed on the application
server. Results are made available as a PDF report.

Changes: The example test kit is available for download. The suite uses
some of the apps foundation views as an example. These views are unit
tested, and the results are available as HTML and PDF reports.

  by Bjørn Hansen (http://freshmeat.net/users/holomorph/)
  Mon, Oct 30th 2006 23:39

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: In Balder2D, players control small probes that shoot tiny
projectiles with which they try to destroy each other. It features a 2D
overhead view of the playing field. Probes may be human or computer
controlled. A probe can perform the following actions: rotate, fire
projectiles, "stick" to a wall, and push off of a wall. Players may rotate
their probes while in flight, but the only way to change the direction or
speed of flight is by firing projectiles, which gives a small kick in the
opposite direction, or by running into walls or other probes.

Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: Bist stands for "bidimensional structures" and is a chemical
drawing tool. It is focused on organic chemistry, but it may be useful for
chemists or teachers as well. Bist support many of the formalisms used to
describe molecular structures like single bond, double bond,
stereospecific bond, charges, resonance arrows, lone pairs, and so on. It
can export both PostScript and PNG formats.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that prevented "paste" and plugin
loading from working properly.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features
include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs,
and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW,
DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools
includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD
writers.

Changes: mkisofs -T and mkisofs -b boot_file now work correctly. Deep
directory abortion now happens from the right place. Mkisofs will now
correctly ignore deep directory nesting in no Rock Ridge mode with mkisofs
-find. mkisofs -find dir will now correctly deal with Rock Ridge deep
directory relocation. Symlinks now work in mkisofs -find mode too. Graft
dirs now work even if they cause Rock Ridge deep directory relocation.
Cdda2wav now also implements a ts= option to help work around a Linux USB
showstopper bug. Cdrecord's DVD/DL manual layer break code now deals with
GCC better.

Information Management :: Records Management

About: CitrusDB is a Web based customer care and billing solution that
uses PHP and a database backend to keep track of customer information,
operational CRM, services, products, billing invoices and credit cards,
and support information.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that caused payments to show the whole
amount and not just the amount applied to the account. It adds a feature
that allows you to specify default notes for invoices, and fixes an issue
with the configuration file that may cause login not to work.

[006] - Clam AntiVirus 0.90rc2 (Development)
  by Luca Gibelli (http://freshmeat.net/users/nervous/)
  Mon, Oct 30th 2006 14:26

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Security
Utilities

About: Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose
of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment
scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded
daemon, a commandline scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the
Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.

Changes: The 0.9x series introduces many improvements in terms of
detection rate and performance, like support for many new packers and
decryptors, RAR3 and SIS archives, and a new phishing signature format
that proves to be very effective. To cope with the increasing size of the
database and with the high frequency of new CVD releases, freshclam now
supports scripted updates. The new experimental code can be tested by
using "./configure --enable-experimental" at compile time. The email
decoding has been improved to reduce both the memory requirements and the
time taken to process attachments.

[007] - Cobex 0.2.13
  by sorn73 (http://freshmeat.net/users/sorn73/)
  Mon, Oct 30th 2006 10:48

Communications :: Telephony

About: Cobex is a small implementation of the OBEX communication protocol
for slow serial cables. Its primary use is to communicate with cell phones
such as the Sony Ericsson T300, T310, T610, K700i, K750i, K508i, K300i, and
J300i.

Changes: This release handles cases where characters are not convertible
to the destination locale while listing files. cobex_put also handles
national characters properly. There was a bug where recursepath/setpath
did not fail on a Not Found, and files ended up in the last setPath that
was OK, or in the Inbox. This has been fixed.

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Dar is a shell command that makes backup of a directory tree and
files. Its features include splitting archives over several files, CDs,
ZIPs, or floppies, compression, full or differential backups, strong

commands between slices, encrypt archives, and quickly retrieve individual
files from differential and full backups. Dar also has external GUI like
kdar for Linux, thanks to the well documented API.

Changes: This release includes a documentation update and some minor
bugfixes: the handling of regular expressions has been reviewed, a problem
with installation of localized files has been fixed, and a bug met when
only restoring more recent files has been fixed.

[013] - DRBL 1.7.6-17 (Testing)
  by Steven (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevenshiau/)
  Mon, Oct 30th 2006 08:54

About: Diskless Remote Boot in Linux (DRBL) provides a diskless or
systemless environment for client machines. It works on Debian, Mandriva,
Red Hat, Fedora, and SuSE. Unlike LTSP, it uses distributed hardware
resources and makes it possible for clients to fully access local
hardware. It also includes Clonezilla, a partitioning and disk cloning
utility similar to Symantec Ghost.

Changes: A clonezilla image directory can now be assigned when running
drblpush (default is /home/partimag). The rsize and wsize were increased
to 65536 (from 8192) for NFS client parameters. If you want to change this
size to 8192, you can run "/opt/drbl/sbin/drbl-nfs-conf -s 8192". "add" and
"del" options were added for drbl-all-service, so now DRBL-related services
in the server can be added or deleted. If /opt/drbl/conf/client-local-fstab
exists, the fstab will be appended to all clients' /etc/fstab. Some minor
bugs were fixed.

Changes: This release adds DateTimeOrig field to the main interface, a
popup viewer for all exif tags, and an open dialog to select a directory
of images to process (instead of taking them as ARGV). It will not crash
if no images are passed on the command line. Paths have been changed such
that installation into /usr/local should work correctly.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
System :: Filesystems

About: fdmsfs is a FUSE filesystem which can read fostex FDMS-3 volumes.
When mounted, the songs (programs) appear as directories and the tracks
appear as WAVE files within those directories. This allows songs to be
played or mixed-down directly off the disk (e.g. using Audacity).
Development was done using an FD-4 image, but it should work for the FD-8,
and probably other FDMS-3 devices (e.g. VF160).

Text Processing

About: GDC is a utility to calculate compressible flow (Gas Dynamics
Calculator). It provides calculations for isentropic nozzle, isothermal
nozzle, isothermal, Fanno, Rayleigh flow, etc. It also provide
calculations for shock and oblique shock by direct calculations (no
iteration, probably the only one that can do it). GDC also calculates
shock dynamics, i.e gas running into a different medium with different
speed. The result are in plain text, LaTeX, or a range of values.

Changes: The LaTeX output has been changed so that one source can produce
online and hard copies at the same time (via html.sty) to accommodate the
online version of the book (check gas dynamics tables produced by one
source). The long tables have been fixed for shock, P-M Function, etc. The
ability to calculate the shock based on shock velocity has been added. Some
parts of the compressible flow class have been cleaned up.

the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the
thresholds functionality includes emails and user defined scripts.
Monitored data can be archived in an SQL database by both the GUI and the
companion daemon, so that complete history over time can be made available
from Web pages or common spreadsheet software. It can even be used for
future behavior prediction or capacity planning, from the included
predictor tool, based on powerful statistical methods and artificial
neural networks.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Utilities

About: SendEmail is a lightweight, completely command line-based SMTP
email delivery program. If you have the need to send email from a command
prompt this tool is perfect. It was designed to be used in bash scripts,
Perl programs, and Web sites, but it is also quite useful in many other
contexts. It is written in Perl, and is unique in that it requires no
special modules, and supports any platform that runs Perl. It has a
straightforward interface, making it very easy to use.

Changes: TLS support is now included. To enable it, simply install the
Perl Net::SSleay and IO::Socket::SSL modules. The "-o message-header"
option may now be used more than once, and may now be used to override
automatically generated email headers. Authentication code now supports
the SASL PLAIN mechanism. An annoying bug that made some MUAs believe
there was always an attachment when there wasn't has been fixed. A new
base64_encode() function fixes a bug that was causing certain
usernames/passwords used with -xu and -xp to not work properly.

  Mon, Oct 30th 2006 04:45

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: Sendmail Sender Address Validator is a lightweight, fast, and
reliable Sendmail milter that implements a real-time Sender email Address
Verification technology. This can stop some kinds of spam with a spoofed
sender's email address. It also implements real-time Recipient email
Address Verification, which can be useful if your machine is a backup MX
for the recipient's domains, or if your machine forwards all email
messages as a relay host for your domains to another internal or external
email servers. It is a light alternative for the spamilter, milter-sender,
and milter-ahead milters.

Changes: Whitelisting by a PTR (reverse DNS) record was implemented.
Whitelisting by an envelope recipient email address was implemented. The
option to ignore tempfailed results of SAV was implemented. The option to
refuse email messages from systems that don't accept the null reverse-path
<> was implemented. Tempfail and fail results TTL settings were segregated.
Progressive slowdown of brute force attacks on a recipient's email address
was implemented.

  Mon, Oct 30th 2006 04:37

System :: Operating System
System :: Software Distribution

About: T2 is a system development environment. It provides a
self-contained distribution build kit based on sources with an up-to-date
tool and development toolchain (gcc, glibc, uclibc, dietlibc, X.org, KDE,
GNOME, etc.). Its basis is an automatic build system that makes it
possible to either update a running system or create a binary distribution
that can later be deployed via network or physical media. The system is
extremely versatile and makes it possible to create sets of programs for
different kinds of systems, from routers to desktops, including different
architectures and platforms.

Changes: This release includes fixes for the build environment where
relative filenames could potentially be resolved incorrectly and relative
paths hitting the filesystem root (/) could crash the sandbox file
tracker. The GRUB setup module was fixed so that it does not compute a
wrong BIOS device number for installation on non-primary hard disks. The
live CD creation scripts were fixed to involve fewer hardcoded presets.
Glitz was updated to allow building the kdrive xserver package. Over 100
other corrections have been incorporated. Linux was updated to 2.6.17.14
